May i be informed when the meeting was held and motion passed that should any player win a B and F they they suddenly have immunity from any reasonable critique, good or bad ? I missed the memo on that one Do we then take it that Moloney has reached his pinacle ? that we cant reasonably expect that he ( let alone us ) would want to improve his game ? Would he have been satisifed with 2011 ?? should anyone be ? It does very much go to the notion as suggested by RPFC that if we accept what is ( or was ) then we have no call on expecting anything different. Iftheres to be no different then they might as well all pack up and go home. Interestly the Olympic motto is Citius, Altius, Fortius , which is Latin for "Faster, Higher, Stronger". I cant see anywhere where they suggest... "Stop, done enough" Why ought it be any different for our game and its players.

Brad Green speaks on losing leadership role
beelzebub replied to TonyMelb's topic in Melbourne Demons
I can understand some sentiments that suggest its a drop or twoof kharma with repsect to some of his dealings in the past with the club.I understand them but dont particularly think its the case. There are a number of players past and present whose behavious at those times has been , well, curious. I suspect though that Greens new place in the order of things is entirely as a result of how the Master wishes tocast his team and in that light history shows Brad to have been very miscast as a Captain.its just not his forte I believe. Relieved of this duty I m quite certain ( in my own mind ) that Green will re-blossom into the die hard classy player he has been. 2011 is a write off not only for Greenbut many of his mates. Id be thinking the FD will view Brad and others on a year in year out basis in regards to longevity. At his end of the journey any faltering will only provide an opportunity for another ( younger ) and theres no coming back often after that. Ive personally really liked his time playing on the wing ( when he did ) but I think hes being penciled in for a forward type role, most likely as a flanker. That too will suit his demeanor and ability to use space. Good luck Brad -
Davis will be 22 this year

Giants name their 3 Co Captains.. guess who wasnt one of them !!! even this lot knows you cant have a Squib as a captain !!

I think a degree of mythology is sneaking into the whole debate.. As is often the case where you have a team that perenially underperforms or lacks the taste of real success that the whole sclae of adornment gets re-standardised in order to accomodate any one(s) that show anything. Moloney is a classic case in point. He might well get a game any any one of 12 of the other Teams but he certainly wouldnt have featured in many of the better teams B and F polling. Its just that against other Melbourne players he looked far better.. In the end the Bluey is a club award and only ajudged within club ranks. Does this mean one way or the other , that beamer can opr cant play very good football ? it all but becomes moot as he CAN.But its not a super skilled game unlike say Judd ( as many have used him as the comparison ) . Beamer can and often does put in a very good workmanlike and gutsy performance. What lets him down is probably the lack of consitency and that he seems unable to lift above the heavier attention that better competiion will give him. As others have already alluded to Neeld doesnt rate him for any leadership. Thats kinda odd in a fashion.. the B & F player of 2011 isnt given a gig amongst the leaders ?? How is this possible ? Its possible , and indeed needed for the very reasons I started this post about. Its where that sliding scale of impression sits.. Supporters will often fudge and reinvent reality to suit their cause. Neeld does not and indeed should not do so. He only needs pure and simple reality. Im not about to acuse him ( BM) of being the flat track runner (bully ) some are but you have ask why he can play decently some days and gets nullified others. if youre geting done and your possesion count is dropping then the reverse ought to be happening to your tackle count etc This is an area it seems Neeld is adressing, making players ( team ) very accountable for where and who has the ball. Football isnt that sophisticated really. if youhave the ball do something positive and creative with it. If you dont have it, get it, and stop the opposition of being positive in the meantime. For far too long the Demons have played half a game of footy, looking good with it, looking comical and or lethargic without. Moloney isnt alone, he has mates that will also have to reduce if not reverse the discrepencies between the good games and bad. When the going got tough at Melbourne in years past....some just were gone. I expect a far better effort by us this year and i would hope Brent can take the next step

Succintly put.

it goes without saying...better ( winning) teams obviously had better players in tehir midfileds. These provided greater competition and accountability to any opposition ( including us ). Beamer , god bless his little heart , has a tendency to take onb all comers, he mightily stands his ground and grimly we he give up the ball before time. Here , in this , does he come unstuck against the better teams. Last year he tempered this and modified his game somewhat resulting in a much better result .. He still needs to take a step up otherwise tehresults might be similar. he needs to adapt his game to the better sides. itll be interesting
-
Against what??? Wasnt like he had any real opposition. I see two things happening in 2012, Lil Tommy will struggle against bigger harder opposition and 2 some mystery ailment will prevent him from fronting against us.

totally lost onmany. The minute you ask anyone to be accountable (player wise ) its verging onheresy. its this soft soft indifference toreality that has caused much of the mailaise this club has endured for more years than many of us would care to remember. No one here suggest Beamers isnt a dyed intehwool demon. , nor that he doesnt bleed red and blue and any of another half dozen euthemisms we can trot out. But if we are dead set honest about appraisal and where this club is..or was. Consider that that same Brent Moloney , stalwart of the team etc etc, is the same that gathered the stats that BRFE highlights and that the same BM won our Best and Fairest...Thats not just sobering...thats a damning indictment of why we havent achieved much of late. Brent and all his mates need to lift and do so demonstrably and emphatically. I actually for one think Beamers getting better and more rounded as a player. For too may seasons he was a blinkered one dimensional player. Last season he showed us he has a bit of vision and can vary his play. Thats good. Now he needs to put it all together. I think he just might. Hes nuggetly determined and can play. As RPFC suggest we arent having a go...we just wanting these players to play to their obvious ability..and do so for the requisite 100 mins per game. Simnple isnt it

The Flanagan article is great. A trait of Martin's writings is he does gravitate to the emotional core of things and he does this again and by way of such alligns with Moloney as would be warranrted under such an appraisal. Luckily Neeld is looking at this club , in terms of effectiveness, devoid of emotion. His assessments are clinical almost the opposite of how many view players. Curiously Neeld elects to not only to overlook Moloney as a Captain but doenst have him in theLG at all. In miltary terms Beamer would make a great and effective NCO...but hes never the one to really take charge of group as that needs an extra dimension and thats just not Beamers forte.....blood and guts, over the hill , here we come, yes. But see the bigger picture and effect game winning changes in the charges beneath him...I dont think so. This is where the likes of Trengove or grimes will assume their role,in time. The vison and ability is just broader.

Ahh Grasshopper.... “Success depends upon previous preparation, and without such preparation there is sure to be failure.” We will not fail in our endeavor as we have sought to prepare its path well

Collingwood annoyed at Neelds early departure

Collingwood.........awwwwwwwwwwww poor diddums !!!! -
A bit of revisionist history eh Mr Anderson ? There is nothing new or earth shattering in any of this, its purely the spin that the AFL now need to give it in order to set it up to suit whatever lop sided changes it needs to make ( in its view) to continue their little experiments in wonderland. Bullsh!t factor ......10+

Leadership group announced; Grimes and Trengove co-captains
beelzebub replied to Striker475's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well...am still not a fan at allof Co-Captains but hearty congratualtions to both. Both are well deserving candidates for the role even if I have some misgivings about Grimes ability to stay on the paddock ( I surely hope he can ) Go Dees -
If you are looking at bang for bucks youhave to look at your market and determine where the growth i.e profits will come from. Many ould be surprised to know Victoria stil is the strength of the nation. Growth whether capital or population is still with Melbourne ahead of some other areas. Were not streets ahead but we are still growing as an economy better than other states all but WA ( who leads everyone just about ) purely on the basis of the mining industry.. A Chinese newby ( to Oz ) would in all likelyhood never put all eggs in one basket. Some money will go tosome form of Rugger but not necessarily to a club, it might be a code sponsor etc.. In AFL such funds will only get oyu a primary spot on a single club's guernsey. The Chinese companies are no mugs they will most probably decide on one major sponsorship and a smattering of smaller ones as brand reinforcement . One to lead the charge, others to back it up. it all comes down to, which brand wants to break out on its own as opposed to a life as OEM. This is where Smasung and LG were many years ago. Unknown here but huge in their own industrial backyards. The Chinese will take note of who has put in the effort (if any ) Has there been any determined efforts by any clubs in other codes ( that we know of ) to develop a relatonship with the big red lion ? My understanding of the Sino way is theyll seek some form of vehicle (entity for their advertising ) which has a track record and stability. Theres is a slow and steady wins the race type attitude. We arent putting time and resources into China for nothing. It will all come to fruition...just not overnight. They ( Chinese ) take the timing of things very seriously and symbolism carries much currency too. It will be interesting.

On behalf of one R Flower I would have run through and over Dipper with the greatest of pleasure. Im only a bit over a 100 kg and i might have bounced a litle but that would have been a pleasure !! lol As to the Scully thing.. it doesnt actually surprise me. I dont think hes quite got the ticker ( real ticker) hes made out to have .. Playing kiddie ball is vastly different to mano a mano . That certainly wouldnt have impressed the Martian Man ..... he hates a squibber. A big black mark would have gone down next to T.S. Kharma !!!

Narrowing in on either Grimes or Trengove for Captain
beelzebub replied to mdemonski2's topic in Melbourne Demons
And yet everyone (all but) seasoned media, footy observers and many supporters with more than a passing idea have suggested Trengove as the natural selection. Whilst its not our job to pick alot of indicators would suggest there IS a Captain in waiting. -
Be bloody right... the only day I drive past Casey on a monday and theyre back in town..lol Theres been some marvellous reporting here so Ill just wait appreciateively for another .

Narrowing in on either Grimes or Trengove for Captain
beelzebub replied to mdemonski2's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not a fan of this Co-Captains idea. Nota at all. Pick someone and mentor and support them. Anything else is a dilution of the position all but rendering it moot. A leadership group is fine.. has a purpose. So does captaincy..that is one head to captain and instruct.. What ever will be will be ...but im not convinced this ever works. -
