Cloke and Collingwood - to part or not to part?

You may well have something there about the smoke and mirris bit. if I were Melbourne Id be agreeing in a way to any rumour without actually validating it, just to keep people bamboozled whilst you quietly go after whomever you wish. Im not sure wed actually be targetting any Maggie Mids though. -
exactly what ive been saying also. Put the money in the middle. Other areas are evolving ok but we need a quality engine to drive this car.

Cloke and Collingwood - to part or not to part?

No man is an island . Consider why cloke has decent stats. Surround our forwards, esp Clark with such support and hed present similar results id suggest. Spend the money in the midfield for mine. -
Garland a forward, Watts a backman and Grimes a midfielder?

Ok...heres a thought.... Why does ANY player only get to be this that or the other. . Think about the trumps you hold when you have half a dozen players you canmix and match according to the opposition or even the nature of the days fortunes. I get the feeling not only is Neeld trying to develop players beyond limitations hes providing himself with a smrgasbord of options on any game day. Hes trylu thinking TEAM and not just positions. The machine as a total, not as parts !! just a thought. -
The notion of the 'intercept' is not tobe weighed too lightly. Its a game changer. It swings the momentun on its own axis . Turns all those involved on their stride ( sts) It just doesnt negate an offence it swings it around. If you have fast canny mids torun it or decnt mitts down field to mark the resultant incoming you can coast to coast. The turnaround coast to coast is perhaps the hardest piece of footy to counter as most players are out of position or off guard and in total reaction mode and possibly not where their own defensive structure suggests they be. Isnt it funny how so many have 'suddenly' seen Jack. ....as if hes beeen hiding all this time

Cloke and Collingwood - to part or not to part?

Clark, Howe, and Garland.. Throw in Cook and Jurrah ( who knows ) and im not sure where any need is for someone like Cloke, really, i dont. Theres half a dozen blokes who can easily slot'em on their day . Again..the problems not the sharp end, this will become quite potent, once its fed well. -
Im a bit Johnny come late to this... been o/s. Not going to try to read all threads etc but whilst I dont mind the notion that Jack is better id rather just quietly closet it than broadcast it..lol Two rather different players I would think though. But still agree we might well have the better of the two. For mine it comes down to dimensionality. Theres more strings to Watt's bow that Hurley's. . Watts may well end up our best forward playing in defence. its curious the nmentions of whether one end of the ground is better or easier to play than the other. Theyre different. I really only ever played up the pointy end but had some time rucking ( hated it..lol ) but you have to understand the back mans mindset in order to play forward well ( imho ) Hes trying to outsmart you and you have to doubly outsmart him. Then again my era was quite different and this is where I feel JW could well find his own. Typically a backmans role is /was to negatre a forwards. i.e to deny, frustrate, to rebound. A really good defender can and does start a teams offence and does it from whatever opportunities come his way. Really valuable defenders looktoget things rolling and as its happens the previously mention Harry O is very good at this (Id have him in a flash ). The defender that can keep his feet, keep his poise and use the ball have always been the unsung heroes in many teams. Coaches dont undervalue them though.. I like Jack...hes a thinker. I sense hes just found his place...and just starting to grow it. Hes fast, he looks lethargic at times but its more often an illusion. Does Usain look like hes running fast ? not to me but he leaves others in his dust. How dangerous a fast mobile athletiuc defender who can easily cruise forward in play and kick between sticks !! Todays defender needs to be aware of what is the next play even whilst hes trying to stop his direct opponent. if hes really lucky the defender will have his opponnent more worried about him than the other way around and in so has won the first battle.... that of the minds . Thats a major win considering 99% of footy is between the ears.

Cloke and Collingwood - to part or not to part?

I wonder if the old phrase referring to Mutton and Lamb rings anyones bells currently ? Cloke is good...but hes not marvellous and certainly not worth the silly money being proffered by some. Good luck to Travis and Dad for extracting what they can, just hopefully not from us Let Cloke do a Buddy and then hed be worth a monty. Our problem ISNT that we have no one to kick goals, its that we dont have a purring midfiled to drive our game. Lets fix the right problem ...huh -
No wonder Mike gave it away as full time gig. Hes gone all senile on us. Poor old bugger!!! What a load of old blacmange...... Really !!!

I dont Quite get what ppl want from Cam and Don. This is about the footy not the clubs fiscal wellbeing. They have nothing really at present to do with how woeful most of the players are performing. So many barking up the wrong tree.esp media idiots like Walls.
-
I dont really care what we would get for him now. He is using up cap space and forgoing the chance of someone else developing. Id practically give him away, with the same contempt he has shown us. Lance this boil !
-
I dont think that will EVER eventuate. Hes a waste of club resources and patience .should had traded him ages ago. No W maybe some will finally listen.
-
Much better. Also given sizing restrictions you are now able to actually have larger (easier to read) logo as its now not on a backing area. Thats a win win for mine
-
youre probably confusing me with someone who actually cares what a Cloke thinks !!This is is just sport...aka....lets stuff up a Maggies day !! Im not actually fussed about all this ..."wouldnt play for the Dees" stuff. Some will...and they will make the team better for it.
-
thats my leaning also. I cant see the Maggies letting him go, nor would he probably want to.. he gets a free ride to Millionairesville. Good luck to him. Butit doesnt hurt to prod and pester a little...us being the niggler for a change... This is fun lol
-
it is indeed.. unpalatable, but legitimate.Would much prefer he gets to walk.

Im quite happy for another club to pay a million for Cloke. Chews up their cap. Important sure the club knows wholly theyll target and be contentt to grab all the whiles playing their own game of cat and mouse . Cloke might be handy....but 1m ?.Personally important also for grabbing a quality ball mover to team Viney .

Just an aside...as an example of the 'popular'view.. gold Fm.. they have this quiz.. Lads v Gals.. its was quiped that the Boys were getting done...and that they didnt want to be the' Melbourne' of this game.. i.e LOSERS !!!!!!!!!!! peopel...you canslice and dice it any way you like but thats how the world looks upon us right now.. As a very underperforming, disappointing, pitiful excuse of a Footy Team. There is NO respect for Melbourne. As some quip ( often, lamentably ) the only way is up... Well youd think so... but you can also go sideways and that seems to be our path for a long time now. sideways. Demons ?? more like Crabs !! I do share RPFC ideal that 2013 will be far better, that real improvement is on theway. But before that happens there will be more dimantling and more pain and more purging. There is still toxicity amongst the playing clan. However a huge order of Cleansing Poultice in on its way come seasons end. Why is it I cant wait for the footy to start...then cant wait for it to be over !!! sigh
-
This is how I see it.. We have a "Open for Business" light on.I also see it as putting a few lazy bums on notice that we're serious about moving forward and Players either have the choice of participating and contributing to this or becoming collateral damage inthe progress. All good to me.
-
yep...youd think , if not setting the world on fire , that at least youd see a bright flame of sorts. Seems just another pedestrian nqr in a Melblurne jumper for mine. i.e he can play football but weneed more than that. Hes not alone though by a long shot. Totally agree , after 50 games there ought to be some real indication of whats about to happen

Keep in mind...we WERE soft !!!

ahhh its all a game...within games. How much fun it is to set cats among pidgeons, to turn hunters into hunted and upset applecarts We knwo ourselves how unsettling talk/rumour/inuendo etc can be to a club. So lets turn the torch on someone for a change. I have no doubt Melbourne is seriously interested in Cloke. I imagine well be known to have been seriously intererted in a dozen players before the trade week's come to an end. And we will have picked up and traded a few for sure. We HAVE to. But theres also much value in niggling others. We ( the MFC ) needs to poke a few nests and see what might shake loose. In some ways announcing our intentions may serve as a catalyst for other possiblilities. Again...its all a game...A game Ill enjoy. After all the real one isnt much chop at present
