  1. maclure called it 'pathetic' on the ninefax realfooty podcast

would love to share this with him but alas he doesn't accept feedback on any social media platforms:

No ones crowd is a reflective of its membership (except GC, see below).

2023 average H&A crowd vs final membership totals, pies had 106k members, averaged 60k at games or 57%.

Tigers had 101k members who thought they were still good, 49k still committed enough to turn up or 43% - I’d expect they’ll get around 92k members this year as those bandwagoners realise its another rebuild.

We got 56% of our member number to games on average at 39k of 70k, slightly above the overall average of 53%, so we bat above.

Suns are an outlier as they got 82% at 19k ave crowd vs 23k members but that’s just cos their membership is so low, get 5k oppo fans to a game and you’re laughing.

Our crowds are fine, it’s bias and [censored] from the media and oppo fans that we don’t turn up (and it’s not much better when our own club talks us down as fans).

FWIW there's a weekly thread on BigFooty where posters of all persuasions can offer their predicted results and crowd figures. After seeing this thread I went for a look to see what the great unwashed were anticipating. Aside from a couple of outliers, everyone was pretty close to the actual attendance.

The footy media give me the irrits and the simpering twit that is Sam McLure annoys me more than most. The whole lot are best ignored.

On the bright side, Matty Hill is calling footy games and Tom Browne is nowhere to be seen. A rare nett positive

could you share the link pls? would be curious to see what people's expectations were

No....they are being built for concerts i.e. like Baseball stadia because we are continually trying to be American

and this is where they're completely delusional

big tours that can fill baseball stadiums - the likes of taylor swift, pink, fredagain etc. - play primarily in melbourne and sydney, not even brisbane, let alone perth or adelaide - they're never going to play in tasmania

when even fairly large acts like queens of the stone age play in tassie they're headlining tiny venues compared to what they can do in melbs or syds cos, well, hobart simply doesn't have the population to support tours by international acts

How good is it to be super confident a player will hit a target by foot, or failing that at least not butcher it straight to an oppo player.

he had one shank in the last that was a direct turnover and it stood out like a beacon such was its unusual nature

    good user

Thoughts on our use of the wings? Langdon appears to be back to his best with gut run and link. Something new I was us splitting our offensive wing between Windsor from HB to center, and then billings from center to HF. The conditions and game plan suited Billings strengths to a tee.

not sure i entirely believe these graphics as the amount of times on the afl members wing i saw langdon pass to billings was a delight

  6. i didn't see anyone slagging off the crowd but i'm going to presume it was sam maclure, again?

i was thinking the crowd would be ~40k so ~45k was slightly above my expectation

footscray don't draw crowds at the mcg; they barely draw crowds at their own dungheap at docklands

The players were all over the idea of gather round. I didn’t hear any pushback or bargaining from them.

If they go to 24 home and away games the aflpa should just fold.

because they got paid for it

the afl season starting in the first week of march is just absurd

somebody is getting paid. i thought perhaps the goal umps are on a commission. some of the reviews today were pointless.

the most egregious one was yesterday at taxpayer park, where the ball hit the post and went at right angles and the goal maggot STILL called for a review

I still can’t believe we had to play them down there last year after they won the 22 premiership and we’d won the 21 premiership. A potential blockbuster game player at a stadium under construction. Tells you everything you need to know about those who run the AFL

and to not have to go there this year we had to accept a pretty crummy fixture of short breaks between games

the worst thing that happened to our club was being perennially poor on field during the dawn of the tv era

Saints have lost their last 12 matches at Geelong’s home ground.

Glad we finally got passed over to play down there this year.

    Did the filth?

    Probably not .

as if the filth would go down there

edit: last three times the puddy tatts hosted the filth was in 1999, then 95, and before that 91

richmond are furious that they've been scheduled down there this year for the first time in seven years

before that they'd not been there for half a decade before that

it's only the minnow melbourne clubs - us, footscray, aints, north - who get shunted down the highway on a regular basis

How can the cats have a 21 yo Dempsey taking marks & kicking 3 goals, something is a miss at our club the inability to find forwards

you don't rate fritsch? petty? pickett? van rooyen?

how about premiership forwards ben brown and tom mcdonald?

we can find em, they just tend to break when we play em

Never heard this reported at the time…I thought he wanted a fresh start in a non football state?

he had a meeting with mahoney and the football dept

the rumour mill has it that they asked him if he was prepared to give up the grog, and he said no

hence we landed sideshow bob and won a premiership instead

Yes. I ticked thst box, and had one last year.

But despite auto renewing have not received anything from the club- no card, no letter confirming payment, no email. Nada. Zip.

afl member here - have ticked the box multiple times but it's failed to materialise

    3 ACLs in 5 games.

AFL scheduling 5 day turnarounds and four games in humid conditions on slippery grounds.

    Nothing to see here.

season has started a month too early

won't somebody think about the ConTeNt?!??
