Conveniently after Suns have filled the treasure chest with multiple academy players; Lions with multiple F/S in the top 20.

It is definitely needed. The simple rule of having a pick in the round where the nomination is made avoids a club getting away with a stack of talent (ala Suns). That was an absolute steal for them last year.

not to mention having to have enough list spaces to use with the amount of picks that you have

when gc17 have 7 picks and only 3 list spaces, with 3 first-round academy picks to come in that they can conveniently cover with the 'value' of their plethora of 2nd and 3rd round picks, it's an absolute farce

Kanes had the perfect opportunity to take Christian threatened to resign over the Maynard debacle last year.

I can only assume the boys club stepped in.

Any boss in any organisation would normally take that tantrum and show him the door.

    Disgraceful

don't forget, laura kane IS part of the boy's club

He misses quite often later in matches.  Seems to start off ok.

Might be (one reason) why he's sitting on the bench or not in the starting 22 as often this season?

daniel's disposal efficiency and defensive workrate have plummeted in the last couple of years from his best seasons

it will be interesting to see where he sits going forward in the make-up of the dogs' side

How can a club extend a players contract if he was under an extensive concussion measurement program?

Murphy had 1 year to run extend out to 3 years. Knowing he wouldn't play again would love to know what sort of a pay rise they gave him to strengthen their bargaining power for a comp pick.

Very negligent of Collingwood and the AFL for allowing this to happen effectively ticking off on it to futher their case for compensation.

Very suspicious activity allowed to happen and the AFL and turned a blind eye to it all.

    compensation?

no club gets compensation when a player is forced to retire

  5. so it turns out the filth did give murphy a new deal at the start of this year to last til the end of 2025

in the little paper jon ralph is saying:

They will honour that deal, but given the AFL has indicated it will set a precedent over Angus Brayshaw’s long-term contract it will not cost them in the salary cap.

The Pies and Demons will be able to exempt all or most of the salaries of those players going forward so Murphy’s retirement will in fact clear cap space for the Pies going forward.

Oh the wailing media today makes me ill. We all feel sorry for Murphy but I don’t remember this level of angst when Gus was knocked out of his career

every media organisation talked about it for days

and eulogised him as a great player

we sure as hell miss him

  7. it was particularly funny, i thought, that the afl trade radio social post - which apparently is too big an image for me to share here? - asked where he'd be playing in 2024

i'mma take a wild stab in the dark and say...at gold coast?

    now, 2025, however...

I'm sure he'd love the aints as well. How can any Queenslander not love Sir Ed Kuepper

Their last album a few years ago was fantastic

oh i hadn't even thought of them! i meant st. kilda as opposed to (the) saints or the aints

stafford is a good music writer

I used to know an Andrew Stafford as a teenager. Was a big music fan.

How old is this Andrew Stafford?

Scratch that. Just read the info at the link. Different dude.

Nah it’s the same dude isn’t it?

    Queensland based journo

Loves his (the) saints in particular, as opposed to the aints

Don’t disagree about us. Just noting there’s a stack of clubs outside of us and last year’s grand finalists who appear legit this year.

    definitely

other than the three stragglers down the bottom, it's a very even competition

so much is reliant upon good luck with injury and being in good form when it counts

Right now it feels like GWS, Port, Fremantle, Carlton and Geelong are all legitimate flag contenders.

For whatever reason, IMO the jury's still out on Sydney. I can't shake their fortnight of a loss to Richmond then trailing West Coast for a half. But you can probably add them to the list.

That's six sides before you get to Brisbane, Collingwood or us.

It's a pretty strong year at the top, IMO.

It doesn't help us that we have each of Brisbane, Collingwood, Port and Fremantle twice each.

we're just as much in contention as that top 6 you mentioned

i've have flagmantle out of that group and us in; they keep dropping close ones

I’m not sure. Nathan told yesterday. Maybe a ‘farewell’ session. Craig Kelly phoned Nathan immediately and offered him a position at the club. Nathan also in line for a large payout (from the Players’ fund?).

I assume Gus also in line for a similar payment, albeit small consolation.

    terrible news all around

that hit on sam taylor today and the length of time he was unconscious - commentators said he was out for 8 mins - was scary
