He was drafted as a forward/ruck. I remember our recruiters saying they expected him to grow a little still and that he had the athleticism to play ruck. He actually played a lot of ruck in his U18 footy so its not a stretch by any means

Positives will be 3 first round picks in this draft (and hopefully Viney in 2nd round) Positives also include Scully having another sub par year... From dees point of view, Strauss and Blease starting to string games togther and show signs, obviosly, Howe, Clark, Jones, Watts.... Spencer, McDonald, Im excited by the half dozen or so players we have that will end this year with between 20-30 games under their belt. This is a group that has the potential to take big steps next year (eg, Gysberts, Tappscott, Blease, Howe, Strauss, McDonald) Good group

Stuie, I agree, I cant wait for us to be a hard nose team of bullies..... but I do not want us to be huffing and puffing our chests against teams like the GWS and GC and then laying down against everyone else..... that is a flat track bully because he acts tough when the going is easy but when things get tough he goes to water.

To me he represents everything that is wrong with the MFC....he is a flat track bully.....plays well against the poor young teams and goes missing against good opposition. Spends half the game playing for free kicks instead of just getting the ball.... Not to mention he is gutless.....he will pick a fight with the youngest kid on the opposition. I was disgusted when I saw him at 1/4 time against the Suns chesting some of the young sun players and mouthing off..... 1 good quarter against a team of kids.....someone needed to remind him we had only won 2 games at that point. Put ur head down and play the game....

love how we say things like "The Current FD may have very little affection for him" Like you or anyone else know what the football department think of players.... all just speculation and guessing from the outside. Lets focus our attention on people like Dunn, Bate and co who have been around for years giving us nothing. Not a skinny 20yo KPP.....

When does the bidding for mini draft occurs? Is it before or after the father son bidding? If it is after as i suspect, then the chance of Gold Coast ruling themselves out of any potential mini draft picks by committing pick 2 to Viney is slim. They will want to keep that asset up their sleeve. This could work in our favor here!

But in all seriousness, yes i think being out of the country, and unable to see a single minute of any VFL games, renders any extreme judgement on players who have only played VFL pretty meaningless. Yes travel broadens the mind, but we are not discussing the meaning of life, we are talking about footballers and traveling to asia does not expand your knowledge of a VFL players progression.

Both were standouts given they were both first round draft picks. Cook was very impressive as an u18 year old. So after Watts first year he looked far from the player he is now? What if he had of had a hip injury and missed most of his second year too? Would have showed about as much as Cook has now. You were probably one of the MANY who said watts was useless as recently as first few rounds of this season. Sorry but I just find it frustrating when people don't understand footy, don't understand what certain players need to develop and make idiotic judgements. I hate having supporters like you at our club.

Has everyone failed to learn their lesson from watching Jack Watts? He was torn to shreds as a complete flop by most on here despite the fact that he was(still is) very young, was physically under developed and inexperienced. Yet everyone jumped on him and proclaimed he was a basket case. Now with 50 odd games under his belt, some size he is playing consitently good footy. Yet everyone is doing the exact same thing with Cook. WYL will end up looking very stupid, which is saying something considering he already looks pretty stupid!

What makes you think you got it right wanting Jetta and Darling? Don't think its wise to cast judgement so early on. Gysberts and Cook have a tonne of room for growth. See where they all stack up in 5 years time.

I think we need to remember Mark Neeld will have to make a lot of tough decisions at end of this season and he needs to see what every borderline player has to offer. Im sure Cook is safe but Spencer is far from guaranteed another contract. I think its important we give him a few games now so an educated decision can be made come end of year. I think this is also why blokes like Dunn & Joel MacD are still getting games. Would expect all 3 of them to be delisted at end of yr

Not sure if you know who Boak is but he is a VERY good player, pick 12 and morton or petterd would be a steal for him. As for Petterd, he played 15 games last year for 18 goals playing as a forward. This year he has been dropped twice already and only played 2 games. Clearly he is not a highly rated player.

Sounds like Jetta and Evans are not far off running so may see them late in the year

Pick 12 (or wherever our mid round compo is) and a top up player? Morton? Bennel? Petterd? Probably not enough

I think a relevant stat would be games played with both VFL and AFL combined. Because if blokes have been playing regularly in VFL then development isnt hindered but kills development when on sidelines

A lot to like about his game on the weekend. A few more like that and he will find himself int he seniors pretty quick

Still no Strauss is a concern. But I guess better to be extra conservative with him. Did we rush him back too early at start of yr? Probably just normal complications id say

Well Garry Lyon must be misguided too. Most of the 'experts' who saw the footage agreed that it was a little reckless but not malicious. I hate that our supports are such a pack of nancy snobs

Have you seen the footage? It was more bad luck on Jacks part than anything malicious from Woj. It was just a good hard hip and shoulder, may get a week or 2 because it was slightly high, but probably just the fact that Viney is so small. I will be VERY happy if Viney is laying bumps like that. Describing it as a cheap shot is just plain wrong. Per haps you were referring to the punch that he copped a week for?

Who cares what he gets at tribunal? Are we that soft a club (supporters) that we throw a hissy fit because our player got a heavy hit? Pretty sure Jack Viney would say thats footy and move on. So should we. We need to toughen up. Lets hope Jack Viney is doing the same thing to a debutaunt in a few years time!

He was our 2nd leading possession getter when subbed off..... just needs to keep building his fitness
