  1. It seems a very risky strategy.

    Davis - injury prone

    Scully - injury prone

    Palmer - injury prone

I suppose when you have an AFL behind you you can afford to be a reckless with your recruiting. If things go t's up the AFL just invent some new BS rule to give them more money.

Davis unlucky more than injury prone but is a big unkown of whether he will be a good player. Showed good signs.

Scully has a troublesome knee. Might have a hip issue too, suspect kicking over 30m+ but great work ethic and fitness.

Palmer done his knee once, lost a lot of pace and kicking is an issue. Struggle on the big Subiaco ground, would have moved on anyway.

  2. That's what he said? "This week with Scully I'm sure." Did he elaborate? That was most unconvincing.

All of the scribes are basing this on a hunch, and they are swelling with confidence (read: sheer bloody arrogance) thanks to their clean sweep on the Gold Coast rumours last season.

Yeah thats all he said. He just quickly replies to questions, was hurrying through them. They it came across was he was gone will be announced later in the week. Seems strange that Melbourne don't know and he does. Ward knew told the doggies straight away. As soon as Scully tells the club the footy world will know for sure.

  3. An announcement won't be made within the next 48 hours as some claim.

Scully's manager is on record as stating that his charge won't even look at the GW$ offer until after the final game of Melbourne's season.

A balancing act has to be made between GW$'s desire to pump it's own tyres and Velocity's need to maintain its client's credibility.

I predict a Monday next week announcement with Ward and Scully flanking Sheedy at the presser.

Wards is on Wednesday. Would expect Scully to take a week if not more if he is actually thinking about it. Would imagine a meeting with Melbourne people to see about coach etc, otherwise his mind is made up.

  4. Fwiw, that was a bit tongue in cheek - I understand the logic, but it works both ways.

I did read last week that Sheedy claimed he has a big name signed that has never been mentioned in rumours.

Been racking my brain as to who it could be, but I'm at a loss.

My guess is that it'll be a thoroughly underwhelming signing, like a Goldsack or a Chance Bateman.

Stevie Johnson is the rumour but highly inlikely i would have thought.

  5. To look where Davey is you would think he played one game.

Molney Sylvia and Jones will prob be top 3 with Trengove and Martin close by. Trengove unlucky to miss those 3 games.

Prob shows a bit of Watts biased in those votes. Had a slow start and finished poorly but took massive leaps towards becoming a very good player. Another big preseason and will develop a bigger body.

  6. Yeah that's what bothers me about Jaeger O'Meara. he can't play till 2013 and he's short for a mid. I don't want a 10 year plan and I think we have overdone the drafting at the expense of trading (be it players or picks). We just seem to be getting younger and younger.

Jaeger has played a couple of good games in the WAFL, will be ready to go once he can play. Should serious try everything possible to get him.

  7. Don't kid yourself. If they get tiny crowds and 200-point blowouts, the AFL will change the rules to allow them to pick, say, 8 players from other clubs, no restrictions, no questions asked.

The AFL will not allow them to fail. Regardless of the cost.

This, they have taken a huge risk the AFL. It is more of a marketing project than an AFL team. It will be around no matter what. They have been given a two year window to poach players but will find it just as tough next year as players will see how much they struggle. Expect announcements by the end of the week on unsigned players I would think.

  8. I never blame the umpires, think its an easy way out. If we were good enough we would have won.

Having said that the umpiring was dreadful, Decision were horrible. The non mark to Howe even after the umpire belw the whistle to pay it was terrible. Two occasions Motlop and Rodan were tackled dropped the ball and was called play. Blease was tackled for half a second then it slipped down and was legged as he kicked it and was pinned.

It wasn't just our game, I watched the Gold Coast v Hawks game and that was terribly over umpired. THe free kick to Johnson was shocking in the last minutes. Then a Suns player was in the action of kicking and was half tackled, still managed to get his boot to the ball and was pinned for holding the ball. Then there was the issue bouncing the ball which in all games seemed a struggle.

  9. BIG NAMES FALL TO THE LURE OF THE GIANTS

"GWS coach Kevin Sheedy told the Herald Sun's Jon Ralph at the weekend the club planned to appoint co-captains next year. Scully is expected to be one."

If that's true then the GWS recruiting drive to date has been an epic failure.

Talking this morning to a player manager. Fairly new to game, firstly he has no idea about Scully but said GWS have missed their main targets and pretty much throwing a blank cheque at guys like Scully and Ward, who at the start of the year weren't high targets.

Also he said Merric Buchanan (spelling maybe wrong) will be a gun and should look at. He is also a gun Australian U/19 cricketer. Brother of the Brisbane bloke.

  10. Just took a blatant dive to win a free and lock up the game for the Hawks against GC. Dog act.

Shocking free kick. Umpiring was horrible all game which made the game hard to watch.

Johnson was average and wont play again for the hawks bar injuries.

Bruce was good, finally being played forward which looks his best spot.
