  1. Looks like Brisbane are getting a predominantly Red clash jumper. That red is the regurgitated Fitzroy 1970's color tele version.

Fitzroy's original colors are Blue and Maroon, as is Brisbane Lions home strip. FFC played against the MFC for over 100 years with no confusion that I know of.

The $AFL$ will agree to Brisbane having the regurgitated predominantly red clash jumper, because Brisbane have the $$$ and are an expansion team.

On the other hand the original, and oldest football team in the world, the MFC, cannot have it's original Red because it might clash with "ring-in" expansion clubs.

I know there will be no clash when Melbourne host Brisbane at the G. But that does not excuse the $AFL$ from not allowing a predominant Red clash jumper for the MFC to go with the Red-legs and tradition.

I'll spew if Brissy get Red and we have to have White!!!

  2. If Bruce is made Captain I will spew, then I will break something, then I will sit down and cry, then I will spew again

I respect his career but absolutely should not be captain

Since Green made his loyalties and love for the club perfectly clear recently there is only ONE candidate - only ONE who can possibly get it, and we all know who that is

    Yep.. Bell'y

  3. The system is not exactly seen as being so full of integrity at the moment.

And i think Eddie does smell something in the wind. I have very reliable 2nd hand knowledge of players on both GF teams that are big time party boys.

    Absolutely correct Shaft.

Eddie knows about the Hawthorn party boys and the allegations about their illicit substance use. I'd suggest he's sick of his players copping shite for legal imbibing. The AFL knows about the particular Hawthorn players involved, but, well, money and sponsors, you know.

  4. Stupid as!!

Just like those dumb bunnies at Hawthorn and those Melbourne duds Clarkson, Viney, Fagan and Evans.

Moanaghan = no loss, because no payout; plenty of fish out there.

Clarkson; blessed with above average support, with direction dictated by Dunstall & Co originally.

Viney; if he was worth something Hawthorn would have made an offer he could not refuse. Instead, he left for Adelaide. Never liked crap around here to get him back to Dees.

Fagan and Evans; who are they?

  5. This is why we only need to win four games next year.

    http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=sTAm5DluQf0&...feature=related

Pretty simple really, win four games in 2009 and enjoy the benefits for the next 15 years.

Butcher, a nice KPF in weight for age comp.

Scully impresses with peripheral vision, front and center, and ball getting.

I wouldn't hold back to 4 wins for either of them though. There is similar talent further down, if need be, and our footy dept is paid to find it!

  6. good research. Geelong had a few father-son picks, but other than that you are right.

I guess going by the evidence its not the order the players are taken in.

But is it how well you develop your youth or how well you identify and draft talent?

You have a point, but i don't think having early picks can hurt.

Yes Shaft, I believe it is more about how well you identify players. Remember, Hawthorn had said they wanted tough, no-nonsense players. Jason Dunstall set in train the type of player the Hawks should draft.

I think the Roughead/Franklin drafts were lucky enough, in that they have both jelled.

Yes, early picks don't hurt, but I'm still a fan of a great coaching staff who work in a best-practice environment.

Again, lets work as hard as we can and forget all this crap about hanging around the bottom of the ladder for draft pick reasons.

  7. Apart from Hawthorn’s premiership win this year with five top 5 draft picks, I don’t see evidence that picks 1-5 convert to premiership success.

2008 Hawthorn; Hodge, Roughead, Ellis, Croad, Franklin

    2007 Geelong; Ottens

    2006 WCE; Judd, Banfield

    2005 Sydney Swans: Fosdike

    2004 Port Adelaide: -

    2003 Brisbane Lions: Power, Lappin

2002 Brisbane Lions: Power, Lappin, Headland

    2001: Brisbane Lions: Power, Lappin

    2000: Essendon: Heffernan

    1999: Nth Melbourne: Grant

    1998: Adelaide: -

In 2007, Geelong had 4 players in the 6-10 range; Mackie, Selwood, Bartels, Corey.

In 2006, WCE had no players in the 6-10 pick range.

In the past 15 years, and in addition to the above names, there have only been about 10 further premiership winning players who have been drafted inside the top 10 picks in the national drafts.

  8. ISylvia about tp explode.

Gibbs - overrated pansy, Morton will be twice as good

Judd - groins are stuffed, wil decline raodily next year

Murphy - overrated, midget with crap disposal

    Kreuzer - could be good

Warnock - lol, 20 games and has done nothing. And is anorexic

    Stevens - youre kidding me

Fevola - ok, good full forward

    Walker - HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH

Mods ..... put this [censored] on meds. ;)

typical........ carlton have no depth and are pooz....

i hope fevola does a knee, warnock gets split in two, Stevens continues to put on weight and carazzo goes back to the Fun factory!

Murphy is a [censored] kick. Carlton should have taken Ellis at #1.

I think there's something in there for all of us, don't you? :D

  9. I think it's suicide for the club to remain uncompetitive next year. For the sake of sponsors, members, bums on seats etc, Bailey must begin to show improvement.

I'm not convinced that picks 1-5 necessarily turn out better than 6-10+, over all. Of course you can name great players who were 1-5 draft pick, but you can name many more premiership winning players who were picked beyond 1-5.

Let's go for youth and not make expensive trades. Let's focus on winning with our crop of kids.

We need the club, firstly, to survive financially, then we need to develop our youth into the game plan our coaching staff want to implement.

  10. OK I am an arse bum face smelly stinker. Well there is a first. Really an arse bum face smelly stinker. Jesus what has this nation produced. That is just embarrassing.

OK, the abuse I can cop. But where is the evidence supporting Cranbourne as a desirable training venue for a recruit. Please someone show me some solid evidence, ANYTHING, that suggests Cranbourne is desirable for the players and more importantly by the players.. 1 single reason.

I am tipping I will be waiting a while.............

jackas_backa wins this conversation hands down!

I think you are vitually related to the multiple personalities wheres_jacka aka T.G.R from 'ology. ...something smells familiar in the sentence "construction".. It's not methane I'm smelling either.

In any case, if you are not related, then you should be.

  11. yes....so much to lose in our position :rolleyes:

So much is said speculatively about what he may or may not be...and so we can take any of that as gospel ? I think not. WCE are more a basket case than he (BC ) ever was so I wouldnt put too much bias on that.

Take a look at what he HAS done...and maybe less of all the inuendos and second guesses <_<

If the use of a PSD pick is all but entirely speculative to the max at best...and a throwaway pick at worse...then what is MORE speculative, more risky ?? to pick a looked over kid who may or may not be anything...and most are..accross ALL picks..everywhere.. Far less make it than burn bright for 5 mins then disapper for ever...or a bloke who you know can contribute "something".. Yes..I fully understand the 'something' might be also speculative in nature..but only by degrees...not something or NOTHING !!

Im only suggesting he is definitely worth a consideration..as opposed to dismissal without thinking.

See, I reckon he was performance enhanced when WCE won the flag, and when he won a Brownlow medal. When you gut run, but spew in the first qtr, there could be something wrong. On the basis that he (not alone) was performance enhanced, WCE should lose that flag, and Cousins should lose the Brownlow.

If one of our Olympic athletes was 'done' for drugs, you'd expect all medals and records to be recinded. And you would not entertain a return to the sport at that level.

As I said, "so much to lose in our position", ie, trying to improve without distractions.

    Don't even talk to him!

  12. Thats a mightly big throw away line there DD..based on what exactly may I ask ?

He knows football.. he knows HOW to play football. He knows how to play football at a level way above most on our list.

he knows how to keep fit and how to apply himslef to tasks and focus.

Yes he's screwed up... who hasnt. By all accounts he's trying to take his life in a new direction...that takes serious dedication to task at hand , application and effort.

Lets see Dedication to task at hand............. Application................... Effort

yeah...we can certainly do without any of that at Melbourne...god forbid !!!

Based on the fact that even WCE won't have him back. He's been trouble for years and he won't change now. He is 30, won't be around when we play in our next premiership, so the potential for downside is forefront.

Sure he can get fit and play footy. I just wonder how seriously he can talk to our youngsters in the rooms with "Such Is Life" tattood all over his guts.

Simply not worth the risk in our current position.

  13. You're a good poster DD, but telling someone else they're not welcome on a forum is a bit disappointing. YM frustrates me greatly too and from time to time I've had a shot at him myself but one of the great things about a football team is the diversity of supporters that choose to follow it. The posters on this forum are like the motley crew of drinkers at the local. Just think of YM as the slightly off-beat regular whose slant on life is often cringe-worthy but always entertaining. At the end of the day he might drink a different beer to you but shares your love of the pub. He's the guy you humour for a few minutes and then take the [censored] out of as he stumbles out the door on the way home. But if he stopped coming, the pub would lose a little of its character. YM makes some ridiculous assertions but you can't doubt his passion for this club. His omnipresence here is proof. This forum is no doubt an outlet for him as it is for many of us, when our footballing fortunes seem less than fair. Don't let his antics distract from your usual contributions of quality.

Nice analogy Goodvibes, and I agree. In fact I can relate to it.

Sometimes a bully needs to be squared away though. No problems with opinion, but do have problems with incessant carping about one player. I think the mods have handled it well over the last couple months. I'm happy to have the person remain on the board though.

By the way, we should not even talk to Cousins. He could not take our young guys anywhere useful.

  14. All of the above posts confirm why you tank-out, take your kids in the draft, put the best coaching/fitness/medical dept together, and hope for the best.

MFC do not have the suburban based origins with supporters wealthy and not so wealthy to pull this extraneous money that the interstate clubs, Carltank, Collingw&%$ etc do so well, and in such a covert fashion.

As for how Vlad can react to it, well, fact is he can't. It's all about money, greed and ambition. Vlad's ambitious nature precludes him from implementing lengthy detailed investigations, which inevitably would resolve nothing and lose him his job..

Live with it; as you are living with your diminishing wealth due to the same situation in the financial world.

  15. Well that deal wasn't done. So there you go. He's still ours. And not the worst we have to offer in the back line, so those who don't like him will have to grin and bear it.

If the club seriously had enough on him to get rid of him they would have done so already, and wouldn't have relied on the draft to solve their problems (if it didn't work last year, why would it work this year?). It seems to be all talk and no action - maybe there's not as much in it as the rumour mill suggests.

I hope not, because if they ditch Carroll, there really isn't much to offer in his place is there? I don't think any of the alternatives are any better on the field.

Fair call Suzanna. If he stays, the club must firmly control every aspect of his year. Good footballers can turn attitudes around, and 2006 proves he can play in a resonable side. Although I'm not as close to him as some on this forum who probably do know more about his potential or lack-of.

  16. I am not unhappy with the way trade week turned out for us. It was only ever going to be a "look see" on our part.

It will be interesting over the next couple of years to see how Prismall, $300k/3yr, for Essendon, and Warnock $400k/4yr for Carlton, perform. Y'know, see if those clubs get their money's worth.

I also hope the AFL are monitoring the salary cap situation at Carlton.

  17. Greem had a great year last year.

By my reckoning that would be his first. And we came 16th.

And whenever it's got hard in the past, Mr Green, along with Mr Johnstone were the first to go missing.

It's 3 year deals such as this which explain why we are at 100% TPP and 16th

This with your head, not with your heart,

Green never went missing. The team did. It's a credit to him that he could perform so well this year in a [censored] side with no help. Green's set shot goalkicking ability is the only thing I believe has gone missing. He is not a natural leader, in fact any sort of leader. He would be pretty handy at Collinw&%$ or Sydney where he would never be looked upon as one of the best players, or a leader. His courage, marking, and raking left foot would be very handy in one of those sides.

He could never be handy at MFC because he simply does not fit into the 'premiership window', whatever the F&%$ that means. Also, everyone knows that all first and second round draft picks become top 5 performers in all AFL clubs who get them, and if you can snare a PSD, well, polish up the silverware, sunshine.!

By the way, it's not 3 year deals that caused 100% tpp. It's the way they've been applied, and to whom. Our footy department never heard of forward loaded contracts.

Don't blame Green, just give him to Collinw&%$ and see whether they or us win a premiership first.
