you know as well i as i, that the people that don't really follow the game, or dont go to matches, or are from other countries or whatever...go for melbourne..cos they live here, or they go for melbourne because it's family and been passed down from when we were the juggernaut of the league- we just dont have the memberships

Absolute carp BB. Nobody goes for MFC because they live in "Melbourne?". And there's never any family pass-down. My father played for Sth Melbourne 2's after WWII. I barrack for Melbourne, my 2 brothers barrack for Collingw&%$. My 2 sons barrack for Melbourne under threat of death, but my grandson likes Nth Melb, but he's 3 and under the spell of a wicked auntie. Go figure!!

You need to be old to remember the juggernaught. No-one is that old any more. I know very few MFC supporters and my sons know even less. A sign of lean times. IMO, we picked up very few new young ones during this millenium due to our sporadic performances.

Get off the MCC case; they are well represented as MFC and are a declining ratio within the MCC. I reckon they've already been caned.

And, BB, I understand your impatience to re-sign, but you're an internet person. Just log on to the MFC website and sign on as soon as you can. I'll just tick off my auto renewal when it calls up. Done!

  2. that is the problem with the team not with bell. when a player gets the ball and runs up field, the half forwards should be leading to space and presenting options. they shouldnt stand still and wait for players to kick it to a contest, which is what happens. he stops because there is no one to kick it too, and if he kept running he would run straight into an opposition player in front of him.

the other option is just bomb it long. maybe he should do that more, posters around here would praise his 'long kicking ability'.

The days of kicking long to a contest or to open space wide, if there are no options, are gone.

The only option therefore, is to stand there like a stunned mullet and invariably get caught cold, unfortunately. Ah yes, swivel and pass latterally to another non existant option. ;)

It's hard to be good in defence in a bad side. I think Bell can be a very good player in a good side.

  3. 3.

    Option 3 (Best Practice):

This Club's clash jumper is universally heralded as significantly traditional, and even given the Club's lack of financial independence of the AFL at this time, has convinced them that supporters are important too. In the long term it’s customer service that keeps them coming. Other teams marvel at how this team believes the commission is there to support the AFL teams. On the bright side, the Demons of this Universe are everyone's second team.

Always exciting, this team plays fast, running footy, and averages the most points kicked, one-percenters and tackles per game. The team has the ability to move to plan “B” when the opposition gains possession for longer periods. This Club wins a Premiership 3 years in 20 but spends 14 years in 20 playing finals. Indeed, this team is rarely out of the finals and maintains a never say die attitude. It is not overly committed to pre-season cups and uses those matches to tune up for the season start. Its members and sponsors understands ‘pay day’ is the season proper.

This Club has not won a wooden spoon since 3 years before the draft system was implemented. It has the innate ability to maximize draft choices by pragmatic list management when finals success is unattainable.

In its good years, this Club averages 65 thousand people to its home games. In those years where the Club finishes outside the 8, crowd numbers and memberships decrease but this fighting outfit always attracts a reasonable crowd because they always deliver spirited opposition.

The club supports a high supporter-to-member ratio because it provides value for money, top seating, regular access to the playing group, and a best practice communications department.

This Club values loyalty, and its players regularly celebrate 250 game milestones due to great coaching, medical, and fitness facilities regime.

Milestone games are important for competitive players and farewell games are conscientiously planned to maximize value for player and club.

Players will be traded if form necessitates. This club also understands how to get the experience, youth and leadership mix right to provide longevity of success. Father-and-sons listings, consecutive games and similar milestones are treated pragmatically.

The average age of this team is constantly under scrutiny by the footy department to maintain the best results year on year, with an eye firmly on winning Premierships.

  4. The Didak interview by Hutchy on The Footy Show just proved to me Didak is a spud.

Although Heath Shaw's name was never mentioned by Hutchy, Didak had the need to indicate 'we felt this way', 'Heath and I thought', 'we knew we had done the wrong thing', etc, etc.

At no stage did he take personal and singular responsibility for anything.

This turkey cannot take on board any personal responsibility for his own behaviour.

    Pi$$ him off !!!

  5. Congratulations Oooooooooze on a great career.

You did some incredible stuff. Great acrobatic marks overhead and on chest. Kicked miraculous goals from deep in right pockets.

Your hand and foot disposal ratio was highly skewed to foot.

You were not 'hungry', you just had confidence in your ability to effectively execute by foot. Invariably, you did!

You played in a Daniher era of corridor and long disposal to effect fast scoring. It was alternatively successful over 8 years.

You played with some very good players and your style enhanced the team.

You would be placed in the center when clearances were immediatley necessary. You would be placed forward when a game needed to be won.

    You cleared, you goaled.

You will always be the Ooooooooooooooooooze.

Thanks for the Demon effort, Adem Yze. Good luck!

  6. I won't go to the books and stats which I really can't rate... I can only decide from players I have seen. Barassi, I only saw with Carlton though, but could see the 'aura'.

    So my choices are;

    1. Robbie Flower

    2. Ron Barrassi (probably because he captained and played during our best period)

    3. Greg Wells.

  7. i think that is the best, and should be the one we use (i emailled the club about it). however, i dont think we should have a white border around the monogram on the jumper. i believe that, while this looks great on paper and at close distances, would actually become really blurry at the ground or on tv and you lose the definition (ie you have two lines not one). this is a pet hate of mine on all afl jumpers, i think it makes them messier and makes more of a clash for everyone.

    Fair call, deanox.

  8. An improved one of the one that has been going around for a while now.

    Melbourne_Clash-concept7.gif

Magnificent! Simply, this is THE ONE !!!!!!

Love it, would buy it, would love to watch it running around the G, would love to see a sea of them in the stands.

Well done Bub, well done demons06 ! Please send it to Jimma and Coxy.

(as an aside, I could equally go with the 'demon' on this jumper, but I prefer the insignia)

  9. One of the reasons we finished bottom is that players such as Wheatley are guaranteed games. He's border line VFL in middle of the road teams and is playing VFL for the Cats and the Hawks. I'd be surprised if an average MFC footballer who picks up outside possesions on the bank flank/wing, turns the 55 metre kick over to the opposition, who then run and carry the ball past him and score another goal from a MFC turnover. I'm not sure where the respect comes from. As far as losing contests, What contest. He's an outside player who like so much of our team is found missing when the heat is on. It really is time we stopped playing these kinds of players and developed a ruthless list of players who don't shirk an issue and who can deliver the ball cleanly. He's not underrated he's overrated. Trade him!

No offence to Paul is meant here, for his standard he's had a good season but we're gone until we have 22 players better than Paul Wheatley.

I thought he had a good year, considering the quality of the rest right now.

He spoils well in the air. Handy 3rd supporting man.

I still like him on HB or working off deep Wing due to his run. He is an outside player but runs well to receive. He can kick the ball long and direct.

Fix up the forward structure to utilize his drive, and get the ball in fast.

Replace him when we have equivalent line breaking available off B and HB.

  10. I think Wheatley likes to run straight. We get benefit from his pace and line breaking. Not a noted contested marking player and not that great below his knees.

He usually has license to run through Midfield and HF so would still expect him to kick 50m goals.

I'd say, yes wing if necessary, but not HF.

  11. It was all very romantic, the thought of Robbie playing with his brother here, I don't think.

I'm not all that upset about not paying $300k/yr for an unproven player. Imagine if he breaks down again, even.

I hope Vlad is diligent, and consistent, in the Carlton salary cap audit.

Roll on national draft. Go Dees footy dept!!!

  12. We've closed ranks with our new Demon President, board, football department, etc.

We've hung tough with the AFL, in that we are 150yrs old.

We've made moves to go back home to the MCC and our MCG. At the same time we have moved further in the last 2 months than in the last 5 years to find a summer home where the Demons can "burn".

We debate our clash jumper and demand Red!

    We are one, man!

Give me an ex-Dee in any coaching position we have available, if he qualifies !! (Sorry DB, you are honarary due to your "hang tough" year, and we do want you going forward)

This attitude makes us Demons. Makes me feel good against the McGuires, Kennetts and Dimitriou's of this game!!

  13. If all reports are correct and we can go with all red and a blue demon then surely we'd have a case to just reverse our colours. Our design is unique and i think it would be great to keep it in a clash jumper.

Fair call... but the Dee might excite the younger folk. And I could easily buy Bub's design and wear it to the ground.. and a few other places as well.

  14. I'd rather find an ex-Dee.

Harvey is the most exceptional footballer, who has incredibly made the evolutionary changes over 21 years to maintain football competitiveness. Can he coach? I don't know!

But give me an ex-Dee... yeh, probably Todd.

Or what about Chris Connolly? Could we get a discount for Chris?

  15. Look, I've analysed this whole Robbie Warnock thing in detail.

    I have had detailed discussions, mostly on another issue, granted, with no less demonland luminaries than, "deanox", "belzebub59" and "Rhino Richards" as to how we can fit this dynamic 16 game wonder ruckman into the Red clash jumper, and we've come up with the following;

Just spend the $1m over 3 years. We're good for it! He may not even break down, or better still he may eventually be a footballer.

Can you just wait until I raise my umbrella... ta.

  16. Thats fantastic news..

The word is the white jumper with the demon logo was chosen..

the white parts become red, the red parts become blue.. nice.. ;)

Can one of you bubbleheads out there "knock up a mock up" for us on your computational DEvice, so we can see what Nudge is imagining?

I'd do it, but I'm too busy with Bub, QueenC and Rhino, nockin our heads against Bubs brick wall, on another matter !!

  17. If Collingw&%$ win this week and get into the Preliminary final, I believe Didak and Shaw should be available for selection.

I think they both deserve to have the chance to play in a losing Colling&%$ grand final like so many other Collingw&%$ players before them.

Also, if they don't play, it will forever be used as an excuse for why they lost.

  18. ok i'll say it once more. pay attention this time because even though it is very obvious, you clearly dont get it.

We pay carroll next year whether he plays or not.

if we want to have a young kid on the list instead of carroll, we can pay carroll out now, and then pay for the young kid.

the extra cost is only the cost of the draftee, because we would have been paying carroll to waste away like yze did this year.

which means the only money that could be 'saved' is the cost of the draftee.

Yeh, I get it. But if it wasn't for me, you, Bub and Rhino would have nothing to do.
