  1. I think it is time to talk about trades, Cameron Bruce its time to find him a new home put him out there, i think the swans would love him, take what ever they wont to give for him, Paul chapman has to leave the cats, they wont him to take a pay cut,to pay there other stars more money, he does not wont to take a pay cut, that's what billy brownless said on sen a few morning ago. i think he is more important then ablett, he is a gun and hard at it he would improve any side by 10%

Cam Bruce is a good footballer for us but at the end of his best. Other clubs know there is not much left in him, even for 1 year to get a premiership.

He has been great for us over the last 5-6 years and he will now play out his career with MFC, especially now that the salary cap has eased with the departure of 3 of our senior players.

I think we could use him while our babies are maturing, if not simply to take opposition heat, or offer it. He should retire no later than the end of next year to avoid an Yze type ending. There are parallels with Yze, for example the disposal penetration is missing for the same reason; the massive ball drop, which no longer suits a tired leg.

  2. Hutchy, on the footy show, just broke that Cousins will go to St Kilda.

Also Kerr to Brisbane, who will trade a high draft pick for him.

I'm happy if both of those happen. Will be nice to see Scum miss on Cousins. IMO it is definitely make or break for the Saints, at the end of their premiership window, to try to get over the line. They'll fail. So will Brisbane, Kerr won't help their problem.

  3. I'm getting pretty comfortable with our On and Off field potential, right now.

The additon of Schwabby seems to round out a vibrant executive management group. The footy department seems 'as one', and everyone understands the critical nature of a) financial revival and security and 'b) on-field success built from the best young cattle ever to be herded together from the saleyard. Ye-ha!

Schwab's speech talked about 'demanding of each other', which I paraphrase as everyone being accountable.

Then there was "On and Off field being as one" with everyone measured on performance.

From 1964 onwards, I can't remember a MFC being so united, singularly focussed, and primed for success on field. By the time drafting is finished there will be a lot to be excited about Demon Fans.

If we can't fix our finances, home, and on-field success problems with this MFC team, then I don't think any combination could!

  4. they are both fine, option b being the better

stop your whinging all of you- yes we know that essendon and collingwood make slight alterations but who cares

english premier league clubs that have been around the same time (but we're just older!!!) ie man United etc. have totally different colour away/clash strips

they are fine- at the end of the day, we want to be winning footy, and we arent going to play all those teams in an away game to wear it 5 times in the season anyway.

Some of this is about the original sports club being shafted by the AFL Politburo, and dictated to by Filth and Scum. Paranoid?..hell yeh!

If every club would line up in their "whites" for away clashes then I could probably convince myself that the "B" option may, just may, be appropriate.

Look, it seems we must bend over, so we will. It just makes me more determined for the club to be successful so we can get some payback in future.

    I'm becoming rabid anti filth/scum/afl.

  5. To everyone who is saying "why do we have to wear white, I'm not going to vote because it's not red & blue", this is the reason; The AFL has made a rule that WE CANT wear the red jumper - otherwise we would be still wearing it!

Unfair as the rules are (and I agree - they are), but - we have to play by the rules!!

Too all those people who wont vote - dont sulk & cry later if you dont like it! You had the chance to vote & you didnt - tough!

IMO, option B is better. Yes, we do want the Demon back (& it will be back) - but, we need to get back to the MFC logo. It equals TRADITION!

s3, I will sulk and cry because I don't like white.

Folks keep in mind this need only be our clash guernsey for 2 years..it can change again..undoubtedly will.

Maybe we get the white with logo... then get the Red with blue logo later.... But lets get the Traditon of this club firmly rooted into peoples minds first...

    stealth and baby steps..

    plan B fo rme :)

Having said that, Bub's such a convincing barstool, I might lean toward "B" and vote for it... only because it's stealthy and baby step-like!

Geez I feel like I've been neutered by Filth and Scum though!

  6. Can't do it guys. I'm a bit like the Collingw&%$ and Scum supporters. I'm a traditionalist and I'm not voting for white.

Give me a red and blue jumper to vote on.

I think "A" will win because a lot of us will not vote. And it will be Shite!

Call me pathetic too if you like High Tower, I'm used to it.

  7. The best was Colin Sylvia by a street. Honourable mentions to Bruce, Martin, Buckley and JMac. Wheatley racked up possessions down back switching and transferring play, whilst Bell was one of the most ineffective - 65%. With only three players more ineffective. Morton was average.

Statistically there wasn't a great gulf between Sylvia and Morton other than disposal effectiveness 76% v 69%. I would probably expect that due to Mortons rawness but he did plenty to excite me with regard to his potential, particluarly in the first half.

As you state, Bell was statistically ineffective but particularly in the first half he spotted up almost perfectly everytime, while negating Ebert. I think he was over powered pressure-wise particularly in the final qtr as support began to fade. That may have lowered his DE% but he looked better than the stat indicated.

  8. If this ensures the club becomes all the best of chums (cronyism, single agenda) with all of the boys able to, single mindedly, sail into that uncharted territory of financial security, navigating the shoals to that promised land of multiple premierships, then I’m fully supportive.

No life boats on this trip my Demon friends.

  9. Nice to get that little game out of the way. The result was relatively as expected. The result confirms my beliefs regarding WCE last week, and if I may be as disgraceful as some ex coaches, say that that game was tanked, and that John Worsfold is the biggest LSOB ever to coach a footy club.

Anyway positives were; Morton, Buckley, and Martin who while beaten, keeps showing improvement and will be exciting for the future.

I thought our best were JMac, Buckley, Morton, and with reasonable efforts from Wheatley, Bell, Whelan, Sylvia, and Bruce who probably cancelled out Cornes.

The scary part, and it was extremely evident apart from our best player JMac, is the lack of hard, skillful, strong experience and leadership on the ground. I'm not sure how our young players develop their games to the highest level given the absence of experienced examples moving into the future.

Now that we have the PSD in our pocket and 16th place we can look forward to the draft. I hope we pick well, a lot of football dept reputations hang on this.

From next week the MFC can freely attack the future by way of selection and game plan. Yes, now DB can begin rolling out the real deal. I'm not too fussed who is selected, as long as the aim is to win at all cost.

  10. Yeh, great idea. Hope we get it through. If MFC can become competitive and with the AFL really pumping money into footy development in the harbour city, this could be a great move in the long run. It also accentuates that an Australian football league must have a "Melbourne".

Linking it to a nationalistic ideal is really beneficial IMO. Playing it in the national capital may eventually take some steam out of that other suburban game we suffer through. Well, we live in hope, don't we?

  11. Let’s put the MCC aside for a second, and maybe we can forget that some clubs like the Filth may have a yearly budget of $60million, and a home.

We poor punters can give and give but at days end will not make any difference to club survival. Don’t let that stop you because every little bit helps. That $200 you forego on your grocery bill… well that means a lot to a club.

It’s not the volume of membership Collingwood and Essendon have that ensures their survival. It is the broad barracking numbers, populace if you like, that the marketeers want so they can sell them stuff. 100 poor people are better value to a soap seller than 5 wealthy people.

There used to be drafting zones in Victoria. If you lived in Shepparton, for example, you might barrack for Melbourne. This zone connection was more value than most people might think. I know, in my area around Wangaratta there are disproportionate Nth Melbourne supporters still. The kids? - well, auskick for some, soccer for others. Trend black and white because of the strength of Wang Magpies - sorry I digress, I played maggies.

When you think about the MFC now, where is their populace connection? No roots in a suburb, only historic roots in inner suburban affluence - "ding" "ding", could this be why the perception is Range Rover snow bunny? Of course you already know that!

Where are the Collingwood supporters? Well, take any toothless fool in any town, in any part of the country, and chances are s/he’ll be a Collingwood supporter because the lower eco-social meat is drawn to colorless fabric, and if you have a clean shaven Broady boy as president who has made good but talks low…well, what cloth-less person would not go that way?

Then there are teams like Melbourne… Demo/cultural/broad/socio is the answer.

What was the question again? Oh yeh, do we go to Casey Fields? Indeed, why not. How can it hurt?

  12. Says who?

We're 16th and he can hit a target, there is definitely a spot for him in the side especially since Aussie is struggling.

Maric has qualified... He can now forward his career with MFC over the next few years. Last thing he needs is to play in the upcoming PA debacle, which is pencilled in for a loss from all accounts, but don't tell anyone. If he is not hitting the books, the young fella can rest his body.

  13. Very selective 45. The full statement was, "We need those players selected who can benefit the most, but in terms of where we are going list wise in 2009.

So, as I said, you answered your own question. I can accept that I may only beat you once in a debate ;) I'm not greedy.

  14. I'd find it odd if supporters on a forum don't have an opinion on any given week's selection, maybe that's just me. And what does Yze have to gain from playing this match, and how does it help our list management into '09?I agree Swamp, i wouldn't give us a chance to win even if we had no injuries. I'd like to see us fight and not lose by over 60 points yet again at that horrid ground

I think you've answered your own question 45. Could this be the loss we have to have?

  15. I find it amusing the amount of people going "oh what why!?" on here without a. knowing what's going on at the selection table and b. actually backing up with any kind of argument whatsoever

I find it amusing you're here at all

He's almost got a point 45. Yes, we are here to analyse, scrutinise etc, but we can't second guess the off-field game plan. The plan which dovetails into the big match at season's end; Drafting for the future!

IMO with these last couple of games it really doesn't matter which players play. We need those players selected who can benefit the most, but in terms of where we are going list wisei in 2009.

  16. Actually there's a much easier way to quote two posts. Each post has a 'quote' button on it. When you click it it turns red. Click that button for all the posts you want to quote, then scroll to the bottom or top of the screen and click 'Add reply'. If you do this right each post will be in your reply.

And here's me, dropping it all into a Word file first then copying it back into my forum reply...

titan uranus... you have all the rings.

  17. The rules of this forum say that one person can only have one sign-on, but they don’t stop multiple people from using one sign-on!

Herein lies the problem; I am 54 years of age, wore my first Demons footy strip to primary school sport in 1963 at springvale state school. RMIT Engineering degree, married, 3 kids, played footy in the country, coached footy in the country.

My identical twin is 28 yrs old, never worked, is illiterate, as you can see by some of his posts, and believes he knows all about people’s personalities simply by their forum post, and can sometimes be unfunny.

Hang on, got to go…..quick, Dees Dayz is coming up the driveway.

  18. Upon reading the changes I wasn't exactly inspired. However, we've made like-for-like changes, so in essence this...

Garland > Frawley - fair enough, although I'm disappointed Frawley's missing

White > Meesen (PJ out inj.) - again, fair enough

Dunn > Valenti - again, fair enough, perhaps could have been Bartram out, but Valenti's pace may have been a concern

Yze > Maric - not sure about this one, particularly as Wonna has retained his spot, but perhaps it is due to VCE

Rogue, you get the cupie doll here. Good Post.

Listen to all these prima donnas carrying on about their favourite puppies.

Seriously folks, we do need to find a loss over the next 2 weeks but this loss is fairly well camouflaged, if indeed this is the loss one. Bailey could easily justify this at any press conference.

Fair dinkum, you blokes are rattled, 4 or 5 nothing posts from High Tower and we haven't even heard 45hotgod's pearls yet.

And YM, you can do better than that, my learned friend.
