The Sachse incident is exactly why I keep banging on about penalising a player who dives kamikaze like into a pack or another player. It will sadly happen again. The action needs to be vigorously discouraged and a free kick against (and certainly not a free for high contact) paid consistently would minimise this highly dangerous practice. Concussion is bad enough: paraplegia is immediately and permanently life changing, for everyone involved.
Excellent post which will probably get lost in this thread but it's worth serious debate.
I've been of the view that the AFL missed a trick a few years ago. Rather than call play on when a player ducks into a tackle, the ducker should be penalised with a free kick against.
The action would soon be coached out of players if it's costing the team.

Bloody hell. I'm no friend of Norf but even I'm wondering how many times the footy gods can fart in their faces. Brutal way to lose.

No idea. It's been a course of frustration for me that Casey's most important player has been out injured for some time and I have absolutely no idea of the nature of his injury, expected time for return etc. The reality is that because he's not a Melbourne-listed player the Club clearly doesn't believe it's their responsibility to keep us informed. Is Casey part of the Melbourne set-up or not?
The only snippet I've heard on Munro was during the Casey coverage a few weeks ago. I believe I heard one of the commentators mention that Jimmy had a 6 to 8 week calf injury. Can't recall exactly which game it was so I'm not inclined to go searching for it.

His head hits the ground so we will lose but I don’t think that sort of tackle should be banned. It’s one action, not two, no arms pinned, and doesn’t involved a demonstrative dump or drive head first.
Agreed. But this part of an over correction in protecting the head in terms of player responsibility to opponents and "duty of care".
What seems to have dissipated is an individual's duty of self care. In this case Day had the capacity to use his free arms to brace his fall. That he didn't shouldn't fall on Sparrow in my view but that's the environment we find ourselves in.
No winning this so move on. It'll be another player from another club in the coming weeks. Best get used to it

Is it just me or is the push in the back dead?
They only seem to pay it when a player is pushed on the run?
It's not just you. There's a push in the back epidemic. And it should be called out.
It's not strength in the contest. It's cheating.
Hands in the back rule should never have been rescinded. It made it easier to adjudicate and disarmed players like that Collingwood / Freo nuffie James Clement who built a career on cheating.

It is amazing how long Neil has lasted with this horrible disease. He must be one of the longest I have heard of. I know of another sufferer who lasted just 21 months.
Just another example of what a remarkable human being he is @old dee

If I had a $1 everytime Frosty was mentioned in this manner on a Demonland forum.
I will always have a soft spot for him.
I'll remain grateful to Frosty. When we were complete tripe he gave his all and provided most of the limited entertainment we had in those dark times.
Frostball !!!!

Yeah. There's a "predetermined" feel to all this.

These boundary umpires need to get in the gym.
And the rucks need to smarten up. Short throw ins are the standard today

Canberra was once an "Aussie Rules" town with a healthy local competition which regularly produced VFL players. The great Alex Jesaulenko probably being the most notable.
That all got turned on its head in the early 80s when the NRL first expanded and established the Canberra Raiders.
I'd doubt there's any traction in creating the 20th team in the national capital now. That horse bolted 40 years ago

Certainly the drills he took part in were non contact with just kicking, marking and handballing and some light running. Later when there was slightly more contact drills he did not participate.
However I remember hearing that during concussion protocols they weren't allowed to be at the club let alone train but I could be wrong and probably am. Obviously am because I doubt we would fragrantly break protocol at an Open Session.
You'd think that a player going through concussion protocols would have to present at the club for monitoring and ongoing assessment.
I'd imagine the protocols would give guidelines as to what level of training a player could undertake, depending on what symptoms are being displayed. Some might be told they can run laps. Others sent home and told to stay in a dark room.

........And if he could add more crash and bash he could play as the second key forward, allowing us to use another medium rather than hunt for 2 big keys. But we aren’t exactly loaded with medium options either.
I also think he could and should be used in short bursts on the wing to round out his game and give us a different attacking path. But that’s even more of an aside.
Either way, Jefferson is definitely low intensity but there have been some signs with his tackling and pack marking efforts that he’s working on it. For the first year you just want to see a players strengths look like strengths. I’ve seen enough to say Jeffo’s class is absolutely as advertised.
And if your Auntie had balls she'd be your uncle. The reality is that Fritsch doesn't have the physical attributes to play the crash and bash KPF role. Go and stand next to him and you'll see. While he's strengthened over the course of his AFL career, he'd still be able to sleep in the shade of a crowbar.
I'm of the view that his commitment to pressure and tackling has improved this season.
Agree on Jefferson. Young players making their way will have their ups and downs but if doubters have a look at VFL round 1, I reckon they will see that Jeffo’s got a lot to offer and is made of the right stuff.

Brilliant. Just Brilliant. Love watching Kozzie play and he's only just warming up. Could be amongst the best players in the game by the time his next contract is due.

Say what you like about Tiger fans but there are tons of the buggers and they are loyal. Even through three decades when all they had to look forward to was finishing ninth, they turned up in droves.
Unlike those bandwagoners from Hawthorn

I'm turning 73 in less than 4 hours, have recently retired and the only thing I want more than good wine, and Melbourne winning, is the thought of living somewhere between Goolwa and Encounter Bay. Normanville/Yankalilla also sound fine. I worked in the wine Business and have been to SA over 50 times, mainly to McClaren Vale and that area. Apart from it being God's own country, anywhere north of the areas I mentioned get too hot for me in summer...
Happy birthday @Monbon

Lachie Hunter Loses Bid To Overturn 1 Week Suspension

Bravo BigShorts. Should be compulsory listening at all levels in the AFL.
Unless things change there's gonna be a serious, serious injury. Players are being rewarded for placing themselves at risk.
The ruling by Gleeson just put a player closer to permanently losing the use of his arms and legs.
It's just a matter of time
