2018 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
The Great Pretender replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have discovered a great prospect for the Melbourne Football Club. Warragul’s Noah Gown kicked 5 goals last week for the Gippsland Power in their win against Northern Knights. He’s 193cm and plays KPF - with that name, he would be great standing in the forward line next to Maxy when the big man’s resting. “TAC Cup 2018 Northern Knights 5.1 6.2 9.8 10.8 (68) Gippsland Power 2.0 7.3 8.4 13.7 (85) GOALS: Northern Knights: Naylor 3 D'Intinosante 2 Potter Wild McKenzie Barro Bowkett Gippsland Power: Gown 5 Duursma 2 Hodge Motton Flanders Hood Hume Mosquito BEST: Northern Knights: Potter D'Intinosante Philp Bowkett Wild Davies Gippsland Power: Beck McGannon Gown Flanders Reid Motton” -

Fair enough but if we're really going to be positive, why not 50 points? -

The Great Pretender replied to Deemented Are Go!'s topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
We’ve been scored against in the first quarter of an AFLW game. Only a point but it’s a load off our backs. -
Scott Gullan reports in the Herald Sun:- Patrick Dangerfield likely to miss Round 1 after sustaining hamstring injury against Essendon Also says G Ablett trained strongly this week and should play in Round 1 and the Cats also lost ruckman Rhys Stanley early in the game with a calf injury.

AFLW: Rd 5 v. Brisbane @ Casey
The Great Pretender replied to Demonland's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
In a competition where percentage could determine whether or not you make the grand final, Melbourne’s accuracy record has been deplorable apart from in the opening round:- 1 Melbourne 7.3.45 to GWS 6.3.39 2 Melbourne 8.8.56 to Adelaide 4.0.24 3 Melbourne 4.7.31 to Fremantle 6.0.36 4 Melbourne 3.6.24 to Collingwood 9.4.58 5 Melbourne 4.10.34 to Brisbane 4.4.28 That’s 70 scoring shots to 40 - which would give you a percentage of 175% whereas our real percentage is 102.5%. This needs to be addressed. -

It’s all a bit strange to me. Firstly, the blokes on the MFC list who didn’t play in the JLT game like Declan Keilty, Dion Johnstone etc. aren’t getting real match time into their legs with the season just a few weeks away. Secondly, why would Casey need to have a VFL list of 30 players if there are no ressies?
-
If Ling's any good and he plays for the Falcons then you can be sure the Cats will know all about him and because they have a few picks ahead of 29, they'll strike first.
-
Minor disappointment that we weren't able to (or didn't want to) trade up to get an early second round pick which might have opened up a chance to draft a better player of the type we need. Perhaps, the FD think that our list is pretty good to run with and the next induction of draftees will be developed over time.

I don't understand why the club doesn't retain Corey Maynard as a Category B rookie for another year to enable it to have room if required for a pick in the rookie draft?

My guess is the reason why we would pay for him would be to play some good footy. -

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 13
The Great Pretender replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yesterday I came across a copy of the preseason game v Bulldogs which I kept for some reason. Among the missing from that game tomorrow were Hogan (4 goals), Weideman (2 goals) and Gawn, Brayshaw and J Smith were among our best. Think about that! -

The rest of the headline says Hogan's OK.
