  1. As a matter of interest, who did Freo take with the #2 pick we traded to them in the White deal ?
  2. Picking champion footballers is like winning the lotto. I think CAC has done a reasonable job, but where he deserves most credit is the late/rookie picks. Judging Frawley when he is only in his 2nd season is a bit harsh. He is showing a small improvement with every match. I would rather a team of players that improved incrementally and went on to play a good brand of footy week in week out. This, I think is what DB is trying to build over the next 3 yrs. The dripping tap fills the bucket approach.
  3. I think both Morton and Palmer are going to be great players. But if I were to choose which player I would rather have on my team it would be Cale Morton. % Stats are not a true indication of effectiveness. Palmer will be a very good midfielder but his quality of disposal is average. As we have seen time and time again silky skills cannot be aquired they are a natural ability that you either have or don't. Morton on the other hand has exeptional skill, maturity and awareness for a kid his age. Yes, we would like to see him put some bulk on over the next couple of years, but even if he doesn't he will still ooze class ala the great Robbie Flower.
  4. DeeReaming your analysis on what should be the ins/outs are nearly always spot on every week. The only other possible change would be Sylvia OUT - Moloney IN !!!!
  5. Speaking of point kick-ins, has anyone noticed the fact that we are (what seems to be purposely) conceding the oppositions point kick-ins ? We are basically giving the opposition a 50-60mtr head start.....
  6. G'day Zebraman, thanks for the insight. Could you please give us a brief rundown as to how the other Dee's players went for Sandy yesterday ?
  7. Spot on Tim !!! Having Wheels back on board can't come soon enough !!!
  8. If Buckley can harness some confidence and polish up his disposal he will be hard to contain. I saw glimpses of Ju$$ style explosive pack breaking in the game at skilled. Huge potential !!
  9. I know DB has said that he would like to teach players to play in multiple positions, but there seems to be a lot of discussion about players who haven't cemented thier positions. There can be many and varied reasons why these players haven't done so yet, e.g injury, suspension , new to the list etc. This topic is not designed to 'bag' any players, but to identify which positions people think they might be best in and why. Possibly alternative positions that they 'may' be suited to but have never or rarely played in. Successful teams seem to be the ones that have most positions 'settled' and the MFC and DB are at the stage of identifying just that. Thoughts on any of the players our list are welcome. Anyway here goes...... Matty Bate - HFF with a bit of time pinch hitting through the middle. Lynden Dunn - As above. Brad Green - Play him forward and get him used to kicking goals again. maybe played back at times when we need it. Paul Johnson - Roaming tall across half back as he did very succesfully against the crows last year in one of our rare wins. I don't really like him forward as he is not the best kick in the world (far from worst either) but he is strong at contests and never gives up. Stef Martin - Given a little time he could become one of the 'great' Full Backs of our time. Brad Miller - If he can get the toughness back into his game like DB assures us, basically play him on anyone who 'needs' to start hearing footsteps Colin Sylvia - Midfield. Paul Wheatley - Definately on the wing. His penetrating kicks in the forward line will be invaluable and with Morton on the other wing our delivery into the forward line starts looking very dangerous. Adem Yze - Forward Pocket rotating with Sylvia or Dunn if they need a rest. Cheers DeeMfc
  10. FWIW I have not been pro Miller since he "softened" his game in recent years. But in his defence he has been playing in "no mans land" for too long. Brad Miller should NOT be played in the last line of defence because of his lack of "defensive" decision making skills. He also isn't a true CHF because he leads too far up the ground. So where should Brad Miller play ? If he can get his confidence/aggression back i believe he would be great in the Forward Pocket also filling in at Full forward when Neitz moves up the ground (which I think he will do more often in 08). At CHF he has shown that he can shake his opponent, lead and mark in front on many occasions, but ends up on the wing.... If he did the same from FF or a FP he would mark the ball 45 mtrs from goal !!! His toughness around the packs in a FP/FF position would create many a loose ball for the attacking midfielders to collect. I will support EVERY player while they are on our list !!!! Brad Miller, the only way '08' will be your year is if you "MAKE IT YOUR YEAR" Has he got what it takes ? We will find out soon enough.
  11. Commemorative 150th pin, MFC bar mat, MFC golf/sports towel...... anything really. I have enough scarves for every window of both cars and as others have said, i would never wear the tie.
  12. Speaking of backlines. I think we will see a lot more of PJ in the backline as a roaming tall or even at times playing on tall forwards. He is athletic, strong and a good spoiler. PJ played a very effective role across our backline in the win against the Crows last year.
  13. Well said No 16 !!!! As someone said earlier, there is too much going on in an AFL game to sing a song. It has to be a chant that is simple, distinctively Mfc/Demons and aggressive if the players and the general AFL following public are going to take notice. One of the main problems we have is being drowned out by larger opposition crowds. Maybe the use of a tool of some sort (like those handheld clappers etc.) in conjunction with the new chant could be the trick. They could be red and blue, logo'd, produced by the club and sold through the Mfc shop or at the grounds therefore also adding to revenues. Maybe even given with kids memberships. Wouldn't it be nice to drown out the Carltank and filth supporters for once !!! :D That hasn't been done for 43 years either..... It's time to stand tall and be noticed for we are the FIRST & GREATEST FOOTBALL CLUB IN THE WORLD !!!! Go The Mighty Demons !!!!
  14. Neitz looks like he's slowly dropping weight this pre season. I wonder what plans DB has for him in 08 ?
