2025 Draft Report Card
Surprised they don't all read 'the dees are crying out for a key forward and didn't get one so they failed.' Also Fox footy tell us you use chapgpt to edit your writing — without telling us.

The 2025 AFL Draft Thread
People losing their mind over Pickett going a few picks before he was projected to in Cal's Phantom - to go to Roos. His stocks had obviously risen. Roos pick Dovaston instead. Could be a bit of Kozzy/Cody Weightman about it. I know who i'd rather have.

- AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Good enough to be one though. Especially in this draft- AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
I know plenty have gone into bat here but it literally says it as a disclaimer every power ranking. 'The final Form Guide will be released a week ahead of the draft. Remember, this is a ranking and not our mock draft on where players will be drafted – that will come in draft week.' Cals eye test and looking at stats, best ons, form, etc. Plenty of people have said clubs rankings are different to the media, and that media ranking doesn't always correlate to AFL. Cal nailed last year until Faull pick then it went pair shaped. JT must looking at who will become the next Bailey Fritsch ie Nairn.- Cameron Nairn
Yeah neither. I think JT must see some similarities to Fritsch who he would have tracked for a long time which is too good to pass up on.- Sam Grlj
All good. Comment is purely based on footage of his back half play. Some blokes will listen and take on feedback more than others. Which is important if he's playing a high risk run and gun game behind the ball. You'll get punished the other way if you cough it up- Sam Grlj
Is he coachable is going to be the biggest question with this kid. Needs to pick and choose when to run and take the game on and not do it with reckless abandon like he does sometimes in his highlights. Definitely has the line breaking and link up speed the modern game requires though.- Realistic 23 for 2026
My go at it. Going from little snippets of info along the way. I think Adams plays FB due to rumours dogs were into him. Need to give him an opportunity. They mentioned they believed CJ plays his best footy at HBF. I think Lever will get a crack at interceptor allowing Turner to go forward if his body is all good. Though I love Turner in that role. Otherwise he's back and JVR or Kentfield forward. AMW to get a crack at replacing McVee 🤞 his knee is alright. Langford could easily start as big bodied inside mid, though with Steele and Viney, I don't mind him on the wing. He and Culley to drift forward as the cross goal option. Langdon repurposed as a high forward connector. Heath as tall forward/back up ruck to prolong Gawn. Salem Adams Lever Bowey Petty Jiath Culley Windsor Langford Langdon Turner Chandler Fritsch Miochek Melksham Gawn Kozzy Viney AMW Lindsay Steele Rivers Heath Emer: From Tholstrup JVR Sparrow Kentfield TMc 1st rnd picks etc- AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
But JVR, Riv, Kolt, Kentfield, Adams and granted he was draft from SA, Kozi, all seem happy enough. JTs strategy to draft the best player usually works out. Turned 1 first rnd pick into 2 + a second rounder in LJ, and Judd a rookie into a second rounder. Farrow looks like he has a good head on his shoulders. Poise, class, good aerial game and decision making. Can win his own footy and physicality to go inside as well.- AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
First point agree. Need to target two guys who will be extended bench and putting pressure on minimum. Ball movement is the key to all. Last point why I've liked Robey. Though it might not be the yr for a guy like him with a fwd line of Melk, Mihocek and Fritsch, who I think will all play the whole season and prosper from better ball movement. Kozzy will be a mid imo so will need to draft energy like Dove and Pickett. Langford natural progression to mid but I don't mind him wing with Culley. Steele might allow this. With Viney, Windsor, Kozzy and Rivers midfield looks alright. All points not good for Kolt though. I still like him long-term but think he'll still be fringe.- AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
We'll win 10 games. Goody's game plan was outdated. If we draft well we're potentially replacing 3 best 23 with 5-6. Tracs a loss but we have a more even spread of contributors. Clarry and McVee are easily covered on last year's form. Sharp isn't on my extended bench.- Welcome to Demonland: Latrelle Sumner-Pickett
Good summation. No disrespect to the kid he looks a quality player but it sounds like we're being baited to use a higher pick on him. Clubs know he'll be a carrot to keep Kozzie happy, so others slip through.- Archie Ludowyke
Journos probably into them everyday. Probably throwing them a bone rather than give away their own position. They'd be chatting to players and managers regularly gauging other clubs interest. Would explain why Twomey is generally so accurate with Phantom- AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts

Heath can play that role for a couple years as fwd/back up ruck to help Max, before eventually taking over. JVR, Kentfield and Jeffo likely competing for one spot. Competition should be good for their development. We'll be getting mids and small fwds. Kalani can develop in this space as well. Tairon Ah Mu could be a good project player in this space as a later pick.- AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
Goes without saying you take these phantom drafts with a grain of salt. Looking beck through November ones last year clubs had us tied to Bo Allan, Murphy Reid and Armstrong. Most had Jobe Shanahan a couple picks later. The latter two slid whilst XL was mid teens and JT nailed it. Good chance he'll do similar with the Dove for our second pick. Depends if clubs are willing to slide which there is reportedly no indication of. If JT wants him you can be assured he'll be making inquiries big time. Works in our favour if WCE and Tiges are set with their picks as it'll undoubtably be easier to turn Essendon's heads to slide a pick or two.- AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
I've posted similar with complete confidence so we can be dog 💩 at this together 🤷 Harvey's going to bring those pick 6 numbers back towards the norm- AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
'The need for the Dees is pretty easy to see, KPP's at either end. Schubert looks like the best pure key forward in the draft, and one thing Melbourne could definitely use here.' Interesting take. No disrespect to this guy his analysis looks pretty good, but between this and fox footy's best 23 for us, I think it highlights how little insight a lot of external analysis is. Doubt this guy would know who Kentfield or Jed Adams are. I would have thought KPP's is the least of our problems atm, especially developing talls. Not the first time we've been linked to Schubert either unless i'm missing something. It's like last year when we were linked to Harry Armstrong. The bloke kicked 6 goals in 8 games this year. I'd say we'll give Jeffo, JVR and Kentfield another year to show they're up to it before drafting a key forward. Wouldn't mind getting Ah Mu late as a nod to the NGA if we want another tall. Anyone have any updates on him?- Farewell Clayton Oliver
I'd say they would've taken a F3 or far less and half May's salary off our books as well. Mays dismay would be the fact he's at the end of his career. He probably would've stormed out two years ago as well. Sounds like the dogs were into Adams. Adams will be fb and we would've been fine with May gone. The club wanted them both gone.- AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
That's the million dollar question and what I can see is dominating opinions throughout the thread. I understand the love for Grjl, comparisons to Butters and the desire to land an inside/outside mid. Is that over correcting though when we have Kossie and Windsor to play/grow into that role. I envisage X Lindsay will become our next Angus Brayshaw. Could play inside mid but is required across the wing or half back due to adaptability. I still think you need a couple who can go inside and get centre bounce and clearance ascendency at times. Viney and Steele will be gone in three years. That's why I see Robey learning as a HFF and growing into a mid/fwd role as perfect for list needs. Kolt is an interesting one. That's the role that he should probably be playing but hasn't shown enough for mine. From his junior highlights and watching him this year I gather he wants to be one of the 'it' guys. One of the leaders and teams best players, but is struggling with this in his transition to AFL. I think his ceiling will be more of a general fwd who can pinch hit in the middle like a Paul Chapman. I'd have him follow Melk around all preseason who was maligned at the Dons in his early career to improve his footy IQ.- AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
No insight but guessing he's the big bodied mid who the game is evolving past. The type who gets exposed by pace on defence. He's a class above at Coates league, but at 191cm what role does he play as a forward and how would he go against guys his size or bigger with better athleticism might be the knock. Might end up being the Murphy Reid of this draft though who had knocks for size and role.- AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Very good points. I've mentioned previously I could see J Lindsay as an understudy and eventual replacement to Salem. As Salem probably has at least two more seasons left, a mosquito fleet with Dovaston would be a more pressing list need I agree.- AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Yeah a lot to play out, but Grjl and Linsday being available at our sports per Cal would be a fantastic results despite my preferred agenda of trading up to get Robey. Tigers VFL had Grjl taking the kickouts and playing behind the ball, and looked a bit like McVee. I wonder if he could be purposed as a back pocket in his first year. Looks to have the wheels and agility to go with small forwards and would provide good rebound. Also between the two allow Rivers and Lindsay to get further afield. - AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
