Report from Clint Stanaway on twitter:- Glory be ... salvation is on its way. We cannot lose now that the facial hair has gone the way of the club doctor and the CEO before him.

A preview of the game on the VFL site - Bombers v Scorpions preview Worth going down to Windy Hill for nostalgic reasons and also to catch a look at the premises opposite the road from the ground which form the basis of so much of what's in the news in the sport of late.

We still don't know the full circumstances of this relationship between Dank and Bates. What if Bates went on a frolic of his own in seeking Dank's advice and failed to disclose any part of that to any other person at Melbourne whatsoever? There's no breakdown in governance ecause the best standards of governance might not catch this and it can happen in any organisation and, in modern times we've even seen it in otherwise well run governments. Redleg has a point in that regard. However, there is the issue of the leadership of the club accepting responsibility. Unfortunately, as we've already seen at the top levels of the AFL and at Essendon, this concept seems to have become redundant. The Bombers' off field leaders are surviving for the moment mainly because their team is performing so well on the field. Their time will come but at Melbourne at the moment there's nowhere to hide.

Bob, For the purposes of clarification, I want to stress that I don't condone telling lies to the AFL or anyone else although some might say that since the language of the AFL is all lies then at least in doing so, they're speaking the AFL's language. Of course, it's madness to mislead the AFL. But let's not conflate the issues here - I'm referring to the specific matter of misleading the members which is unforgivable.
-
Perhaps you need to read my opening paragraph. I'm not imputing guilt on the club for anything other than being complicit in misleading its members on this issue. I'm not interested in previous alleged indiscretions which may or may not have occurred or be part of various people's personal agendas or vendettas but this clearly crosses a red line as to how the club should be conducted.

When did Hazy enlighten us about withholding information about the club doctor's association with Dank after his job application was rejected? Anyway, I don't believe anybody has disputed the basic idea that boards need to be honest with their membership, have they? That's what I'm addressing here.

What will the next scandal/rumor be?

The revelations about communications between Stephen Dank and the Melbourne Club Doctor, Dr. Dan Bates over its supplements programme does not constitute proof of any breach by the club of ASADA and WADA guidelines. The club has issued a statement into revelations on the subject which was aired on last night's ABC 7.30 Report and can be read here. However, the response is totally unsatisfactory in that it does not address why members and supporters were misled about the club's association with Dank after the Essendon doping allegations came to light in February. At the time, the club informed the world that Dank had made an unsuccessful application for a position at the club. What we and apparently the AFL weren't told then was that an association nevertheless continued in some way through Dr. Bates which only came to an end when the Essendon bombshell was dropped. The withholding of this information from members and supporters is totally unacceptable and it is imperative that those responsible be relieved of their duties at the club as soon as practicable. While we can't be certain that the association between Dank and Bates is in any way responsible for the team's poor form to date this season, it would be fair to say that by "coming clean" and taking full responsibility, the powers that be at the club would set an example to the playing group of the respect their supporters, who can only stand by and watch the events unfold with increasing bewilderment, deserve from the club. Only if this is done, can the club expect their loyalty in return. And if there is any doubt about where the chain of responsibility ends, I direct you to the sign that once sat on the desk of United States President Harry S. Truman and read, "The Buck Stops Here".

Great to hear but Max doesn't have to be a cult hero ... just a good hardworking player who rises to the top of the tree among AFL ruckmen. It would make a big difference to our club if we could finally get one of our young blokes to fulfil their promise. [PROUD SPONSOR]

Now that she's retired, she has plenty of time for the CEO gig and furthermore, would make a great running partner for Redleg. I believe this is the big announcement that's going to be made at the club tomorrow. Redleg for Chairman and BC for CEO. There I've beaten Caro for the scoop of the week!

There have been some diabolical things happen to our club in recent years but there are two things for which we can all be thankful:- 1. That we avoided the temptation of appointing Kevin Sheedy as coach in 2007 and 2. That GWS wanted Tom Scully and took him away from us. I don't want anyone to run through him on Sunday. We don't want to lose players through suspension. Keeping him down to his current output would do just fine.

You could be onto something there ... a bit more like Aenid Blyton than Roman epic poetry.

Can what Max writes really be described as "novels"?

I have it on good authority that the bugler turned up sporting a beard (at least it was a 3-4 day growth) and the acting CEO took one look and sent him home.
-
Appreciate the thought H_T but given the bagging that our last half a dozen CEO's have received from the media and the public, I'm going to suggest that the club appoints a popular figure for the position who would be completely beyond criticism and who the usual suspects would think twice about before any back stabbing.I'm nominating Black Caviar for CEO.

Without a doubt, it saved us from an embarrassing triple figure loss. Who's the next scapegoat?

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

Quarter time at Subiaco and some of our form from last week seems to have rubbed off on the Bombers who are playing as if they were injected with heavy doses of Demon spirit in the past week. Losing 3 - 33. Jobe Watson has yet to get a kick and is on just nine supercoach points. Hurley struggling. Deserves to be dropped if he keeps this up. -
You do know what happened to JFK, don't you?

Well done six6six - I knew your comeback would come sooner rather than later.Hopefully, your pictures can chronicle some more happy times for the club soon.

For once I agree with you. It's time to move on.Whatever anyone might think about Cam, he certainly handled himself with more class over his resignation than many of the posters on here. Cheerio and all the best in the future.

I'm reflecting on the club historically since the mid 60's starting with the sacking of Norm Smith in 1965. We've had a series of well documented stoushes between factions and the instability has affected us enormously on and off the field and it's damaged many careers along the way. Sometimes the coaches and players have been right in the middle of it, sometimes they've remained outside and at other times they've been damaged collaterally. Are there factions within the current board? - not that I know of but we're all aware that various groups have had agendas over the past few years and we won't ever more forward without unity. It's no coincidence that it all started in 1965 when our greatest ever coach was stabbed in the back.

Perhaps the title to the thread and the words of the song attached to the article might give you a clue?

Now don't sit on the fence Redleg. Tell us what you think about the blood flowing.
