  1. The best proof of the proposition is that the other clubs are even frightened about us getting a priority pick and threatening a mutiny against the commission's authority if we get one. This, despite the fact that we qualify on all counts for assistance and if it's not given, it wipes assistance off the map in the future as far the AFL clubs are concerned.
  2. You would think the elephants have left the room by now. We've been punished already for past indiscretions. This is a decision for the here and now and for the future. It's irrelevant what club's involved; be it us, Carlton or Hawthorn. There's no need for the club to be punished for bad recruiting in 2003, 2006 or 2009. The AFL has laws about assistance and our application's dated 2013.
  3. The reason the AFL is run by a commission and not by the individual clubs is exactly for this. There's a rule on the AFL's books that allows for draft assistance to clubs with poor records. The AFL has to consider that rul on the basis of the here and now and not upon anything else. Quite frankly, if the clubs can have a say in the way the AFL is run then I say scrap the prospective compensation to Hawthorn and Collingwood if Buddy and Daisy are taken as free agents. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
  4. If Caroline Wilson didn't call for Dustin Martin to be sacked as a result of the prisoners salute then there's obviously nothing wrong with his behaviour.
  5. I think the site is suffering from exhaustion after a long week of speculation about the coach. I think I'm about to snooze off myself.
  6. The entire family (three generations) paid up as of today. It was always going to happen anyway but the email I received today prompted me to attention. If we can show the numbers are coming back, who knows? The AFL might even give us one of those prime game time fixtures like a Friday night or anything but lunchtime on Mother's Day.
  7. Good thing that Michael Clarke decided to hang around for the ODI's.
  8. It's all well and good speculating about the Roos succession plan already but what happened to the great football tradition of taking things one week at a time? I'm more interested ATM in who we retain and who we recruit before going on to who we're going to play in round 1 of the NAB Cup or the practice match series next year.
  9. Heard him interviewed and watched some vision of this kid and if we can find a way to draft him, I would not hesitate to call out his name anywhere outside the top 5.
  10. Plough stuffed up with his draft order by giving Essendon pick #9. In reality, Adelaide should be at #8 between Brisbane and North Melbourne. The Kangaroos will take Luke McDonald at #9. Unless they trade up, Essendon won't be seen until halfway through the third round. Plough's improver is tall Northern Knight midfielder Marcus Bontempelli who comes in at the expense of Dom Sheed. I actually like the look of him:- 1. GWS TOM BOYD (Eastern Ranges) 2. Melbourne JAMES AISH (South Australia) 3. St. Kilda JOSH KELLY (Sandringham Dragons) 4. W Bulldogs MATT SCHARENBERG (South Australia) 5. Gold Coast JACK BILLINGS (Oakleigh Chargers) 6. West Coast BEN LENNON (Northern Knights) 7. Brisbane MARCUS BONTEMPELLI (Northern Knights) 8. North Melbourne LUKE MCDONALD (Oakleigh Chargers F/S) 9. Essendon MATT CROUCH (North Ballarat) 10. GWS DARCY GARDNER (Geelong Falcons) Bontempelli is a cousin of Nick dal Santo and was featured on the TAC Cup: Future Stars programme and looks a gem.
  11. The smell of melting plastic is wafting through my neighbourhood.
  12. I believe that, to his eternal credit, Jimmy recognised the lie when Scully told it. It's not a matter of whether the kid was sitting on an offer he couldn't refuse or whether we were or were not adequately compensated in the end; it's a matter of ethical conduct. For that, we're all entitled to our views and I have no qualms about casting the first and last stones. Not at Scully himself (although he bears some responsibility) but at his advisers, his family and those at the AFL who made it happen.
  13. I continue to be amazed that Nathan Fyfe was taken at pick # 20 in the AFL National Draft and that we had four chances to pick him but took $cully, Trengove, Gysberts and Tapscott ahead of him. Mind boggling.
  14. We all know the best way to shut the naysayers up is by performing out on the field. In the meantime, the fact that the club brand is constantly in the news should be a positive in terms of attracting new sponsorships and the association with Paul Roos and his standing in the football community can't do anything other than help us secure additional sponsorship dollars. And now that all the election argy bargy is behind us I'm told there will be more positivity in the economy after so many months of uncertainty. Time for sponsors to get on board.
  15. Ominous sign for the day when this is being advertised on the EBAY site.
  16. Tell that to the AFL and tell it to the bikie gangs who the ACC was investigating when it found a link between organised crime, importation of banned substances and the two main football codes in this county. Sadly, its still the $ that rules.
  17. As we've seen so far in all three finals, coaches definitely can make a difference. Perhaps it's because Freo are more out of sight but I've never rated their list. I thought Geelong was a class above. Yet the Dockers answered every challenge and are now in a good position to make it through to the grand final. Ken Hinkley was superb tonight against Collingwood and outcoached Buckley who has yet to prove himself given that he has a strong list to work with. I'm not saying we'll make as dramatic a rise as Port Adelaide under Roos but we're not far behind where they were 12 months ago.
  18. Odds from www.sportsbet.com.au Casey Scorpions $2.60 Werribee $1.48 ($1.90 Line is 13.5pts)
  19. The value of having a good coach. Fremantle's performance should not be lost on Melbourne supporters.
  20. Having watched him play a few games for the Lions this year, I think we'd be better off with Moloney staying at Brisbane. He has his limitations and wouldn't add what we need in the midfield which is hard running both ways.
  21. At the church at the end of our street where it's always been but you have to be quick if you don't want to get an ugly one.
  22. I'm at the polling booth and the queue's a mile long. I think someone mentioned something about a sex party. Politics ain't what it used to be!
  23. Hawks off to a flyer and have to be heavy favourites for the flag. I think today's big question is whether the government will fall before the opening bounce of the Collingwood v Port Adelaide game?
  24. Like to enter the tipping competition but haven't the slightest clue about the teams other than that San Fran will win the Superbowl. Bring it on. BTW Does anyone know who Paul Roos supports?
