  1. I turned up at Gosch's Paddock bright and early this morning and nobody was there? I think 2014 must start tomorrow or the day after.
  2. Right and bad luck for us that they ran the grand final sprint after the AFL made its decision not to give us a priority pick.
  3. When coaches develop teams, they start with the backline. We have a good start with the likes of Tom, Colin Garland & Chip Frawley.
  4. The occupant of 8 - 10 is his team's best to half time and bar for his three missed shots and a couple of free kicks, he's been fine. A terrific player who will become a star of the game if he's not already.
  5. Ridiculous. What could be more important than a brand of footy dominated by the Demons since 2006?
  6. Yeah, getting lots of the ball but not very effective ATM.
  7. He turned up at a meeting of supporters at the Bentleigh Club some years ago and announced he was a supporter.
  8. His second shot was no better. Two shots OOB and now a free against Hodge. Hmmm, wonder if anyone any good lives at No. 4?
  9. Shocking kick for goal by the former occupant of 8 - 10 Elliott Street early in the game.
  10. Right Dangerfield won it. The race was run half an hour ago. The Russian's about to cross the finishing line ... now.
  11. I don't mind Robbo's yobbo style but it's the content (or lack thereof) of what he says that stamps him as an average journo. Still, the chemistry of the mix between him and Gerard Whateley provides the entertainment. The pair work sometimes but they've really been exposed on substantive issues like the Essendon peptides saga. The Age team (including Wilson) led by their investigative journos Baker and McKenzie (who mainly do crime) with input from Roy Masters of the SMH, completely exposed the HUN and its chief football writer Robbo. Caro just doesn't cover herself in glory when she uses her journalism to further her own personal crusades and conversely, when she appears to be the megaphone for the Richmond Football Club.
  12. I suppose that makes him slightly less than a 50/50 chance of coaching next year?
  13. Why does our choice have to be limited to two teams? I'm already thinking about 2014.
  14. I never held it against Cale Morton that he failed to kick on after being selected at pick 4 in the 2007 AFL National Draft but, sure as hell, I'm not impressed about the fact that he failed to tell the MFC recruiting people about the kid who lived next door to him at 8 - 10 Elliott Street, Lake Grace. Two years after we drafted Morton, Nat Fyfe who is my favourite footballer outside Melbourne's list, was taken by Fremantle at pick 20 after we took $cully (1), Trengove (2), Gysberts (11) and Tapscott (18). Damn! Nat Fyfe has come along way from Lake Grace to the AFL's biggest stage
  15. I think you have to hand it to Essendon for trying. They're under siege over the drug issue and even more particularly are being run by the wrong person and idiotically, announced Hird's reappointment virtually effective from round 23 next year come what may. Nevertheless, facing the loss of Crameri, they're going out to find a replacement that will cost them nothing in terms of draft picks to shore up their list. They know there's a strong possibility of them being in strife if the infraction notices start coming and they're doing something about it. In the worst case scenario, Colin might have some interesting teammates in the event of the Bombers losing the dozen or so players to the ASADA investigation. I suppose he'll have to take that into account when considering their offer.
  16. In what way and by who? It's funny that people have made statements to this effect from time to time but I've discussed Liam's situation with a few players and I got the impression that they were supportive and understanding. Would the MFC have continued to maintain the contact through Craig Lees (who I understand incidentally, is leaving the club) if this was a problem with the players? As to a comeback to the AFL I agree that it's the longest of long shots although the use of the final rookie spot would not be a great cost to a club (Nathan Stark played only six games for Casey's development league team this year). Liam would need to get his head in the right space in a very short period of time and he would need to convince a club of his rehabilitation and willingness to accept some strict conditions including the undergoing of a mentorship. However, I fear there are too many issues that need to be addressed, many of them outside the realm of an AFL club. A great dream though ...
  17. Misses out on selection after the Whitecross injury so perhaps might be looking for security and better prospects. Definitely worth asking the question.
  18. OK, so we all know about his deficiencies including lack of leg speed and the fact that his delivery doesn't match that of Sam Mitchell who's also no speedster. I agree with those assessments and don't see him as a long term answer to our midfield woes where we need a massive infusion of class. But the question still hangs in the air about why he wasn't given a game late in the season after he was elevated off the rookie list? This was especially so after that game against the Bendigo Gold when, despite suffering a knock and coming off the ground in the third quarter and then being rested for a good part of the last, he still got an outstanding 51 touches. You could say it was the poor opposition but we had other midfielders on the ground that day and they were all overshadowed by Magner. I can't see how it would have hurt to have had his bigger body in the engine room at Adelaide or during the second quarter against the Dogs at Etihad where we're swamped in the stoppages at the centre of the ground. It wasn't as if the club was going places at that particular time of the year.
  19. That's one thing about the Danihers. When it came to such things, they were brutally honest and down to earth. Joe wasn't part of the Bombers' 2012 programme so Anthony isn't speaking out of anger at the personal damage that might have been done to his son like Sarah, the mother of the unnamed Bomber who spoke out on radio (there was nothing wrong with that BTW). I reckon it's out of genuine concern and feeling for his old club and many of Joe's teammates who face trying times ahead. It wouldn't surprise if Joe follows the tradition of some others in the family and ends up playing for two clubs, the other being the Swans.
  20. Add Kyle Cheney (not quite emergency but almost) and you have a very persuasive argument linking us to today's Dawks. So much so that I've changed my tip and am now selecting the Dockers to win.
  21. So Prince William wore West Perth gear at the wedding? I actually thought at the time that it would make a good alternative strip for the Dees.
  22. Seized by French Customs when he arrived at the airport. Last I spoke to him, he was muttering something like "damn frogs!" under his breath. If I were you I'd stay out of his way when he gets back.
  23. Well done to Rohan Welsh who has been reappointed coach of the Scorpions.
  24. Good questions and there are no guarantees that Dank hasn't destroyed or tampered with the documentary evidence. However, the evidence in this case also happens to be evidence in an investigation by the ACC in respect of which Dank actually was interviewed at length a year ago. I don't know what evidence he gave and whether the ACC had access to his records or whether, if it did, the ACC may have shared evidence with ASADA and Dank would have to be very careful if he has harboured ideas about tampering with evidence in a criminal enquiry. Dank's other problem would be whether others have some of the documentation by way of duplicate documents so destroying what he has is not going to solve anything for him. In short, messing around with evidence in a criminal enquiry can lead to substantial complications as if Dank's life isn't already complicated.
  25. I'm not entirely sure but I don't think Dank can be compelled to answer questions and if he doesn't show then the fine would apply. I suppose he might be prepared to allow himself to be bankrupted if he really wants to avoid giving evidence but that could open up a real can of worms for him. However, under the new powers, Dank does have to produce his documentation and that could be enough. Bear in mind the rules that apply in dealing with the WADA Code differ from sovereign law, there is an ACC investigation and government is keen to uphold our standing in the sporting world. ASADA doesn't have to operate to anyone else's timelines. They eventually got Armstrong in the USA despite no positive drug tests. The appropriate authorities will eventually get the offenders in the AFL and NRL and at their own pace which is frustrating for the rest of the world that has things like the trade and free agency period to concern itself with.
