Liam Jurrah's attempt at a comeback
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
These games really have everything. A dog on the ground just forced a miss from a Tiwi player and the difference is now back to 12 points as the teams go goal for goal. -
Liam Jurrah's attempt at a comeback

Wish I was there but you can follow the game (not vision) on the Northern Territory News website - www.ntnews.com.au. Get on to sports -> AFL then click onto NTFL Live. You get a bit of a description from their reporter and can log on and ask questions. Here's a comment from Grey Morris, the commentator at Bathurst Island -

A Liam Jurrah mark in the goalsquare gives him his third and reduces the lead to 18 points. -
Liam Jurrah's attempt at a comeback
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
Delisted GC Suns player Liam Patrick (a cousin of Jurrah) is playing for Wanderers and was just penalised for grabbing his cousin around the neck. KIck went into the man on the mark (no suggestion of any fueding here tho ) Aussie is getting touches but not influential and the Tiwis have fallen four goals behind at the 22 minute mark of the second term. -

Liam Jurrah's attempt at a comeback

Liam Jurrah, playing at CHF, kicked his first goal for Tiwi early on but his team is trailing by 5 points at the 20 minute mark. -
You should check your dates then.

Fox did televise it last year and for a couple of years before that - they just made a poor fist of it. I'm sure they'll do it again but if they do I'll record it and listen to SEN instead.

The one you have now is perfect. Davros is one of television's great villains and is about to celebrate his 50th anniversary.

Fox Footy has telecast the draft in recent years. I remember watching it last year and recall that it was a very ordinary production with the presenters concentrating on a small number of the players drafted, having a limited knowledge of the players on offer and spending too much time talking about themselves and not the draft. Quite frankly, if that's the best Fox Footy can do for the sport which it's supposedly dedicated to, I'd rather listen to SEN which provides a better coverage anyway. BTW, how many days to go until the non telecast?

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Whispering_Jack replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Only that I don't think it's started yet. -
The conventional wisdom surrounding our first draft pick seems to have always been around us selecting a midfielder. Hence, we hear about Freeman with his athleticism and bursts of pace or Salem with his slick delivery off both sides in the middle. But what happens with the philosophy of best player available and a player like Scharenberg is available when it comes to your pick? He's been touted to go as high as number 2 and is a utility who has played mainly in defence and mainly very well. He has size and strength and it's said he has the ability to go into the middle. An interesting dilemma which could come into play if the clubs ahead of us go for the more favoured mids and one of them like Brisbane takes a KPF.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

Asada hits dead-end with Gazelle. It's been three months since ASADA was supposed to have been given some teeth in terms of interviewing people to help collect evidence in its investigations. It seems to me that the process is either flawed or inadequate or ASADA itself is incompetent. Whilst ASADA doesn't appear to have any time limits to complete its work, this is starting to look like a bit of a farce when they can't even get close to Dank's underling, let alone Dank himself. Meanwhile, ASADA Chief John Fahey continues to advocate for patience. James Hird might still be targeted by ASADA -
I think he might have said Ben Lennon but I'm reading things a little differently. I get the feeling that much will depend on who Brisbane select because there are some suggestions that the Lions might go for a KP forward which might well change things dramatically for our pick.

I don't know if there is an official session on Monday but if so, I would be interested in how Max Gawn is travelling. This will hopefully be Max's first full and uninterrupted pre season and given his past history of injuries, he will benefit enormously if that happens. The consequence of having so much time missing from the track was that he often didn't have enough in the tank to see out games at AFL level but in the more easy paced VFL, his potential as a ruckman who could do damage when going forward was there for all to see. This preseason will be important for all of our players but none more so than Max. I've heard that he's already been working hard and I'd be keen to hear how he goes on Monday or whenever. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH
Whispering_Jack replied to e25's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't know if it's been mentioned here or elsewhere but Billy has been included in the prestigious 2013/4 AIS/AFL Academy Squad along with a number of other highly youngsters who will no doubt figure predominantly in draft calculations next year. In addition, he's been included in Bigfooty on Knightmare's 2014 Power Rankings in tenth place. Here's his top 10 and get used to the names which will appear in phantom drafts in the not to distant future. 1. Peter Wright (VIC - KPF/Ruck) 2. Patrick McCartin (VIC - KPF) 3. Jarrod Pickett (WA - Fwd) 4. Alec Waterman (WCE WA - Mid - F/S) 5. Peter Bampton (SA Mid) 6. Jake Lever (VIC - Def) 7. Hugh Goddard (VIC - KPF) 8. Clem Smith (WA - Util) 9. Christian Petracca (VIC - Fwd) 10. Billy Stretch (Melb SA - F/S) -
Liam Jurrah's attempt at a comeback
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
I think we've been through all the argy bargy about Liam, his rise and fall and his troubles over the past two years. The bloke's just trying to pick up the pieces and get his life in order. I understand he's been cleared to play his first game with the Tiwi tomorrow. Former Melbourne forward Liam Jurrah set to reunite with Austin Wonaeamirri at Tiwi Bombers Why don't we just wish him well in that and leave him be? I'll be looking for the results and supporting him with the hope that he and his community can all find some peace and contentment. -
True but that probably resembles all of us who post here, particularly if he believes he looks anything like the bloke in that picture.

Whispering_Jack replied to Demon Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm a tough judge but I did qualify my comments by saying they were based on what I saw in half a game and his team was copping a caning. However, I described it as I saw it - a young bloke in his first game playing against a top class midfield. I'm sure he didn't make it into an AFL list without some talent or footy smarts but he needs to show he knows where to position himself around packs, when and how to go into them and how to work with his teammates to extract that footy. Nobody in the depleted Docker midfield was able to do this and they had an all time low inside 50 count of one in the third quarter so it was an unusual situation for a first gamer. At Melbourne he'll have some good coaches to teach him the correct way to go about things and I'm sure he'll have opportunities to learn but I repeat that on what I saw, I'm not excited in the same way as I am about the prospect of seeing Dom Tyson, Bernie Vince or, for that matter Daniel Cross in our midfield next year. That doesn't mean I'm bagging the kid - he's just a bit further down the pecking order and needs to prove himself first. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JAY KENNEDY-HARRIS

Thankfully, there are not many grassy knolls around AFL grounds these days. -
Yes please ... if his name's Jarman then it's about time even if he's not related to the Jarman brothers! I can remember coming home from work in the mid 80s and picking up the afternoon paper (yes, we had them in those days) and reading about Melbourne's interest in a young gun centreman from North Adelaide named Andrew Jarman. In the VFL national draft we picked his brother Andrew at #55 but neither of them came to us and the rest is history. Somehow Hawthorn convinced Darren to come for a few years before he went back home to join Andrew in the new Adelaide Crows. It's not far fetched to think that had we convinced those two to cross the border and come to us then our teams of the late 80s and the first half of the 90s might have given the flag a shake. Jarman Impey sounds good to me. Perhaps with Dom Barry they might form a dangerous combination at the feet of our tall brigade on the forward line?
