WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JAMES HARMES
Whispering_Jack replied to Arrow's topic in Melbourne Demons
Harmes' double dream comes true -
Revealed tonight at Wongs: MFC's secret weapon that will catapult the team up the ladder in 2014!
-
I must say I was expecting us to recruit a key defender of the 194cm/196cm variety partly by way of insurance in the case of any drama with James Frawley who becomes a free agent in 2014. I wonder if it means we have a measure of confidence in our ability to come to terms with James over a new contract which is something we couldn't have expected in the tumultuous atmosphere that prevailed in the first half of this season. On Georgiou, I agree that his selection fulfills a need we've had for some time and, if he's able to carry out that nullifying role, he will be a welcome addition. Of course, he's a rookie and we can only elevate him in the first half of 2014 if there's a long term injury to a primary list player so I'm not that certain I want to see him playing for the Dees any time soon.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Whispering_Jack replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not quite reality but a couple of our players are likely to come under scrutiny because of an alleged connection between Dank and one of our club doctors (Bate) who held the position for a brief time. From reports I've read the doctor prescribed a cream that is freely available from chemists on the recommendation of Dank. We don't know if the player ever used the cream but there is a chance that he might be in some strife if a case is made out against him. We simply don't know enough about the facts at this stage. As far as I'm aware Dank and supplements had nothing to do with the departure of Andrew Daff and another long standing doctor or that any other MFC officials or staff other than Dr. Bate was involved. Nevertheless, if we're found to have breached rules, either on a governance level or through use of banned substances, we'll have to cop our whack and let's hope we don't behave as disfracefully as <redacted>, <redacted> and <redacted>. -
Training - Wednesday 27th November, 2013
Whispering_Jack replied to inRooswetrust's topic in Melbourne Demons
I reckon it might be a good day for you to get down to training tomorrow, inRooswetrust. Warm weather, an open training session and a chance to catch up with some former team mates and opponents from junior footy days. You might also keep an eye out for Satyriconhome who usually lobs in to catch up with training. Distinctive looking character who fits more into the Woodstock/Isle of Wight generation but that was before your time. I believe he likes to have a chat with the players from time to time. It's also the day our playing list is finalised and, going on one report, another of your ex team mates could be added to our list via the rookie draft - Alex Spencer. I've read peoples' reports from training with interest although there have been some strange interpretations about the subtle changes being made this year. This article from the Age sets the picture straight as far as the development of the team's training regimen is concerned: Demons hoping to turn up heat with midfielders This is consistent with what Mark Neeld and Dave Misson were saying was happening last year and what would happen in the third year under the man who oversaw the physical development of what became Paul Roos' premiership team of 2005.We're still a long way from challenging for a flag but its comforting to know that we're in the hands of people who know what they're doing. The big plus is that our recruiting to date has concentrated on securing the mix of players who can improve us in the area where we've struggled the most in the past decade. I hope that I can make it down to at least one session before the break (doubtful with my current work schedule) and a couple in the new year when the players return. In the meantime, we're in the hands of those who have the time and do provide us with those fantastic training reports. Keep them up please! -
Liam Jurrah's attempt at a comeback
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
At various times over the past months 95 year-old Mandela has been in a critical condition in hospital and at one stage, it was said he was in a vegetative state. But he was released from hospital a couple of months ago and while he's no doubt still crook, I think he might be able to talk and if he could, I reckon he would be encouraging Liam to persevere with his efforts to recover from what he's gone through and what he's put others through. In many ways, he would be speaking from experience. -

Our rookie draft picks:- Melbourne 2 19 35 50 Source: Tigers eye delisted Lion Banfield Melbourne is said to be interested in another Sandringham Dragon, Alex Spencer ~ from South Metro Junior Football League website. There are some mixed messages from the club with some indications that we were looking for more midfielders, Jason Taylor saying we would continue to go for young players and others suggesting we are interested in Joel Tippett. A HIGHWAY OF DEMONS - CHAPTER ELEVEN
Whispering_Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not sure but there's an outside chance that Timothy Leary (not related to Noel Leary who played 19 games from 1970 to 1973) might get a run in a future chapter based on the lyrics of a song from the musical in which he gets a mention. Can anyone name the musical and the song I'm referring to? -

Liam Jurrah's attempt at a comeback
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
Liam's slim hopes of being rookie drafted were dealt a blow last Sunday when the AFLNT bowed to the potential dangers associated with Tropical Cyclone Alessia by cancelling matches in all grades in Darwin and on the Tiwi Islands. It looks like he will have to wait till next year for another chance and by then he'll be 26 years of age. -
What is not, is not. BTW: Additional takers accepted up until the completion of tomorrow's rookie draft; and I assume the same rules that apply to this thread apply to any conversation during tomorrow night's meal i.e. No T$ No B$?
