  1. Another sensational article by Wilson ASADA scandals at Cronulla Sharks and Essendon Bombers are dark and Dank affairs
  2. Poor old Chip must have been under some duress writing this.
  3. Hasn't anyone told you that size doesn't matter?
  4. Have you considered that there's no guarantee yet that we won't be one of the teams with a top 2 pick?
  5. LOrdy, I hope he keeps me on in some capacity
  6. I've been watching this kid and the more I see, the more I like ~ Eastern Ranges star Christian Petracca is leaving nothing standing in his path on the way to success.
  7. About as much chance as there is of the club inviting Predergast to do some more recruiting.
  8. On this day fifty years ago, Melbourne faced the daunting prospect of venturing out to Kardinia Park to take on the reigning premiers and, in front of a crowd of 33,761, the team triumphed by 21 points. With six games to go before the finals, the Demons were now on top of the ladder on percentage and established as flag favourites. Melbourne 2.1.13 6.5.41 7.7.49 10.15.75 Geelong 3.7.25 3.7.25 7.10.52 7.12.54 THE TEAM B: Neil Crompton Bob "Tassie" Johnson Don Williams HB: Tony Anderson Brian Roet Brian Leahy C: Graeme Watson "Hassa" Mann Frank "Bluey" Adams HF: Bryan Kenneally Ray Groom Barrie Vagg F: Graeme Jacobs Barry Bourke Ken Emselle FOLL: Graham Wise Ron Barassi John Townsend 19/20: Peter McLean David Robbie Goals Ron Barassi 3 Ken Emselle Graeme Jacobs 2 Barry Bourke John Townsend Graeme Watson Best Tony Anderson Brian Dixon Ken Emselle Ron Barassi Brian Roet Graeme Watson The Cats wasted a good start with their inaccuracy kicking with the wind in the opening term and the Demons took full advantage when their turn came kicking 4.4 to nothing in the second. Geelong fought back to take a small lead at the last break but it wasn't enough and Melbourne, led by Ron Barassi at his brilliant best, stormed home to take the points.
  9. He was named in both the senior and development league teams last week but missed out on the main game. Judging by the MFC Casey report, he should be right to go against Bendigo Gold. This is probably Bendigo's last chance for a win in the VFL before it makes its exit, so poorly has Casey been playing lately. I have a theory that it relates to the fact that Casey is being instilled with the same defensive style as is happening at Melbourne. We've seen how hard it is to get a young team to learn this style at AFL level but it must be a lot harder when half your team is made up of young lighter bodied part timers, some of who have hardly had a previous season. And here's a preview from the Bendigo perspective ~ http://www.bendigoadvertiser.com.au/story/2411324/footy-hq-with-bendigo-gold-coach-aussie-jones-video/?cs=140
  10. Point taken. Probably explains the productivity of our high half forward flankers this season Perhaps someone could explain why is it so?
  11. That's exactly the point. Dank's response was a cop out. There has been nothing to prevent him from coming out and telling the truth about the nature of the drugs he injected into the players. The fact that he chooses this particular answer strongly suggests to me that he only told the truth on TB4 to Age journo Nick McKenzie when he didn't know it was S2.
  12. An innovation you might wish to suggest on your return to the management of the Gat?
  13. If you're not a runner then the hbf is the last place you're going to play in the modern game as it's played by the better teams.
  14. BB - your stock standard line whenever you respond to someone with who you disagree seems to be that they've missed the point. Now, I'm pretty sure that the point you were making was that Wilson wrote "another sensational article" and that "she is in a class of her own with this sort of stuff" (your words). For someone to be in a class of their own as an op ed writer, they have to be original, clever and accurate and IMO this article demonstrates none of those attributes. She's very good at writing in rapier-like style and at trashing people (rightly or wrongly) when she has an agenda which she did against Cameron Schwab where it was very personal as I believe it happens to be with Essendon and Hird. That was why I cited the Cheap Seats article (AOB rightly pointed out the author's an Essendon sop) which I prefaced by stating "I don't necessarily accept all of the arguments put here ...", the point being that on the Essendon doping scandal there are propagandists operating on all sides being fed all manner of different information and misinformation and that Wilson is no less a media whore than is Mark Robinson or Chip Le Grand (granted she has a bit more class than that duo). The final thing is the point (at least I think you're trying to make a point) where you ask why I read her articles. The fact is I like being informed and reading different viewpoints and I think people who only read that with which they agree are narrow-minded idiots. In the case of the article you cited as being "sensational" I was looking for something new and original on a subject that's of interest to me. I got none of that from Wilson who was simply expressing in a slightly different way the views I had heard and read elsewhere on a number of occasions. And quite frankly if, as you say, the debate and discussion I cause by my comments are "exactly what she's after" then she's certainly not in the ball park of good journalism. Rather, she's no better than the Robinson's and the Whateley's who, on this issue have completely sold out on their profession.
  15. Back with a vengeance Bub:-Shannon Byrnes (foot) – season Daniel Cross (fibula) – 3-4 weeks Michael Evans (AC joint/shoulder) – 4-6 weeks Jesse Hogan (back) – 3-4 weeks Jayden Hunt (back) – 3-4 weeks Max King (medial ligament sprain) – 2 weeks Jake Spencer (ankle) – season Jimmy Toumpas (acute appendicitis) – 4-6 weeks Jack Trengove (foot) – season
  16. I don't necessarily accept all of the arguments put here but the gist of the article is right on the button. Wilson's article wasn't what some people think it's cooked up to be and the fact that her attack was scathing doesn't make it original, clever or even close to the mark ~ FOR CAROLINE WILSON, THIS TIME IT’S VERY PERSONAL
  17. To be fair to Caro and Barrett, they're at least trying. On the other hand, Robbo, Chip Le Grand and a few others should be embarrassed about their work and I read a real stinker today from John Ralph that I wouldn't use for toilet paper.
  18. Brazil just had it's own 186! The coach should leave the country.
  19. Mitch Marsh scored a double century for Australia A v India A yesterday combining with young wicket keeper Sam Whiteman (174) to help get their team out of trouble. These blokes could be on the test scene in the not too distant future.
  20. Congratulations on doing the honourable thing and refusing to betray a confidence. Too few people understand what that means these days. I think GWS made a mistake using their first pick on Boyd when they already had Cameron and Patton but he needs to be there for at least the two years of his contract. From our perspective, we would obviously have the draft pick available to accommodate GWS if Frawley did a runner but Paul Roos has already made it clear he's after midfielders.
  21. I understand that the reason McLachlan didn't come out nd speak on this issue earlier is that he was away on holiday. I've often been critical of things done by AFL CEO's but if this is true, the media (and not just Wilson) owe McLachlan an apology.
  22. Does anybody believe a word of what that person says?
  23. We won only 2 games in 2013 and were knocked back. They've won a game more. I personally think they should get assistance but the precedent from last year rules it out. Melbourne's case, based on 8 years of poor results is another thing altogether. If we're out, it's purely political and not to do with the merits of any application we might want to make.
  24. Gillon McLachlan ends his silence ~ AFL boss Gillon McLachlan backs top medico Peter Harcourt
  25. I'll bite. The article she wrote expresses most of the sports world's feelings but there's nothing new or original in what she says in it and people like Michaelangelo Rucci and Patrick Smith (and numerous internet pundits) have beaten her to the punch. Her editor has finally been honest enough to succumb to the notion that wnen she writes opinion articles, it should correctly be labelled "comment". I made the point in a post above that because she might happen to be right on this issue it doesn't validate the large body of critical assessment of her writing that is covered by this thread. Moreover, she attacks Essendon for doing what every organisation has a right to do (and in the case of Hird - every person) - to defend itself in a court of law if it feels aggrieved. I believe that Essendon has been advised it has a valid case which requires the support of properly presented evidence. I happen to disagree that the case has merit but Wilson doesn't address this at all. I don't accept that her article is either sensational, original or in a class or her own in the context of "fantastic" articles because others beat her to the punch in writing probably the easiest story that can confront a journalist.
