AFL National Draft 2014 Pick 40
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is from Luke McAlister's Phantom Draft I think it might have been first issued around the time when some of the FA compensations were going through so I made some minor adjustments:- -
If this happens we do have what is effectively first pick in the PSD (FWIW) Saints want Membrey to start pre-season training early

AFL National Draft 2014 Pick 53
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks for that jabberwocky. Goodyear looks the type of player you would never get tyred of watching. -
There's a chance that we might use this pick to upgrade Nev Jetta and keep a pick up our sleeves for the PSD if there's an option available there. However, if we decide to pick a player at this range this is what we might expect:- I know very little of Goodyear but by the size and description he looks a handy pick up at this range.

The speculation about draft selections is always interesting at this time of year. Last year, our first pick was number 9 which generated plenty of discussion. Our second selection then was number 40 which this year is our third pick. We took Jay Kennedy-Harris with 40 in 2013. Previously, Luke Parker of the Swans was taken with the selection so we know you can pick up talent in this region and I did this exercise last year of looking at the more recognised phantom draft aficionados to see if we could generate a bit of love for pick 40. This year, pick 40 is elevated a little by the fact that there are a few more father-son and academy selections ahead of it meaning less choices leading up to the selection and because pick 38 is an academy selection, I've chosen 37 and 39-41 and 43 in the selected range. We are taking Billy Stretch with pick 42. First cab off the rank is Knightmare;- I believe there's more detail to come from Knightmare and I will post these later. Touk Miller is a tough little customer who gets a lot of the footy but he's naturall not the elite A grade midfielder we might get with # 2 or 3.

The difference between Picks 23 & 40
Whispering_Jack replied to The Stigga's topic in Melbourne Demons
Who knows? Perhaps the recruiting people believe the player who they would choose next is flying under the radar a bit and is likely to be available at pick 40 anyway. -
There's no need for a thread about an individual poster, particularly one who has in the past gotten things right. You can make your own judgement in future about what to believe and now, let's just move on. Thanks

Off to his third club. Adelaide. Good luck Fetta ...

Oops - Jack Trengove

Done and dusted ~ this thread will close later today and a number of others either closed or shifted to the main board so that this board will be left to further drafting either by delisted free agency, the main draft, the PSD and the rookie draft. The Dangerfield thread will no doubt continue for another 12 months in some shape or form.

Let's pat ourselves on the back Demonlanders. We and we alone, put a stop to whatever they had planned. People power wins in the end!!! By the way, what exactly did we put a stop to?

Clearly a blatant attempt to sabotage Demonland!!!! -
NAB Trade Radio News reports that it's Deadline Day at Etihad Stadium. Will Ryder get to Port Adelaide? Or will the GWS come late with an offer to the Bombers with their vast array of draft picks? The Saints say pick 1 is still on the table, while the Hawks are sweating on several of their youngsters potentially moving clubs. WJ - I'm totally traded out and off north to get away from it all. With my luck, Garry Junior will be on my flight. I'll convince him to play for Melbourne and the flight will land after the 2pm deadline.

It's always worthwhile coming back to this thread from time to time to see how certain players were looked upon at the start of the year before the draft manouevring began. With the regard to the Prospectus 25 some of them have already been taken as father/son or academy selections, some remain high on the radar and a couple have dropped off. Interesting.
-
Despite their need for tall forwards, the Saints have announced that they won't be trading pick 1 and their likely selection is Perracca. Make of that what you will given that we've already seen a couple of 360 degree turns by clubs this week. Josh Mahoney has stated the club won't be trading 2 & 3 and, after GWS claimed three of the next four picks, it's unlikely that they would need to trade to improve just one spot. It's Brayshaw at 2 and your guess at 3 ... Meanwhile Geelong's strategy appears somewhat strange. They've lost two midfielders and delisted a few smart movers and replaced them with Clark and Stanley.

I think people underestimate the effect that the introduction of delisted free agency has on the lesser trades that used to take place involving players of this ilk. We've seen it happening with a number of clubs where players won't end up traded but rather picked up later for nothing after they're delisted. From the MFC perspective it's almost certain that these unloved uncontracted players will be delisted soon after the trade period ends (unless a miracle happens tomorrow). We might even decide to pay out the contracts of lesser lights with the promise of rookie listing them allowing us to fulfill our contracts. Hence, the suggestion made in some quarters that this might happen with Jack Trengove and possibly Michael Evans. The end result is that the delistings might filter down to our current rookies meaning Alexis Georgiou and even Max King might not be safe. I'm throwing the idea up but I really don't know if rules allow us to do this but it could give us extra scope for drafting in the coming month that we might otherwise not have. As far as assessing the trading so far, it's difficult to say. I'd prefer to look at the overall result when drafting's done.

Traded to the GWS Giants along with pick 6, in exchange for Tom Boyd. Dayne Beams is officially a Brisbane Lions player. Traded to the Lions from Collingwood. The Lions gave up picks 5, 25 and midfielder Jack Crisp. In return they received Beams and pick 67. Levi Greenwood is officially a Collingwood player. Traded to the Pies in exchange for pick 25 which goes back to Collingwood. Heritier Lumumba is officially traded from Collingwood to Melbourne as part of a three-way deal. Mitch Clark is officially traded from Melbourne to Geelong as part of a three-way deal. Travis Varcoe is officially traded from Geelong to Collingwood as part of a three-way deal. On the other hand, this from my mate Ash Browne @afl_hashbrowne: Spare me the vitriol about footy administrators telling fibs. Its part of their job description. #tradeperiod #tomboyd #ryangriffen -
Straight talking or another riddle? Demons happy to take top picks to draft I have a feeling that something outstanding would need to come up in the last hours of trading to cause us to give away picks 2 or 3 and that eventuality seems unlikely.

NAB Trade Radio explains the day's trading to date as follows:- • Dayne Beams traded from Collingwood to Brisbane. The Pies send Beams & pick 67 to Brisbane in exchange for picks 5, 25 and midfielder Jack Crisp. • North Melbourne trade Levi Greenwood to Collingwood in exchange for pick 25. • Heritier Lumumba traded to Melbourne. • Mitch Clark traded to Geelong. • Travis Varcoe traded to Collingwood. • St Kilda trade Rhys Stanley and pick 60 to Geelong in exchange for pick 21.

Today's excitement should inlude: Paddy Ryder zzz Port Adelaide has upped its offer for Ryder as the deadline of the NAB Trade period approaches. The Power have said they're prepared to give up picks 17 and 37 for Ryder but the Bombers still want more. Ryan Griffen and Tom Boyd Both could be forced to stay at their respective clubs next season, despite both players requesting to be traded. The Giants are refusing to trade Boyd, despite his manager Liam Pickering saying he would leave at the end of his contract next season regardless. We've heard it all before Despite it being talked about for weeks, the Dayne Beams trade to Brisbane is expected to get done today. It will kick off a five-way trade that will see Brisbane receive Beams & pick 67 from the Magpies in exchange for picks 5, 25 and midfielder Jack Crisp. North Melbourne would then receive pick 25 from Collingwood in exchange for Levi Greenwood. As part of the deal, Heritier Lumumba will also move from the Magpies to Melbourne, Mitch Clark will move to Geelong, and Travis Varcoe will move to Collingwood. Mitch Hallahan Hallahan will decide over the next 24 hours whether he will stay a Hawk, or seek a trade to Gold Coast. The Herald Sun says the Gold Coast offered him a three-year deal, despite him originally stating he wanted to stay at Hawthorn.
