  1. No one's mentioned Tracc and Clarry leaving on here. Any new thoughts? 🙄
  2. Is that like a White Russian? (Seriously what is it?)
  3. Hopefully the connection between yhe Krakeur brothers is bettered with our "Pickett line".
  4. Only if they "eat" set shots for breakfast.
  5. Thank you!!!! I spent maybe 15 minutes trying to get across techniques more advanced than just chanting a fact and felt like I got turned into a punchline. (I even mentioned, same as you, how you can memorise facts/items along points on a journey or a location you know like the back of your hand.) It's not quite perfect - you need to refresh your memory occasionally - and memorising useless stuff like a hundred digits of pi is silly. But certainly I learned the numbers for the season just past in minutes this way maybe last January. Then when Ghostwriter (?) relayed a friend's training report referring to all players only by numbers it was a cinch to 'translate' it for everyone here. EDIT: Ah yes, bingo! My comment: "On 08/03/2025 at 16:23, hardtack said: Call me dumb, but I really did not understand any of that. I’m guessing it’s player numbers, in which case, not really being across most of our team’s numbers, I’m completely lost. I’ve got some serious studying to do in the next seven days!! I hope that one day the AFL might see the benefit of putting the player's name on the back of the jersey.😵‍💫 Red 11 35 1 17 5 3 6 20 19 15 8 13 2( Rooey absolutely killing it) 31 37 26 21 disco( no number) 7 32 Gawn petty may bowey Tracc Salem Windsor Lindsay Langford Langdon Lever clarrie Jvr Fritsch Chandler Adams Jefferson Disco Viney Sparrow VS Mentha Petty (again?) 6. Hmm, a bit like , if i heard correctly, crims in England used rhyming slang as code everyone else wouldnt twig to. Especially once you dropped the second part (such as "tart" in "raspberry tart") it'd be almost impossible for a bystander to guess the original term.
  7. Yep, bloody stats! Obviously they can be extremely useful and coaches, and probably some good punters, know this . But in the wrong hands it's like a kid who's played a flight simulator on his comp ans now is trying to fly a jumbo. I'm sure it's not just Bruce McAvaney but my I'd roll my eyes when he'd say a team has been behind by 11 points or less at 3 quarter time 6 times this year and won 5 times as if this proves trailing is an advantage. So many times Ive heard BS like this.
  8. Cool. I was more hedging my bets. Crude statistics can easily miss what is essentially important.
  9. I can't quite find or remember the quote but Shane Warne criticised another bowler of going through the motions just balling the same ball thousands of times, without ever learning from it. Number of games is a crude half-truth stat. There'd be some natural leaders in their second year leading more than some 300-gamers. And of course a player forced to play injured or now past it can't be much of a leader as a witches hat, even if their advice is brilliant. These articles are vaguely interesting but they're also only vaguely right. (I bet most teams' coaches are very aware when a lack of leadership (probably more important than number of games) needs to be addressed.)
  10. It's funny reading these memory 'techniques' here. 😂 Going over stuff close to when one falls asleep or soon upon waking is good. But repetition is so primitive. This is a footy forum and plenty of memory stuff is online but there's lots of good memory techniques out there. Famous examples are the Major system (where 0 is converted to S or Z and 1 converts to T or D (and '01' could become SEAT or SEED or ZIT or SUIT)) and Memory Palaces (where you have a sequence of locations, such as, say, May at point #1, say, your letterbox, a Roo (or just Van Rooyen himself) at point #2 (say, your welcome mat) through to a chandelier (Chandler), say, at the back doorstep and eventually Henderson and Johnson at the back fence plus using association where words or images help embed stuff into one's memory. (Even cheesy stuff like LangFOURd and nine sounding like 'nun' and former Saint Steele now with that jumper number can help memory.) If anyone wants to memorise the players' numbers it's a lot easier to do than you might think.
  11. I reckon we could braindtorm some good ones for every player. But even if the trackwatchers passed them onto the players I doubt it'd change much. I like Orb (or Malone from On my Pat Malone or Bear from synonym barely). But I think mostly that if I want to be casual and mention Gawny, Ghosty ( or even the well-known singer as Swifty or Tay Tay) the audience doesnt ask "who?"
  12. It really is both. In a lousy team the B & F may not have even played as well as the guy who came 4th in most other teams' B&F ( nor did he come close to All-Australian selection.) Then again I don't think any team felt that Garry Ablett was mediocre in the year he won his Brownlow with the struggling Suns. A B&F with the premiers is a great indicator of a fantastic year. But one player can only do so much (Ablett) and conversely having superstars around you can help lift up every player in that team.
  13. Didn't we have quite a few invisible players last year? 🙄
  14. It's bad enough he gets Kenterfield. Anyway Luker is too close to Luka. 🙂
  15. Of course! But it'd be pronounced Yoda.
  16. Yeah, Jed could be Clampett or (Adam's) Apple or Jed Adams could be pared down to Dada. Luker could be Yoda. Then again these guys are paid to play footy, not sing or make nicknames or get ideas off a fan site.
  17. Yeah, basically adding a Y or O to a surname for a nickname is so MEH. Too many of these nicknames are like this. While Rex Hunt tried way too hard to find interesting nicknames and going through Brewer's Phrase And Fable is too much I wish there were more Bisons, Discos and Chunks.
  18. Where's Boof, Simmo and Wally?! 😯
  19. Nope! I just had a problem noticing every last thing said on here.
  20. Umm, fantastic goal but was there a reason you posted it just now?
  21. These are official? If anyone wants the dorkiest post ever i could post ideas how to remember all those numbers. 😂
  22. Thank you! I havent memorised the new numbers yet so saying number 40 draws a blank.
  23. Who is "new Taj"?! I thought maybe i got confused and wrongly thought Woewodin was delisted. But he was.
  24. Any idea when he'll be back into full training? At least game 1 is months away .
