Just saw that Ben McKay is on $1.4 - 1.5M p.a. Hilarious. They do it to themselves.
Can't be true surely...
Probably double what we are paying May.

Think whoever gets him will get a player. He did miss two games leading up to the Championships because of illness and his highlight reel may have suffered accordingly. What I like about him is his preparedness to get stuck in, earn the contested ball, tackle, shepherd, etc. Maybe he won't be a forward but could run through the midfield like Cripps? That's an enticing prospect.

So we are left with three draft picks now? (6, 11 and 42)? And how many rookie spots are left?
Assume we take Pup Brown at 42?

Based on the posting history of some Demonlanders, reckon we could have a few candidates! Then there are our Amsterdam-based posters and their international network!

Young? He's 28!
Anyway, let's see if he can at least get on the park. He seems to have broken every part of his body over the past decade.

Oh well! Let's see if he can get on the park.
Might plug a gap here and there but my expectations are low.
He won't solve our goalkicking woes but might be a handy link in the chain.

How bad is the Weagles list management if he is contracted for another two years at 800k?
He's done. Has been for two seasons.

Norf have to go tall, right?

Not surprised we are impressed with Watson. The question given the make up of our team is can we afford another 170cm player? Spargo, Bowie, Laurie, Viney, Kozzie, etc.
I want a 188cm connector with good skills overhead, long, raking kicks that can earn his own ball.

Elite speed is so captivating. Decent disposal as well. And I have a thing for left arm leggies!

Norf have it in the bag. But it says a fair bit about the lack of key position talent that they are prepared to add yet another midfielder.

Twomey reckons he has Nate Fyfe qualities. Big call!

On the surface it looks a lot to give up. But you can only assume there is a bigger plan in place.

Could be a cheap option but I think you would need to do an extra thorough medical. This guy is made of glass!

You blood the for sure, but if they aren't at the level for midfield at AFL level then they aren't ready.
You need that cover just in case, we have had it with JJ, Harmes and Dunstan. Big Hole with them gone
Dunstan didn’t play a game. Harmes was woeful while JJ struggled. I don't think it's a big hole at all.

We lose,
:Hibbard, Grundy, Harmes, JJ, Dunstan and Smith.
We absolutely need to bring in some AFL standard players. We Currently have 6 spots to Fill.
With Fullarton and McAdam coming in it's 4 Spots. If we top up from the draft too much we won't have any depth which we are seriously lacking in our midfield atm.
We really need a solid midfield cover of this standard.
True, but personally I like the blooding of kids like McVee, Woewodin, JvR, etc. Add Howes to that next year.

Signing him to a five year deal wasn't perhaps the smartest move. Form in last two year, in particular, has been dreadful.
We have an emotional attachment because he was a Melb supporter growing up, but if we are going to get better we need to find alternatives.

I have more faith in us sorting the half backs if McQualter can get Troy Chaplin and our experienced defenders to loosen the reigns a little.
Salem's always lacked a little kicking penetration but if we can get him healthy he's still one of the best ball users in the comp. And there's genuine competition/help in that role with Bowey, McVee, Rivers and Howes.
Half forward is a different challenge. The Lions forward just don't defend to an elite level. That's why they aren't premiers. They need to get more out of their talls and Rayner (if he's the 3rd tall). Charlie Cameron can be spotty. Dev Rob is the only defensive worker and he's not amazing at it. They are actually crying out for an ANB like player!
I'm not convinced we'll suddenly be blooding kids in the hardest position on the ground. Reid has undeniable talent so you'd chuck him in and live with it, a bit like JHF at Port this year. But McKercher is the type of midfielder who usually has to play midfield. Duursma's VFL form said he's a fair way off and I'd almost be tempted to start him off half back to make it easier for him to adapt.
The Pies favour defensive half forwards. McCreery is a spotty attacking player. Lipinski. Adams. Even Ginnivan when he came back in came in to defend first.
Midfield is the position we desperately need an injection of skill to balance things out. Seems we might be removing a player without great skills. Not sure if any of the top draft picks will be able to walk in to the midfield and provide us that balance from year 1.
Sort of agree with your last paragraph. Our ball carriers in the midfield are not as good as Collingwood, Brisbane or GWS. Then again our first dibs midfielder are the envy of most teams. You can have different strengths.
It would be good to have one or two additional line breaking mids/wingers in the mould of Whitfield, Coleman, Daicos, etc. Guys that can pinpoint 50 metre kicks to beat the zone.

Hasn't looked properly fit for a couple of years. Looked great in his first year. Might be a bargain for the Bombers.

I think there is a three pronged improvement for us next year; better forward talent, better ball movement, and better forward movement and structure.
Of which the forwards coach can influence maybe only one...

Given the two options WC or us he has to choose West Coast, right?
Barnett is still two years away and he can walk into a first ruck position. A shame.

It's amazing how the close ones they won are always luck.
Try and think that stupidity through why don't you.
The G had nothing at all to do with the Lions losing.
It might have been an undisciplined 60 metre penalty.
Lions lost because they lacked dare.

Yeah, I'm not so convinced. Sanders seems to lack the explosive pace you need to be a top liner. Great accumulator and incredibly consistent though.
