Tairon Ah-Mu - No access for Dees NGA Talent
Magnus replied to demonglory's topic in Melbourne Demons
Why aren’t rule changes like this one grandfathered? Eg where significant investments are made over time they come in to place in 5yrs. Club could have also clarified this at the start of the program as well. -
Am paid up for 2025. Club needs us more than ever (and am looking forward to voting at the AGM…)

Does the club need a full and external review?
Magnus replied to DeesignerAU's topic in Melbourne Demons
Clearly yes. Too much noise not to have one. The club needs a reset to refocus on bringing us a flag in the next few years. The club is going to need help from the supporter base to build our new base (no way the state government will/can help) and right now that would be hard. -
Hmmmm, rough interview that I don’t think she was properly prepared for (and Whately did machine gun the questions a bit). Some of the soundbites I would have wanted to hear from the club president: The leadership group is aligned on our goal of XXX (eg what are they all working towards together - the “North Star” eg “giving our loyal members a MCC grand final within 5years time” etc. “If Trac goes, I will” (really odd she has not met with him or the family, one of our more important assets) “We are really proud of the team and our emerging talent, we do acknowledge we have some list gaps that we are actively trying to fill in the off season and we are looking forward to the 2025 season” “There is a bit of external noise to the club at the moment - it is unfortunate - but we have to defend the red & blue” “Finally to our fans, we are the oldest football club in the world & I personally feel we have let them down over the last 18m - you deserve better - and you will get it” (eg some humility) Etc etc. Unfortunately she came across distant to the workings of the club and the key concerns of the members - not what I wanted to hear.

Hmmm, I have been reading this blog for a while now. I feel we have all just been manipulated by some Machiavellian plan by Paul Connor. The Dan Houston change of mind, Track not coming out to support his club, Oliver etc. There is all one common link to these issues…. I assume CSM read this blog - if I am correct please STOP mucking around with my club.

Gents, as always love the podcast. Very frustrating game that was basically lost in the first half (really first quarter). We are proud that our zone/all team defence is our “one wood” however should we switch this style to man-on-man for the start of games against teams with strong foot skills and able to rapidly move the ball (any basket baller will tell you rapid ball movement is how to smash a zone defence)? Later in the game when the players are tired you definitely switch back to zone, however it just gets so frustrating watching Collingwood (and Freo) 2 strong skilled teams smash our zone apart at the start of games and get a strong lead.

All i will say is “go dees”. We will be there (hopefully not getting too wet), however I really hope for a win for our final game to ride some positive momentum into the pre-season. Hopefully see a few of you there (FWIW I am 2m tall, have a beard and a full mouth of teeth - assume not many people will match this description at the G tonight if any Deamonlander wants to say hi).

This has been messy and I hope we can get some clean air for a while. However I am extremely concerned about our contact details being given to a member (email & address) this is wrong and I find a bizarre part of the corporation act. I hope it is not used & deleted.

Hi gents, what does Freo know that the other teams haven’t figured out eg why do we play so badly against them? Second question, can we say our ruck experiment is over & we need to cough up $$$ during the offseason (or get Verral & Fullerton up the learning curve fast)?

I am getting a bit confused about what the AFL deem safe vs unsafe (as probably many of us are). I fear underlying this issue this week is the AFL’s desire for confusion, outrage and “clicks”. There are many rules that could simply be tidied up - yet they decide they wont. The 2 reports this week were in headlines the whole time (note the amount of comments here). The tackling one is worrying though as it can involve head injuries (like this weekend) thus long term consequences to players, team composition and also future junior players being encouraged to other sports by concerned parents. This is not soccer or basketball - there is a degree of physical contact needed. FWIW, my view is if you cause a concussion you are not playing next week, the duration is dependent on the grading of intent. However even simple clarity like this is absent. I also think there should be a reduction in interchanges allowed (I would love some data to see if there is a correlation between aggressive/damaging tackles vs time coming off the bench). I fear the AFL’s vagueness is breaching one of their main purposes - being to protect the game.

Hi all, I have interpreted this as a positive sign for the game. My family and I are currently over in Perth and had a great lunch at a restaurant by the beach here today. To our surprise, Fyfe and a few others were at the table near us - looked like they were settling in for a traditional Perth Sunday sesh…

Hi all, am looking forward to this game. Interesting tactical choice by the selection committee. I think there a few variations as to why we haven’t listed a recognised ruck in the absence of Gawn. first, gone are the days when we materially score from the centre contest. Although it is exciting to watch a mid gain a quick goal from a clean tap, it is rare this occurs. Thus needing a strong ruck for the centre is not hugely important (aside from stopping the opposition from scoring quickly). Thus having 3 talks doing it part time but focusing on around the ground work could be an interesting tactic. second, it could all be a ruse so they don’t play 2 rucks and put Fullerton in at the last minute (as he is listed as an emergency). third, unfortunately gawny can’t play forever and we need to make a decision in the next year or so if we need to invest in an equivalent (ish) ruck. It will cost us and salary cap might be spent better elsewhere. Thus this is a test if the 3 “gifted amateurs “ approach to rucking works. finally it might rain, and they have gone in with a tall list. Could backfire materially on them (but let’s not try and predict Melbourne weather). I find this change interesting and can’t wait to see it in action this weekend.

Gents, as always love the pod. Does anyone have stats on how we perform the second game after a bye? Eg last weeks final quarter “effort” I put down to exhaustion but interested how we have historically performed the following week. Plus, any view on how the club is training our youngsters? i was particularly excited to see the Kolt in action for a full game (got a bit tired at the end but started really well). I feel the coaching staff are doing a good job in getting young players experienced probably more than other clubs. What is your view on this? I have big hopes for the Dees at the Gabbatoir…. M

Hi all, not sure if this has been commented on however we did get a win coming off a bye. I haven’t seen us do that for a while.
