  1. Was ready to add another no meme, but sure, why not? Thinking of Paul Chapman to Essendon: relieved of midfield duties and kicked 20 or so at his new club as a half-forward (Dusty seems a fraction fitter). It's better than our small-fry contribution and Martin is a calibre above, if he wants to come for a couple years on a reasonable contract, which is doubtful. But the combination with Trac is tempting even on a bigger budget while we're in our window. Also look at Isaac Smith to Geelong, who walked away with a Norm Smith.

In line with the advice on hair and some herbs and flowers such as daisies, you need to cut them to promote further growth. Seems you're on top of that though?

  3. This hot-take is a little bit for @binman.

I worked out why BT stands out as a particularly loathsome commentator among a hotly contested field, beside the obvious. He doesn't use qualifiers.

Everyone gave BruceMac grief for framing every statement with 'you feel like' or 'don't you think' - but BT just says dumb [censored] as if it is fact, and doesn't seem to have a good handle on nuance.

  4. Melbourne copped an owies.

The equivalent in Portuguese is doi doi.

I know this, as I currently live with a Portuguese kid with a fondness for scissors.

But if he got caught in a perfect tackle and hit his head: holding the ball little mate.

I was already emotionally dead after the Collingwood final, that this loss meant nothing to me.

After what happened against Collingwood the entire season was done and dusted as far as I was concerned.

That we lost the next final because we couldn't kick straight, and also had JVR suspended while Maynard went free, is something I totally blocked out.

Like many others suggested at the time, that qf was the grand final match and we came up short (for various reasons). I basically checked out after that, and watched the Carlton match on semi-delay-fast-forward.

The death of musician/recording legend Steve Albini is all the loss I can take for one day. Therefore the Demons must win by 33 (& 1/3) points.

Because we don't have the same fire power as Carlton, who have not one but two Coleman medallists.

I mean of course we can win a shootout, but it's not a game style that we are comfortable with, and it greatly reduces our chances of winning. We need this to be a contested slog. If we can't have the game on our terms, it's going to be very hard to win. Offensively they are a very very good side.

Harry Mack has his lowest disposal average against us, and the other one has kicked a grand total of seven goals in six matches against us. They are not the shoot-out issues.

    You write it, I’ll proofread it. We’ll split the $$$ 70/30. You’re fine with 30% right??! 😉

Will you pay my fare on the Jolimont line at least, for some inspiration?

For those complaining we don't score enough, and using 100 points as some arbitrary marker defining a competent attack.

    18 teams x 8 rounds = 144 matches

of those 136 matches, only 30 teams have scored over 100 points.

    I reckon that's pointing to something....😅

What happened in those other mysterious eight matches engorged?

  10. In all seriousness, they should probably migrate their red to purple like the L.A. Lakers and just embrace a Gold Coast stereotype. Powder white on ceramic white probably doesn't stand out quite enough, but two 'suns' in a bikini would be pretty fun as a new logo.

The locals will be lining up ahahaahaha.

Being in my early 30s, Carlton have traditionally troubled us. Vivid memories exist of us needing to beat Carlton several times in the 2000s in order to secure our place in the top 8 or top 4 only to falter, from memory once this happened twice in the one season - and let's not forgot Mitch Robinson and the infamous "bruise free football".

In the 2000s, we played Carlton ten times between our epic win in the 2000 qualifying final and properly bottoming out in 2008

We went 7-3 over them during that period (including our ‘loss’ in the Kreuzer Cup’).

Until last year, they would have a lot more gripes about us annoying them in recent years than the reverse.

  13. Flashback to 2018 - which doesn't look all that dissimilar to 1998 based on our results.

The year of 'Is Goodwin the Right Guy?' (and an AFLX trophy). The 6-6-6 rule was brought in the following year.

For those that think Simon is stuck in the mud:

No team has scored as many points in a season as us since then.

We only scored less than 90 points in five games of the regular season. 14 matches we scored above 100.

(We already had Lever, on the sidelines, but then went and fetched May).

2021: We don't manage more than 90 points in 14 regular season matches. Score above 100 five times.

    Win flag.

The point of the story: the 100-plus point drubbing we gave to Carlton in 2018 was a thing of glory.

Our 8th biggest winning margin in MFC history, and the biggest since 2004 . . . against Carlton.
