Shane Fitzsimmons made his debut in Round 2, 1973 against Hawthorn at Glenferrie Oval.

I too have been telling people for 50 years that Shane Fitsimmons debuted the same day: incorrectly.  On Channel 7's League Teams the previous Thursday, Jack Dyer could not believe that a VFL club would field a side with a Flower on the wing and a Swan at FF.  He opined that it must actually be Fowler, that's right Fowler.

When RDB moved Robbie from the wing, a thing of beauty was snatched away from us.  Have we forgiven him?

  2. Petenders unless we have Petty and Schache playing.  Tomlinson couldn't keep up with McKay.  Smith as a defensive key forward didn't work as did Melksham didn't once TMac went down last year.  BBrown, Tmac, no longer can do enough.  Adams not doing much. Turner is too light to release Lever from second key back.  So the normal run of injuries means Pretenders.  Looking forward to being severely embarassed after the GF.

I'm persuaded by conversations elsewhere on the topic that the best course of action for the AFL would have been to acknowledge the seriousness of the allegations and recommend to the complainants that they take the matter to the Australian Human Rights Commission - the most appropriate body to address the matter.

    Yes  👍

  4. As others have already pointed out, Lever is a competent second tall but an intercepting marvel as a third tall working his way onto a small or mid.  Tomlinson is starring at Casey.  It defies logic to leave him out. McVee gets squeezed out.

Hunter comes back in.  Chandler goes back to Casey and Spargo to emergency but a toss-up really.

Two forward spots for TMac, Van Rooyen, BBrown and The Love Shack.  I wouldn't overthink this.  Just who ever has run the most kms in their last game.  None of them are setting the world on fire.  With a qualifying 12 disposals at Casey or 8 in the Seniors.  That lets TMAC out.

On 360 they said that the North President put out a statement saying Clarkson had been cleared and that it was the right decision, as she had seen all the documents. What’s that about? Really?

Also said that two of the complainants “Zac and Amy” weren’t indigenous Australians.

    What does that mean?

Is there a suggestion of bad treatment to non indigenous players or partners?

    It’s all very confusing.

My bolded words are just putting fuel on the fire and are surprisingly ill-judged IMHO.

What we understand as Phonetics...is modern Phonetics..  kinda came into play early 19th century..   a little late for the Greeks to be worried.

I imagine that the Ancient Greeks did not give a stuff, with Constantinople having fallen on April 29, 1453.  (Yes, desperate but certainly not dateless).

However, the educated class in the 19th Century, was mad for Ancient Greek (as well as Latin).  They coined new words based on the Ancient Greek language, e.g. phonogram, telephone, phoneme, saxophone.

The alternative explanation that those were just the letters that came out of the scrabble bag, seems rather far-fetched.

You critiqued the AFL performance and I asked you what they could have done differently and you replied with some vague undefined "action". OK I accept that you don't know what they could have done differently

If I may have a attempt Old55, the AFL should have wrapped this up more rapidly.

First up, their investigations officer should have interviewed all parties individually asap with or without their lawyer as they choose.

When it came apparent that their stories were incompatible and one side didn't want to meet the other side, the AFL should quickly have said that the basic facts could not be agreed and no further action was possible.

The appointment of a panel of lawyers had no prospect of success. Gill's statement that "this is what they asked for" ducks responsibility.

So no further action unless someone sues.  Then the jury will be able to look into their faces and work out who was gutted and who is defensive/ashamed.  I suspect that there won't be cases.  The interview with the  former Hawthorn football club welfare manager Jason Burt suggests that they should keep their heads down.

So Gill that is another big fail after Lamumba, Goodes, Rioli(?), etc.  The system to support indigenous and/or immature and/or isolated players is broken and you do not seem to care.  Sling me or many others some of your salary and we would tell you how to fix it.

*Isn't it ironic that the word 'phonetic' is not spelt phonetically? It should be spelt 'fonetic' ?

Too much information perhaps but "p" run into "f" does sound a bit like "f".  It was the best that the ancient Greeks could do a couple of thousand years ago last Tuesday, when the "f" sound came back into use in their language.  The dedicated letter of diagamma had disappeared due to lack of use.  Phono-etc words come from the Greek words φωνή (phonē, 'sound' or 'voice').  Hence the odd spelling.

Similarly, the naughty frenchies spelled the Anglo-Saxon "ch" sound as "tch"  i.e. catch, hatch. They ran together the "t" sound with the "sh" sound that they rendered as "ch" e.g. chalet, mon petit chou.

Curnow is a very tricky one - my thoughts are to play May on him. Charlie is an overhead and  man on man beast and I feel May has the spoil, aggression and overhead capacity to at least challenge him.

She'll be right mate.  Maysie will push Curnow off the drop off the ball before the umpires are watching.

He was very very ordinary tonight against an undersized swans team

But only 23, playing at the club where coaches go to die, TMac has seized up.  We need the kgs. Sign him up.

Blakey's composure to bounce the ball while going full tilt, speaks volumes. Buddy doing the team thing squaring the ball up was also good to see. Obviously invested in team over self.

Just an oddity but he runs exactly like his old man did.

No politics, please: this is an adult discussion about Flake and Violet Crumbles: please stick to the issue!

  13. We need to give Petty some time to learn the Forward's craft as we did for Van Rooyen.

Possibly some less flaky coaching will train up the Love Shack for a key position.  We need the extra kilos.  Our new guys are lightly built.

Van Rooyen floats like a bee but dropped a lot on Saturday.  Half a century ago, a much taller friend was coached to tilt his hands forward.  Anyone out there with an updated diagnosis and cure?

Sorry to interrupt the love fest peeps but is it time to become a Republic based on the coronation celebrations?

Who do you want to dig you out of the snow, a St Bernards or a beagle with ambition?

The political system has thrown up Prime Ministers Morrison, Abbot, Rudd, Turnbull, Keating, etc.   Shrinking violets to the man with hubris unknown.  Be Afwaid be vewy vewy Afwaid — (Elmer Fudd c. 1956)  Any mention of a recent State Premiers will cause this thread to self-combust.

    I am in a quandary.

Which is better, a crunchie bar or a violet crumble?

    Both chocolate and honeycomb.

The chocolate on a violet crumble sticks too firmly to the honeycomb.  The choclate on a crunchie can be nibbled off leaving the honeycomb to be wolfed down.  This is the correct way to eat a crunchie but don't let anyone watch you.  They may come over all unnecessary.
