This isn’t about jumper numbers but I didn’t know where else to post it.

I’m guessing one day in the future there’ll be a similar streak for names such as Lachie, Bailey, Rory, Darcy, Luke, Brodie and Jack, among others.

Incidentally, a few years ago I watched a match where at one point there was six St Kilda players named Jack on the ground. That’s a third of the side. Did I work this out myself? No, I didn’t. But I didn’t need to since BT mentioned it EVERY [censored] FIVE MINUTES.

edit: sadly it’s also the end of us having a player with the initials JH. 😢

Fair go...that would have been BT's most intelligent observations that season...or since. And was probably wrong.

  2. Can someone point me to where I find the AFL rules that govern drafting, free agency, compensation picks, academy etc etc.

I have always found it hard to find this stuff on the AFL website and I like to understand what I am reading.

I think it is the Sheldon in me. ( Not the Carlton player ).

Humans have a great need to look at the result and then make up a story that explains that. Look at the difference between the Qualifying and Grand Finals. In one, we were inaccurate despite being territorially dominant, with Collingwood taking their chances despite enormous territorial deficiency. Because Collingwood won a close game people try to make the story about Collingwood's superior forward efficiency against our useless fixation on territory. Yesterday the roles are reversed, as Collingwood were dominant in territory but wasteful and Brisbane were efficient with get chances, but because Collingwood win we still search for reasons why Collingwood were still efficient (like looking at rushed behind our shots outside 50 etc - not picking on any posters in particular) because humans need to tell the story.

The fact is that luck and randomness have so much influence on the outcome but everyone is very uncomfortable with that because a coherent story is very important to us.

If we're making decisions about the future we can get clouded by the results and end up focusing on the wrong things.

This is my feeling this year. They used to sweep under the rug pretty well bur something shifted this year even further. I can't remember a season where the final 8 was shaped by as much controversial events as this one. The execution and skill of the players was not forefront (Although I will say it was in the GF) it was anything but.

I'd also like to add to this: The media. I'm sure there's others that still love any sort of football media but this was the year that completely turned me off any sort of football shows and commentary. The concussion debates firstly with Alir and Jones then Maynard and Gus seemed to pit the ex players against us idi0ts that wouldn't know because we never played the game. It's left me with an uncomfortable feeling and a lot of division.

We'll see what ends up happening with this class action, who knows maybe there will be more division but as many here have said the money is piling in so they'll be fine.

In the class action the Maynard assault will be shown with the comment : " your honour in 2023 this is still allowed under the rules"

Professional sport is often a game of centimetres. Everything done or not done can have enormous ramifications on the result.

Clarry is my favourite player so let me put that out there first. But I agree with Selwood and Cotchin, that what he did was just dumb. Getting Cripps off the ground, in that last quarter, could have seen us in a PF and maybe even a GF.

It was not the time or place to be a nice guy. Semis are sudden death. Cripps, imo would not have done the same. His scragging and occasional  hard physical acts, show a determination to win at all costs.

Do we forgive guys who don’t go when it is their opportunity? Collingwood is in the GF. Look at how many of their players are prepared to hurt opponents. Maynard, Cox, Adams and Mihocek often snipe and even Pendles, yes Pendles will “innocently “ hurt players and even Nick Daicos gut punched a Giant and buried Daniels head first, which put him off the ground in the vital last few minutes.

Winners are grinners. Ask our Coaches if they are happy with Clarry’s gesture. Ask his team mates.

No, for me it was a dumb act, from not one of our brightest.

I am afraid I have to agree. Smith helping Weitering up when he looked like he couldn't get up was worse. Proved they are very nice boys and their parents may be proud...but no chocolates. And I think it then pervades the team.

If any MCC PEEPS have tix to the big dance and don’t want to go let me know. Mrs Super is a long long time Pies person and I want her to go (despite her protestations she wants to stay home with her Demon boys ) - her fam all pies and I have to say generally have a brain and are reasonable.

Sorry , can't help. Do have tickets to academy awards, Wimbledon men's final, Skylab, birdcage on cup day. Let me know if she's at all interested . Will shout her a frock as well.

Would not have enjoyed his last game. The way the VFL competition is run is farcical and an insult to players like Munro who give their heart and soul every week of the season that’s not interrupted by yet another bye or the withdrawal of half of the team’s best players because of fixturing issues created from above.

Stunts like pulling half the team out just do not work in the longer term...the wrong message and culture pervades the whole group.

Sure you aren't comfusing him (turnover king aspect) with Roan Steele?

Easy to confuse the two players at times as they look similar in the heat of battle.

Roan is a pretty ordinary user of the ball imv.

Smith probably not elite as such either but didn't think he was as bad as some are suggesting.

Thought he had a big impact at Casey in a number of games.  To say he didn't do much is pretty harsh.  No doubt he suffered a little when matched up on bigger bodied players at times

    Wow...that's a little harsh.

I thought Steele had a good season.

White , Munro Grey and Steele are usually best non listed players.

All non listed players should be viewed in the light that they have a real job as well.

  9. I rarely bet on football , or at all, but I put a portion of my meagre resources on GWS, yesterday. To beat port , $2.20, and to win flag , $13.00.

So, showing a profit and riding for free on GF.

I'm not backing them against pies. GWS will win and that will be sweet enough. So sweet. I'm dreaming of it. Might go to game.

Disappointed that first Tmac played instead of Grundy. Tmac has been a great player but his form has not been good, his ability to jump and his speed are real issues especially when we seldom pass into the forward line. Grundy or Schache should have played, the fact they did not replace him at 3rd quarter time makes me wonder why goodwin was not prepared to make those changes.  Schache was good enough to be our sub he should have been good enough to put on the ground to replace a player doing nothing. We seem to have a problem playing our sub unless its a medical emergency, does not make sense not to use a fresh player.

At times when Max was rested we had no ruckman at the contest which allowed them free reign. Was that part of our game plan. The original concept with grundy was to give max more time forward and give Max a hand in the ruck. I dont see Grundy did anything wrong, i think max failed to improve his kicking. last nights around the corner was an example that you really expect players to kick these days. Regardless of grundy staying or going Max needs to work on his kicking, stop running off to the side and learn to kick straight. It now looks like we are giving up a damn good ruckman probably for not a lot of return and then have to find ourselves another ruckman. I just done understand that.

Genuine question. Can someone that knows explain why there was no Melbourne ruckman at some contests. Disorganised ? Tactic ?

They clearly had him as sub as insurance in case Max went down because they needed another ruck option but didn't want to name Grundy in the 22. Just dumbfounding decision making by the match committee, they should have brought in Grundy, dropped TMac and put Hibberd or another runner as sub.

Think that pretty much sums it up.

The Dees are the Greg Norman of football , chokers .  We need to get rid of some players BB ,T.Mac, Harmes , Jordon ,Schache , Grundy the most expensive back up ruckman in afl history and Goody , the reserves coach ,Richardson,Pert that's for starters .I would include the fitness coach . This club makes me sick.

What did the reserves coach do wrong ?
