The 2 former Casey players nominated for the Fothergill-Round- Mitchell Medal for best Under 23 player, George Grey and Corey Ellison, have now both been named in the VFL Team of the Year 40 person squad, which is open to AFL listed players.

I think this is the team I'd like to see:
FB: Tomlinson, May, McVee
HB: Salem, McDonald, Rivers
C: Langdon, Viney, Windsor
HF: Neal-Bullen, Fullarton/Jefferson, Tholstrup
FF: Pickett, Van Rooyen, Fritsch
FL: Gawn, Oliver, Sparrow
IC: Chandler, Moniz-Wakefield, Woewodin, Howes
SUB: Sestan
Midfield rotations to include Pickett, Salem, Rivers, McVee, ANB, maybe Tholstrup.
Pretty inexperienced but these are all guys I believe are important going forward, so they do need more exposure at the top level. Also could have missed some important players here.
Overall not actually confident this team would beat North.
Jefferson in and at CHF. God help us.
Agree with Sestan. Im not a particular fan, but he has played better than many of the fringe over an extended period and deserves a shot.

Back playing country footy.
Anyone know why?
Would surely get a game?
What part of country? Drouin or Manangatang?

Point out whatever you like, I don’t even know what your second sentence means tbh
Actually I retract that and apologise.
I had read an incorrect report that a misnamed former player had given a reference. That player had some years ago testified that he punched an opponent after racial abuse. He later admitted it was untrue.
The reference in the Cameron case was from Eddie who is a legend.
Mea culpa.

He didn’t do that, it was a clash of heads that caused the damage.
It was a regulation hip & shoulder except the guy didn’t see it coming and got ragdolled because he wasn’t ready for contact.
Parker’s evidence was in line with how I saw it, and the tribunal didn’t disagree, but as he’s caused damage he gets a long holiday. That’s fine I guess but apply that interpretation consistently. I seem to remember an incident in the finals last year where causing damage didn’t matter if you didn’t mean to do it, all of a sudden it does again.
Swans also tried the good guy discount of only 1 suspension in over 200 games but the tribunal noted he’d been fined 9 times so threw that out too. Fines didn’t count when Cameron tipped Lever on his head so who knows what the rule is there.
Overall he was always going to go, I tipped 4-5, he got 6 so be it but some consistency would be nice.
Yes, but am I allowed to point out that Cameron had an elder speak as to his character, plus a reference from a player that has acknowledged many years ago falsely accusing his striking victim of a racial slur to justify/excuse striking.

Parker is in position to attack the ball or receive a handball, not wanting to clean up his own team mate he waits for the handball receive, his team mate gives it a gentle soccer so he goes to shepherded for him. Nothing about that is running passed the ball. Parker never skipped over the footy.
You and the footy media can’t just use terms that have football meanings when they don’t apply to make it seem more than it was.
Smith has zero awareness of a basic shepherd hence why his head and neck are floppy because there’s no brace for contact. It’s basic under 12’s stuff but we are degrading the fundamentals of footy by teaching players to run around without a care in the world. If he didn’t have tunnel vision he’d have ridden the bump shoulder to shoulder. But nope, completely blind to the act of a normal shepherd.
I give up.

I'm quite enjoying this banter between 1975 and 2024.
Having played, not well, in the Yarra valley mountain league in the 70's, I regarded myself more 1975 than 2024.
I think the Maynard disgrace propelled me into 2023 and this is in the same category.

He didn’t run passed the ball, his team mate who got their first kicked it away from him. There’s a significant and important difference.
Running passed the ball to make contact with someone is often a cheap shot as they expect you to contest the footy and you don’t, as well as a bad play.
He also didn’t hit a tall player in the head. Not from the angle I can see. Looks like the contact is well below the top of the shoulder but the big fella is completely unaware and his head flops around and they clash heads.
I’d love a player like Parker on our list, and I’d be alarmed if any of our afl players couldn’t see or ride a straightforward bump.
So having read that, I looked at the vision again.
Parker clearly ran past the ball.
I am pretty sure that Smith, the big fella, being completely unaware, did not then decide to head butt Parker and manage to pull it off.

You can’t predict the bounce of the ball or know where everyone on the ground is, but when you’re around the ball and someone is clearly coming in to shepherd you it’s basic stuff to see them and react.
I’d be worried about Smith’s ability to walk down a busy street yet alone play a high level of footy.
When you run past the ball and hit a taller player in the head I think you might have a problem.

It always seemed to me that, where the transgressed player misses games due to the injury caused, the transgressor's penalty should be at least as long.
Also, one game should be served when next playing that team.

Here's the good news: we now must play Jefferson. We now must give new recruits a game ahead of Billings - i.e. Tholstrup. It's now patently obvious that our current team being selected is lacking.
Jefferson has averaged under 5 kicks, 2 tackles and 1 goal in his last 9 outings at vfl level.
Nil physical presence.

It is strange as I would have thought that clubs had a big say in the timing of matches. Saturday 11am would have been more logical.
KC ...could you please throw some light on how the VFL listed players train. Do they all attend or only the ones likely to play that week...thanks
KC or someone else should feel free to correct me, but if you mean the players that are not AFL listed, I believe they all turn up to training. Then selections are made based on how many and which listed players are playing for Casey that week, thus the spots that are available.
Tough gig.

Let's be sensible. One club has to go.
In fairness, there should be a vote.
I vote Collingwood.

Can someone explain to me why this couldn't be a curtain raiser to the main game at the MCG ?
Or at least start this at 3:45 so punters could watch this game on the way to the MCG, or at least a couple of quarters.

He is a category B rookie, meaning he had not played Australian Rules football for at least 3 years before being signed. I think he only played until he was about 12 before following the bball pathway due to his height.
This is now his second year on an AFL list, similar to Jefferson he's had one true preseason.
So what are we trying to achieve? We are rolling the dice on a 206 cm athletic prospect to see if he can pick up AFL football as he develops his body.
We know tall players take longer. At 206 cm it's fair to expect him to take a while if at all.
Basically, given the rarity of height, it's a free hit to see if something comes of it. And if it doesn't we let him go.
On current situation, it doesn't seem like he is coming on or that the footy department have much faith in him. If that's correct then he'll be gone year end.
Should head up to Darwin and play in the NTFL over the summer to get some games in.

The kid has had 3 kicks in 11 VFL games. Clearly he is not playing big minutes but, seriously, what are we trying to achieve here?
Boots would be in good nick.

Jefferson is on the end of some disrespectful comments and bullying IMO
I will try and explain it to you:
Your stated opinion is that others should not have an opinion.

"Keep your opinion to yourself". ? It is a discussion forum !!
The point is to share opinions and on demonland it is usually pretty respectful.

Jeffo developing some real forward craft.
Yes. I keep hearing he is a wonderful mark of the football. Except today he didn't take any. But on a positive note, his 4 disposals is 3 more than he had in the last final Casey played in.
I don't think I have ever seen a player with less presence, at any level.
Someone has to take this kid aside and tell him the facts of life.
