JvR improved as day went on..some impressive "clunks".

Schache let himself down when, with less than a goal in it, with the ball in contest in their forward half, he thought he would protest the absence of a free kick to him, rather than compete for the ball. Richmond possession.

    Casey players:

Burgoyne did similar to Schache early in game when he nonchalantly jogged along behind a ball that looked like it might go out. It didn't. Richmond waltz in, grab it and goal.

Goonan competed very well. As always, Munro in it all day. Mitch White was missed and is needed back in team. George Grey injured early, little impact but very clever goal late in game. Roan Steele competed quite well, marred by a sloppy return of ball to a Richmond player which resulted in a 50m penalty to tigers and a goal.

Team will improve on that performance.

I may have been in error in attributing the sloppy return and 50m penalty to Roan Steele. If so, apologies to young Roan.

  2. Okay, I've crunched the numbers. 99.9% of followers detest the music after a goal. The only vote in favour was the mother of the bloke that pushes the play button.

So why in hell does the AFL persist? It just doesn't make sense.

Interesting to see @Bystandermwntion one moment in which Schache has let himself and the team down, but absolutely no credit for his 5 goals. Sounds like he went alright and contributed much to the team’s performance, kicking half the total team goals.

Very fair comment. I should have acknowledged the 5. But the incident I spoke of was within a couple of minutes of final siren.

I have no idea how JVR performed yesterday but there is vision on YouTube of him taking an imposing clunk at half forward at the Southern end in yesterday’s game.

Something to look forward to at AFL level.

Channel 9 news reported about 9 days ago that someone trodded on his foot at training and that he was ruled out for the Saints game but the club expected him to play some minutes against Richmond.

Hopefully it’s just precaution, he’ll play some minutes in the VFL next week (if there is a praccy game) and be ok for round 1.

Anyone attend training this week and can advise of his progress?

Casey do have a practice match next week...on Friday.

  6. I don't think any revenue shortfall would or should necessarily be borne by players.

I don't think any AFL and club administrators along with coaches and assistants ( who together outnumber players ) would desert their posts having been offered similar money elsewhere.

I'm far from puritanical, but one more cross to Nathan Brown and I will....not sure quite what.

We will draft Moodie in mid year draft.

In the absence of a long term injury, not sure that is even possible. I stand to be corrected.

Casey isn't the easiest team to get a game! Perhaps the focus should be on that at this stage. Sometimes there are very limited spots after listed players, who I assume are automatically selected. But good luck to all the Casey aspirants.

  8. I'm missing something. 2 games at vfl level with very average stats that don't come close to Corey Ellison's, who didn't put a foot wrong at Casey. And Ellison went forward once at Werribee and kicked 5? in a half in a tough game.

But, I wish the young fellow well.

Really don’t see Tomlinson (and probably Turner) as anything other than excellent depth for the backline if we lose Petty or May or Lever.

I am not as sold on TMac as some others seem to be (hope I’m wrong and yes I know “structure, covers territory, etc”) Doesn’t seem that long ago he was the subject of regular derision. Would really like to see Schache (no. 2 pick and over 200cm) and of course JVR given opportunities, they are more where our future forward talls lie. BBB is a great forward but realistically, like TMac coming to the end of his career.

One things for sure…Casey’s in for another top year.

It must be a very committed group of Casey non listed players with limited spots available, particularly given the firsts relatively good run with injuries.

I think Chnadler gets underrated on this site as well, i think Koz will play more midfeild time this year and Chandler will step in as the pressure small forward (along with Spargo and Nibbler).

Im looking forward to seeing some games.

If Chandler isnt picked in the One's 22, I think his head will explode. Tried his heart out last year.

Pies played last year with nothing to lose approach, soft draw, and some luck with close games.

Daicos junior improves, but Pendlebury, Sidebottom and Elliott closer to the end!

I think they make the eight, but wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t!

Cats playing list no worse, enough home games, they make top 4.

Swans hard to call but we’ll coached and make to eight for me.

Lions list looks better, top 8 for me.

Pies as above on the edge!!

Demons list improved make 8 should be top 4.

Freo list looks weaker, also Jackson big money may create angst, so are on the edge!

Dogs list looks weaker Dunkley, Hunter out, Jones in will help backline, Darcy, Ugle both improve. Right on edge!

Tigers look better with Hopper & Taranto providing cover for Prestia and Martin fitter, makes them look better, make 8 push for top 4!

so Pies, Freo & Dogs vulnerable!

    Contenders:

    - Blues have star power
Cripps, Walsh, Curnow, McKay & Weitering, small forwards weakness, but will go close. I’d go finally make 8!

    - Gold Coast lose Rankine, but will go very close if King back & fit!

-Port with a bit of luck make the 8!

    - Saints no King, don’t make it, also Ryder a lose!

    - Hawks bottom after cutting too hard!

    - North will improve but bottom 4.

    - West Coast will improve but 13-18

    - Crows 12-16

    - Bombers finish 10-14 will take time to learn to defend!

    - GWS list looks weaker losing Hopper, Taranto & Braun, seems like 13-18 place!

Bit of fun to guess how it turns out, but always a few surprises on the ups & downs, as long as our Demons are top 4 that’s the key result!

I think the run of close wins is more than just luck. If you have won 6,7,8 close games it must make it easier to win the next. Belief.

Also, sometimes in a team, apart from ability, there is a particular bond or ethos that gets you over the line. Whatever that magic sauce is, the Carlton 79,81,82 team had it. St Kilda don't.

But, with the pies, whatever luck it was...I hope it has run out and they lose all the close ones ...and I hope every game is close for them in 23. They can draw against Geelong. Grundy BOG when they play Melbourne.
