"Luke's a talent and he's got every right, as every player does, to look at any offer that's coming his way, I'm pretty confident he's going to be a Melbourne player still and I know that's very far from what the consensus is out in the media."

So much for all that banter on Fox Friday night.

  2. I tend to get tired of all the talk about Jackson leaving.

Facts are we do not know what he is going to do just as "they" thought we were going to lose Brayshaw...

What also annoyed me was the "talk" during the Freo game by James Brayshaw and others treating it as a "given" that he is leaving.

On another happier note,...   The one kick, one Goal Weid surely must make way for JVR ? - Just saying... !!!

Anyway - This is my two Bobs worth.     I feel better now from within...

i've also heard talk of a Grundy chase. but we're wanting the Pies to pay a significant chunk of his salary, and the trade to be for a later pick, so a lot has to go our way for it to happen.

I think it's a good option IF it can be done on our terms.

Stand by for Oliver, Lever and BBB all out. Not convinced all are ready, Oliver still seriously hampered with busted thumb, courtesy of Kitty Litter, Lever, nup also not convinced and BBB yep that limp was most pronounced. Petty will come in for Lever. If Melksham and Bedford get another game then we are not fair dinkum as BOTH were Terrible, and yes I know Melksham kicked a goal and have a few chase downs BUT it aint anywhere near enough. Bedford has had 2 very poor games in a row and could not possibly stay. Given this information we need to pick fresh, hard, hungry players who will bleed for the jumper. My fear is if we take injured and or out of form players the Dish lickers whose form has not been great can take us to the cleaners!

Think you will be correct re Lever and Bedford but Oliver will def be in for Bedford as will Petty. BBB looked Ok at training.

Assuming we lose Jacko and have some room in the cap, Zuhaar seems like a really good option. Exact kind of player we need. Out of contract and delayed talks until end of yr.

Obviously this wouldn’t be direct compensation and we would need more as part of Jackson departing. Let’s not turn this into a Jackson thread.

    You just did.

Loved everything about the win apart from Fritta burning a team mate AGAIN, and Lever doing his AC.

I am worried about Fritta as this is the fourth week in a row he has done it and id be amazed if it hadnt already been addressed.

Have a look at every play Fritta had. He is Class.

Melksham was better than many of us expected, but still wasn't great.

We don't need all of Pickett, Bedford, Spargo, Melksham and ANB in the side. But we do, IMO, need another tall to help Brown. Jackson/Gawn aren't providing that help right now, and I'd rather Gawn sit a kick behind the play to help intercept than be forced to push forward all the time.

Tomlinson doesn't deserve to be dropped but I'm not sure we're flinging Petty forward after 18 months of him being a really, really good defender. If Lever's not fully fit then that's an easy decision (Petty for Lever) but if Lever's good to go, it's tough but I think Tomlinson goes back out.

Bedford and Melksham to be replaced by Oliver and Weid/JVR.

Probably the only other option is Sparrow for Oliver, sparing Melksham, if the FD wants Melksham in for a defensive forward job next week. I wouldn't do it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

For mine, Melks played a decent game for once but I just question his ability at his age against a Bulldogs line up. BUT having said that I feel Melks will stay but surely Bedford must go. !!!  Chandler would/should/could be a better option. Oh - and Spargo needs to lift his game in my book.

Yeah, we all agree at the Demons........

"Mr Franklin intended to strike Mr Cotchin," Gleeson said.

"He was looking directly at him. His response was spontaneous sand intentional."

It concluded a heated evening in which Franklin said Cotchin "exaggerated" the contact and the AFL counsel Andrew Woods described Franklin's action as "cowardly".

Woods said Franklin was "angry" when Cotchin bumped him off the ball.

Trent Cotchin reacts after a confrontation with Lance Franklin in Sydney's win over Richmond in round 11, 2022. Picture: Phil Hillyard

"It's an element of luck that Cotchin does not sustain a more serious injury," he said.

"It's precisely what a professional AFL player should know what not to do.

"It's brazen, it's cowardly and the opposing player isn't expecting that to happen to him.

"It's AFL, not Fight Club or a combat sport."

  9. Why are we talking about losing any players at all.

And what do you know that HQ or others maybe privy to ?

I suggest we all let nature take it's course and hope and pray that sanity prevails and the Team stays united as one.

Next thing I probably will read is all MFC players are moving to other Clubs and that Casey players are our number one Team... (Well if that happens we will still win the Premiership anyways ) . Come on guys let's support and encourage our playing group in the belief that they will be united as one.

It’s no wonder teams can’t score against us is it. Wondering where a player of Salem’s ilk fits back in is a ridiculous luxury. Brayshaw, May, Lever, Petty, Bowey, Rivers and Hunt  is just an awesome array of back talent.

Given Cameron’s role fr the lions  and what he did to us in the final last year  Hunt imo has to stay. It’s super super tough on either of them but it’s between JJ and Rivers.

This is what it’s like when you’re the premiership team and 9-0 the following year! Gotta drink this in while the era lasts. You never know the length of time it will be.

No way JJ will get dropped. Too versatile a player.

That is exactly what will happen.

    Why?

Because Bedford is next in line.

That is how goody had used the medi sub role.

And given they are clearly  following last year's successful template for all manner of things, then that is how he will continue to use the medi sub role.

I find it perplexing when posters who have followed us in the last 18 months suggest we will do things like rest players, drop nibbler (or kozzie, or spargo) because they are not kicking enough goals, change our approach when playing bottom of the ladder teams (eg by giving some young players a shot) etc etc etc.

(Note: a caveat on the comment above, I acknowledge there is sometimes some grey between what people think should happen and what they think will happen. I'm referring to what people think WILL happen).

By the by i think Bedford might also do some midfield minutes too, as he has been splitting his time at Casey between the midfield and high half forward.

Look I agree 100% with all your comments BUT my main concern is we are losing one of the sides best taggers, so I ask is Bedford the best :IN

What about Dunstan ? Just asking !!!

In the AFL era, how many West Australians have left Victoria and had good, long careers in Perth?

We need to realise that as a Club players come and go especially after a run of being on top..... and the further you are at the top the harder it becomes to recruit "excellent" players. History shows us that we will lose "valuable" players to other Clubs but the art of recruiting is making value out of those we lose.

I fear that if he gets the money that has been rumored we will lose players. My opinion is he is a second string ruckman the best in the comp at it but still a second string ruckman, Weid could do his job. Give me Brayshaw's signature over Jackson's any day far more important player. If Jackson wants to chase money let him go to West Coast or Freo.

With respect you have to compare apples with apples.

Jackson is a second year player and you are comparing him to The Weid ? and to Brayshaw who has years more experience that him.  Give him a fair go please...!!!!
