  1. POTT!
  2. I think we need to finish on top so we have the opportunity obtain a home Grand Final, we don't want to be playing in Brisbane. At the end of round 9 the situation is: Brisbane: For 490 Against 183 MFC: For 440 Against 183 We broadly need to make up 50 points on Brisbane in the final round, which I think is possible. Brisbane vs Collingwood (5th) at Metricon in Brisbane on Friday night MFC vs West Coast (16th) at Casey on Saturday We'll know what the equation is when we play.
  3. That's a pretty rubbish effort. James Harmes has already failed at HB and won't be playing there. The forward line is top heavy and there's at least one too many talls in the 22. Lachie Hunter has arrived to play on the wing and Angus Brayshaw played HB and midfield last year. Yes James Jordon is extremely unlucky not to make the best 26.
  4. 87kgs at 185cms is chonky for an 18yo - does George's size give him an advantage at U18 level that may not translate at AFL level?
  5. Saints will Saint. Gotta love 'em!
  6. According to Damian Barrett the plan may have been hatched on Lindsay Fox's recent birthday cruise from NYC to Montreal: https://www.afr.com/work-and-careers/leaders/twiggy-lew-and-eddie-all-aboard-lindsay-fox-s-5m-birthday-cruise-20220829-p5bdn1
  7. OK, his thread has gone off the rails, so what's one more push? I've got fairly broad taste in music from Puccini to George Strait to The Crystal Method and am always open to the adventure. Please hit me with the primer tracks for this genre you are talking about - select them like you want me to go further into the underwater cave, not quickly resurface for air ...
  8. I like Anson Cameron's work so this could be quite a good read.
  9. Post doesn't have enough Angus Brayshaw - without his 3rd quarter there is no flag.
  10. Luke Jackson reaped a heap of benefits from being in the 23, like I posted earlier- playing the game, the medal, the dias, the photos, the lap of honour. He deserves all those things and he deserves an MFC ring, but I also think Jayden deserves one too because he got none of those other things but made a significant contribution to the flag. Put it this way, if I was Toby Bedford trying to make a difficult decision between an MFC offer and a GWS offer and I saw that ring segregation go down, my decision would be made - GWS where do I sign.
  11. Needs a couple of Port players, Steve
  12. https://www.afl.com.au/draft/draft-order Extra 2023 1st round picks: GWS (via Richmond), Melbourne (via Freo), North (via Port), Dogs (via Brisbane) All likely to be at the back half of the 2023 1st round.
  13. Ben McKay looks the attractive option here. With Steven May getting on we need a replacement. If Daniel Turner comes on as hoped, McKay may allow Harry Petty to move forward which would kill two birds with one stone. I don't see Turner as May's replacement, Petty is currently that. McKay will be RFA and North will finish low so wouldn't match to force a trade because they won't get better than the pick 2 or 3 they'd get for compensation. That means we can retain our strong 2023 draft hand. Any other KP is going to involve an expensive trade. There'll no doubt be plenty of competition for his signature and the ball will already be rolling.
  14. Yes he is. Because he was delisted and rookied, now every time he comes out of contract, including next year, he's UFA.
  15. The 23 got the playing experience, the medallions, the dias, the lap of honour and all the photos. This was a chance for the club to honour the whole squad and, worse than miss it, they've fluffed it badly.
  16. By all reports Jayden wanted to stay at the club but was "encouraged" into Free Agency. Meanwhile Luke Jackson gets a Premiership ring.
  17. I didn't attend the MFC Best & Fairest this year, but it has been communicated to me by someone who did, that Kate Roffey spoke of an earlier function where the MFC 2021 Premiership 23 dined with the Board and were presented with "Premiership rings". I'm actually an advocate of everyone who plays at least one senior game in a Premiership year gets a Premiership medallion, but I respect and appreciate there are sound arguments against this. If the club wanted to commemorate the Premiership with MFC rings then this was the golden opportunity to award them to the entire 2021 squad. Giving them to just the 23 who played is appallingly tone deaf to the idea that it takes a full squad to win a flag and just drives a wedge in the playing group. Look no further than the May/J.Smith/Melksham incident this year to see why. I'm horrified by this totally stupid idea.
  18. I can vouch that @Rhino Richards did.
  19. Poor judge further proves his poverty.
  20. OK, you've gone with that one. I picked you as more "they're finally doing what I've been saying all along" kind of guy.
  21. I'd definitely care. Along with @Whispering_Jack and @Demonland you're the engine of the site Nasher. I've made some very valuable lifelong friendships from Demonology/Demonland and the community has enhanced my life.
  22. Renowned Charlie Spargo hater recommends Jake Aarts. You must be trolling...
  23. How about we get our first dynasty over with, it's just begun. I note recent "dynasties" Geelong, Hawthorn and Richmond didn't win the flag in the year following their breakthrough win.
  24. Cam Bruce played a lot of footy in 32 also. It was good for T.Watson and M.Ricciuto. It has got some weight.
  25. I think with the trade/FA departures and arrivals our biggest needs are: Versatile lockdown defender to replace Hibberd. Someone who can play on C.Cameron, Papley, Stengle, Elliott, even Dusty when he's forward etc. All the best teams have a dangerous small-medium forward that needs to be quelled. This is pretty urgent I think, we're probably relying on J.Smith and maybe Rivers to develop into this player. It's not an easy role to fill and takes a mature body and football brain. We could draft someone into the role but they're not going to be ready for 3 or 4 years which is too long away IMO. We need to look for someone DFA, SSP or MSD for this. Or go into next year's trade with this as a focus. Key forward. I think we should be able to cover this for the next two years with some combination of B.Brown, TMac, JVR and Max but we'll need someone ready to go in 2025 because at least 2 of those 4 will be done. That means either drafting someone this year or making a trade or FA play over the next two years for an established player. The other alternative is grooming Petty for a KPF role in that timeframe, but we will also have to replace May around then too, so that will leave a big hole to fill in the backline. We could chase a KPD in the draft or trade/FA instead of a KPF if this plan floats. They may be easier to find. Ruck or ruck-forward. Again, I think we should be fine with Grundy, Max and Schache for depth over the next two or three years. We could look for more depth with a mature SSP or MSD selection. Like with the KPF/KPD above, we'll either need to draft someone pronto or trade/FA for someone over the next 2 or 3 years. It would be ideal if we could draft someone who is capable as a ruck-forward and maybe solve two problems in one hit, but they're rare birds. Small goal kicking forward. Kossie is the answer here - he's going to be right up there with the greatest ever to play the role. But what's the certainty that we can retain him? Like I said above, all the best teams have someone dangerous in this role. I think AMW has shown some good signs at Casey and could develop into a good player here. If someone was available with these attributes at one of our picks this year I'd be happy if we took them. I think Grundy and Hunter are very good pick-ups and clearly address immediate ruck and wing needs and improve us in both areas. I'm not sure where Hunter's arrival leaves JJ and, because we delisted and re-rookied him, he's FA for life. Unless there's a spate of injuries, it's hard to see where he slots in. I'd be very sorry to lose him at the end of next year because he can play and he seems like a very good character.
