I reckon we are posturing to take Tauru at 5 so that north take him at 2 leaving us in all likelihood with Jagga Smith who might well be the best in the draft, if you're going purely by performances he's certainly in the conversation. I think we then take one of Armstrong or Travaglia with 9. The other possibility is that we do end up with Taura at 5 & then Bo Allen at 9. I'm pretty confident we'll see one of these two play out

I think pup is going to be a player for us, really like our draft picks from last year.

Saw someone say pick 5 should be immediately shut down 🤣 The blokes not carey unfortunately mate, we'll be getting this bloke for essentially nothing.

That height is wrong, he's closer to 191cm

I'd be very very nervous about trading out future pick next year unless it was pick 8 or under. We have gotten worse now for 3 consecutive years and there's never been more drama surrounding the club. Throw on top of that the looming court case and I think there's an equal chance of us finishing bottom four next year as there is top four. Unless we're getting a guaranteed high pick & player that Taylor considers a top first rounder, I wouldn't be getting involved in this gamble.

When Faced with Adversity, You Fight Back and Win
Deez Man replied to Macca's topic in Melbourne Demons
There's a lot to suggest that trading quality players actually works out better for the club trading the players. Freo now have one of the strongest lists in the comp and one that will contest for the next 6+ years. Despite losing a dual brownlow medalist (neale), THREE of the best wingers in the comp (brad hill, langdon & acres), cerra, lobb (their leading goal scorer at the time), schultz (their best small fwd at the time) & henry. Jason Taylor is in a league of his own and if we do get picks a bunch of picks for players, it's not going to be the end of the world. Go dees -
I'm happy for Tasmania to have a team but I am very worried about their ability to be able to retain talent. Tasmania has the highest amount of young men leaving their state out of any state in Australia, so much so that it's causing there to be a disproportionate amount of older generations. As a young man, I would move anywhere in the country to play afl but I wouldn't move to Tassie. I this has disaster written all over it, but I really hope I'm wrong as Tassie deserve a team and are a footballing state.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Monday 4th December 2023
Deez Man replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Went down to training with my old man today and I'll do my best to recount what we noticed. Fritsch, Kozzie & Oliver did plenty of running away from the main group. Melky looked a lot more mobile than I was expecting but didn't partake in much. Gussy was there and ran the time trial and seemed to miss out on a couple of drills but was involved in most of the day. McAdam really looks like a player we've been missing, in the match sim he was constantly leading to the right places and got on the end of a few, including one diving grab out the back. I'm prepared to say he's very likely to be in round one team - though he didn't appear to run the 2km well. Likely one of the worse performers though I don't know what his fitness was like coming to us. Based on what I saw today, Tholstrup will be in the team very early and I'm actually prepared to say he'll play round 1 and give us a really dynamic option up forward. He brought some really nice energy when playing up forward, won a 50/50 contest and snapped truly. He then kicked another goal a couple minutes later and was clean the entire session. He also ran really well and just looked really at the level already. I am very confident he's going to be a player and he's going to add to us immediately despite not wanting to put too much pressure on him. A few others mentioned how good Ben Brown looked and he really surprised me too. He was moving well, took a few really nice grabs and finished his work. My dad and I were both impressed by number 14 who we later learned was Tom Fullarton. He was involved in a lot of things and really surprised me by how well he moved and his skills for a player his size. I'm going to go out on a limb and also say he'll be in the team round 1. He ran well today too. Admittedly, he didn't get on the end of any but he was playing up the ground more. It looks like they're going to play Tmac back this year, he was in the backline and did a few good things. One interesting play billings had the ball at half forward and Tmac was marking McAdam. McAdam manage to evade him found a nice channel and Billings put it on his chest. May told Tmac keep your eyes on the ball carrier instead of your player in that scenario. Billings was being used a lot in the match sim as the player to distribute the ball inside 50 and he was heavily involved and using it quite well. He's another I think will be a big chance to play early if not round 1. Viney looked outstanding and did his usual things, max ran well, sparrow ran well and looked good. Noah Yze was a lot bigger and more mature looking than I was expecting and was running around in #46. Sestan had a good impact up forward and kicked a nice goal, his running is a mile off though. He was probably the worst of the 2km time triallers, but he's also just so big through the hips. Anyway Go Dees!- 133 replies

Last night I spoke to someone very close to Luke Jackson that told me "he's definitely not leaving Melbourne". Can't say anymore than that, I don't care if people question my legitimacy. You can take it or leave it, I'm not fussed.

I love Dogga and think he's absolutely one of the top young prospects in the competition. While I think he'll probably stay for at least 2 more years, it actually wouldn't be the end of the world if he left. He'd require two top ten picks, which is a bounty that would either put us in pole position to land Ben King (if it's this year). Or give the best recruiting manager in the country 2 cracks at finding elite talent. Neither of those scenarios is concerning (though I'd love to see dogga in the red and blue of course). It's just so good to finally feel like the best club and not be adversely affected if a young gun leaves.

A player I'd love to see the Dee's aggressively pursue is Izak Rankine of the Gold Coast Suns. After going at pick 3 behind Sam Walsh and Jack Lukosius in the 2018 'super draft' Izak Rankine hasn't delivered on his freakish potential... yet. Many experts had Izak as the number 1 pick in that draft with some saying he could even become the best player in the competition. Izak didn't feature in the 2019 season due to persistent hamstring and hip injuries. He had to wait until the 2020 season to debut after missing a full year of footy and has to be forgiven for only showing us flashes of brilliance in what was a quiet debut year as a forward in a struggling team. Watch: 2020 Highlights Izak didn't come on the way many expected he would in 2021 and in some respects appeared to have gone backwards. It is easy to forget that he is playing as a small forward in a team that finished 16th and came into the season having only played 12 AFL games. Despite having a poor year, there were still many moments that Izak was doing things that very few players can do. Watch: 2021 Highlights Izak is contracted until the end of the 2022 season and if the Suns have another poor year then Izak will be viewed as one part of the out of contract group that are seen as gettable (King, Lukosius, Rankine). While I'd love to see us make a play for King, he would cost 2 early first rounders which we simply won't be able to come up with. Rankines worth will be much harder to quanitify, the Suns might just let him go for a mid to end of first rounder if he doesn't perform in 2022 and the dee's would be able to find a way to get that done if that is the case. The big danger is that Izak has his breakout year this year and drives his price up or starts enjoying playing for Gold Coast. Reasons why we should pursue him: He has the talent to be a top 10 player in the competition He's only 21 We'd likely be getting him for less than he's worth Paired with Kozzie Pickett we'd have the two best small forwards in the game for the next 8+ years A great match for both parties with the Demons being the perfect system for him to realise his potential Reasons why we shouldn't pursue him: His attitude has been questioned and might not have the application required to realise his potential He has apparently expressed interest in returning to Adelaide though this is unconfirmed If he has a breakout year and becomes the elite talent many think he can become, then his price may become too high This opportunity reminds me a lot of when GWS were trying to give away Toby Greene for a packet of crisps or when Richmond couldn't get a pick to satisfy them for Dustin Martin. Not that they are shopping him around, but there is potential to get one of the games brightest young talents for an absolute bargain and I hope the Dees are doing everything they can to get him. The two SA clubs will be circling like vultures and as one of the best run clubs in the country I expect us to be too.
