Reminds me of a young Browny in some ways.

If you mean Jonathan Brown then I was thinking the same thing. It is notable that Brown seems to talk him up a fair bit. I suspect he see's a bit of himself in the way he plays.

Petty's most distinct trait is his persistence after an initial contest. He's got great initiative and is back in most almost immediately. I'm not pretending he's a sprinter or twinkle-toes nimble, but in that chaos that forms close to goal he has a level of alertness that really helps close up the little spaces that crumbers use for their snaps.

Plus, his disciplined defending provides a little incremental release for May and Lever to play their natural games and use their elite judgement to zone effectively and give support to other contests.

Also, if we're talking about Fritsch, well, first, why? And, second, what? And third, huh?

In addition to that he has a cool head, he is a pretty good kick and more often than not he makes the correct decision when he has the ball in hand.

I disagree with that.  Its all about timing.  Other clubs do it quite a bit.

Geelong last season managed their seniors beautifully.

Brad Scott openly managing Dyson Heppell this week etc.

Maybe, but we are hardly setting the world on fire at the moment, and we need to build some momentum.

Similar here... feels like a great opportunity to manage up to two or three seniors was missed.

Managing players for a game against a supposed lesser opponent smacks of arrogance. We need to bank as many wins as we can over the next few weeks.

    Disappointed I've only included 7 x 2021 flag team

Agreed, it was a tough decision. The way I looked at it was, would I find a place in the side for the players from different era’s?

That said, there is no guarantee that players from other eras would excel in the modern game, with the exception of Robbie perhaps.

I find Watchafl to be the most frustrating service.

The games live are fine, but on replay they edit out all content between quarters and even now trim time after goals.

They now cut as much of the channel 7 coverage as possible, switching back to the Foxtel team in a sad studio nowhere near the game.

Do Foxtel management even watch afl?

I’m going to try the @Hatchmansolution

How did it go No10? I am away from 6 weeks from Anzac eve in Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore? I don't particularly want to pay fro Watch AFL given I am already paying for Kayo.

Lifetime goes back to the start of the 83' season I guess, but clear memory I'll go from the 92' season onwards.

    FB: Wight, May, Whelan

HB: S. Febey, Ingerson, B. Lovett

    C: Tingay, Oliver, Langdon

    HF: Lyon, Schwarz, Green

    FF: Stynes, Jakovich, Farmer

    FOLL: Gawn, Jones, Petracca

INT: Bruce, J. McDonald, Neitz, Yze

Many a player to apologise to for not making the cut. Honourable mentions to:

Davey, Jurrah, T. Viney, J. Viney, Lever, N. Brown, Leoncelli, S. Woewodin, Bennett, Shanahan, Bizzle, Charles, Jetta, T. McDonald and probably many more I'm forgetting...

I was in two minds about Ingerson, he was a great player. As I was doing my list I realised, that in my time, I have never seen a truly great CHB.

  9. My parents weren't really into the footy, Dad  nominally followed the Hawks and Mum was a Dee's fan, due to her Dad being a keen Melbourne supporter.

I think at about 4 years of age I found a North Melbourne medallion at school, and I loved the Kangaroo symbol, and declared myself a North supporter.

i proudly showed my Grampa, who i think was mortified. My older brother had chosen Richmond, and my sister had sold her soul to Hawthorn. I reckon my Grampa sensed he wouldn't have a grandchild who followed the Dee's, so on my next birthday my present was a Melbourne jumper, and that began my journey as a Demon.

All my siblings kids (except for my older brothers kids) received a red and blue jumper for their 1st birthday, so I am continuing a long tradition.

    2) He (as reported) isn't in love with Melbourne (the town) and just doesn't see himself settling here. Byron aside. Driving to Casey every day would do that I think. But some people, particularly those from remote locations, just never take to the bigger city. Koz might be one of them and that might just be our lot.

I have often wondered how much the lockdowns in Melbourne affected some of the younger players.

Kozzy, Riv and LJ all came over just before we went into endless lockdown, and never really got to see what Melbourne was like pre-pandemic.  At that age it is peak social life, but they missed it all.

Another reason why putting all your faith in a 31 y.o with history isn't wise.

I'm not having a go at people down in the dumps and I'm very down in the dumps myself. But it is still a team sport.

People talk about Max like he's the second coming of our lord, he's everything and a bag of chips but we also watch our club every week. I had friends in Adelaide who said the same about Primus, West Coast couldn't win one without Nic Nat. Hell I have Richmond friends that watch Jack Reiwoldt every week and feel the stuff he does makes him the most important forward in the comp.

I know people don't want to hear about comparisons because Max provides more than any of those but these case studies are all we have to draw on. There is literally no point at all bashing guys like Grundy round the head saying that he's not Gawn and that no-one is. We get it, he's almost irreplaceable.

It's become apparent to me that we've all got different ways of dealing with this and I'm gonna stay clear of here for a few hours. Chins up.

i agree with you on most points, but the it feels like our team structure is built around having two ruckman in the side. Take one man out of it and we go to water. I reckon Schache might get a look in next week if he plays well.

The real worry for me is that we don't have someone waiting in the wings to take on the ruck duties when Gawn and Grundy retire. Verrall and Farris-White are speculative at best.

  12. 6 - Lever

    5 - BBB

4 - Grundy (he has copped a fair but on here, but we would have been humiliated if he wasn't playing)

    3 - Oliver

    2 - Hunter

    1 - Fritsch

Oliver and Hunter really only in the votes because of their last quarter efforts. Oliver was the spark in the last 12 minutes. I recall someone saying earlier in the week that Oliver wasn't a game changer, his efforts when they came back on after the blackout put to bed that argument.

When the ball is kicked to congestion and TMac is there, and doesn't mark it, he at least creates something for the crumbers. I need to go back and watch the replay but he was instrumental in at least one goal last night when he bullocked his way through the pack.

Actually, i was wrong, i just watched all the goals, and it was Ben Brown.

Was impressed by the noise the crowd made last night. We didn't need the embarrassing make some noise snippets that come up on the big screen that we used in last years finals.

Great Sub choice.  Milkshake is a very smart footballer that can play middle and ahead of the  ball, but might not be as fast or have the legs of the others.  Bring him on as a sub when others have slowed a bit and let him get to work.  He contributed straight away.   A tactical masterstoke? (I think so)

I reckon we could have one a few of the close games we lost last year if we had Melky as the super sub.

Amazing is the only word that comes to mind. It amazes me how people are down on Tmac. He does a lot of un noticed work. The opposition knows if they don’t put a good player on him he will kill you. They say you don’t appreciate someone until they are not there. Witness last year we were never the same without him in the second half of last year.

After waiting for months the day has finally arrived and getting to and from game is proving to be interesting. I only go to night games at this time of the year however tonight is testing my resolve. Train trip will take 1 hour 40 mins with three changes, normally 45 mins. Limited parking at the G so looks like I am parking in the city and traming it to the G. Is it any wonder people don’t go to games. Couple of Pie friends ( yes I have some) took 2 hours to get home last night when it is usually 40 minutes. After looking for an upside the only one I can think of is it may stop a lot of dogs fans going.

    Go Dees!

We have coach replacements from Gisborne. If i leave at 4:30PM and then walk from Southern Cross station, I should arrive at 3 quarter time.
