Port demonstrated that Geelong are susceptible to pressure - if we can apply similar pressure from the start on Thursday we will win well: if not we will struggle.

If we apply the same pressure we applied on Monday we'll win every game.

My understanding is the broadcaster places microphones strategically, to ensure the loudest noises/cheers/boos etc. Makes sense, right? So that's a bit of a furphy as well. The true test is at the ground itself. It sounds like we heard it differently.

Again, obviously, this is influenced by where you sit to an extent as well, but I've never heard a big game with 80,000+ fans so quiet for large patches of the match. It was eerily quiet at points as if the crowd was holding its collective breath. Influenced in part by the low scoring of course.

It was quite an unusual game in that respect, but I can't recall the last time we dominated Collingwood in general play in Melbourne (we did in that Gabba game in 2020), so to me it was a combination of inevitably that we'd hit the front from the Collingwood supporters and potentially the fact Collingwood had spent a week laying the ground for excuses about COVID, flu and missing players.

Plus, the psychological benefits of already being three games clear at the top, all of these factors, IMV, influenced the noise level of their mob. I’ve never sat around so many Collingwood supporters who were so subdued for pretty much the entirety of a game. Last year they were absolutely insufferable.

Yeh there was a bit of poetic license with that - at least one pie around me was clapping.

They were quiet because they couldn't get it past the centre.

I was specifically talking about the long Melbourne chant, Koz. I think it’s considered fitting for when the game is well and truly sewn up before the final siren. That’s when the likes of Collingwood do it. Another thing we do that divides the cheer squad is when we look certain to win, when there’s a minute left on the clock we sing Grand Old Flag. Some members love this, some not so much. We didn’t do it yesterday because doing the Melbourne chant then them getting so close shut us up real quick. 😂

Yeah I get that WCW. It was awesome! I was joining in from the members!! I don't know who invented the rule that you can only do that when the game is won. Collingwood should have been singing their stupid song all through the last quarter to lift their side. Anyway - great work done by the cheer squad as usual.

You’re not the only one! Probs best to only ever do that when we’re 10 goals up with a minute left on the clock. 🤣

Being a massive soccer fan I find this a bit weird. Chanting doesn't mean the game's over. You just do it to support the team. We should do it when we're behind!!

I would hope it'd be like the end of 2021. The negative posters disappeared and the positive posters stayed humble.

The positive posters know how long we were terrible for and as I said to another Melbourne supporter who was giving it to his Carlton mate last week, I said stay humble mate.

I understand not everyone is like this, but to be fair to Demonlanders, I reckon the positive were pretty humble after all the negativity during the middle of 2021.

Society needs both optimistic and negative people. We've evolved this way. I'm naturally more optimistic but we do need negative people. This certainly comes through with how people support their footy teams.

We always got blisters (in the Army) - both feet, really all-day nasty ones in the old GP boots. The medics came around every evening and lavished methylated spirits very generously on our feet. Wake up in the morning -  - - gone! Ration pack, coffee, march on for another day, every day.

Friars balsam always does the trick.

ALWAYS welcome to sit with us. Yes you risk losing an eyeball or being concussed by a snap-shot at goal, but you do so with so much fun and excitement. 🥰

Our official bay at home games is M3 but as of the beginning of this season we now unofficially have M4 as well. This is great for those who want to see the action up close and personal but without being ensconced in the bedlam and chaos that is the front of M3. As well, drinking is permitted in M4.

I used to sit behind the cheer squad when I was a teenager - might be time to wind back the clock!

Thank you, greatly appreciated, I spend far too much time of my life obsessing over weird things.

i agree that the atmosphere is far more pro Melbourne but I come from the AFL reserve where the atmosphere is full of hostile barracking and I am one of the few Melbourne supporters in there that that stick up for us. Unfortunately the MCC wouldn’t appreciated my shouting so I stick to the southern stand with all the ferals like me :)

😂 it sounds like I belong in the AFL members!! I must admit I haven't gone in there since I was a kid.

42 is 50 year members bay and they are silent anyway and 46 is committee who are silent too. 37-40 is dining bays. So really only 43,44,45 and 47 who can drink. All they can have is mid strength in cups.

i have sat in the mcc twice for Melbourne games and the atmosphere sucks one being Anzac eve last year.  It’s dead and quiet and is the reason our crowd seems so quiet compared to other Melbourne sides.

personally prefer the zoo of the afl reserve.

Fearthebeard your knowledge of ticketing is very impressive!!

I have to disagree on the atmosphere in the MCC. My first 16 odd years of watching Melbourne I was in the outer. The last 15 years in the members and the members is better for atmosphere mostly because it's a pro-Melbourne crowd compared to the outer.

But I can't reiterate enough how much I love your work on ticket stuff!!
