Funny how Geelong AFLW knew how to play us in the finals, I don’t think that it was a coincidence. Daisy is going to be a very good coach wherever she ends up.

Think there is a bit to this DeeZone but I also think that Adelaide and Brisbane also provided a bit of a blueprint on how to beat us. Physicality and pressure is our kryptonite. Beat us at the contest and pressure us to deny us our running game.

Have a look at the size and shape of the mids for both sides playing this weekend in the GF.  They are all strong, muscular and solid.

We cannot afford to lose a player like West, since she can withstand the rigours of the mid-field that is required today to be successful.

Lose her and we finish up putting Heath and Mithen inside, and was proven in the finals series...that doesn't work any more in 2023 and beyond.

Couldn’t agree more George. Further to what you have said we were bullied physically by Adelaide, Brisbane and North. Westy is not in the team for her disposal but what she does well is provide a strong body that is good in the contest which seems to be the way for the AFLW midfielder. She’s a keeper for me if she can focus on wining the ball on the inside and distributing by hand to our runners more.Personally not too fussed about losing Sheriff or Birch. Will be an interesting off season where we could do with a bit of a clean out of some players that are “injury prone” and we have a few light bodied outside players that I think we could afford to lose. How brave our list management team will be is of interest.

Geelong is a different matter. Lots of votes and multiple electorates. Labor and Liberal governments (think Bracks-Baillieu- Andrews) have thrown money down there.

Bracks  and Baillieu were also both Geelong supporters which helps.

Caulfield is the only option which is currently subject to a funded feasability study.

I’ll do the feasibility study for a slab of beer. It’s feasible, just [censored] build it. Where do I send the invoice?

I'm just reading on the AFL website that Collingwood will start their preseason at Gosches due to resurfacing works:

    https://www.afl.com.au/news/1066756/collingwood-magpies-invite-vafa-star-sam-sofronidis-for-trial-ahead-of-ssp-opening

What the actual [censored]? Please don't tell me we're stepping aside to accommodate those [censored]. I don't give a toss that we have Casey to train at. They can [censored] off somewhere else.... preferably Bairnsdale

Why can’t they train at Victoria Park, it hosts AFLW games.

  6. As it currently stands the only teams that benefit from the academies are the northern states teams. There is no incentive for teams in Victoria to put any resources into them here as there is no benefit other than just having a presence. The only teams that benefit from the academies down here are the Coates League teams.

Firstly who gives a flying f what this guy thinks. But to give Collingwood an A! [censored] he must be vying for the MRO position.

Written by a bloke called Jasper, I rest my case. Sincere apologies to anyone reading this called Jasper……. Your parents have a lot to answer for.

Another big bodied competitive beast..oh  wait!

No that would be our next pick Tholstrup. Windsor will help with speed of ball movement, connection and most importantly efficiency between our mids and forwards which has been an issue for years and is a big reason why we have gone out in straight sets in final’s two years on a row. Can also score a goal himself. Also provides a lot of chase down tackles which would indicate a competitive nature. Our team is all inside and not much outside., let alone guys that can hit a target by foot.Glad we have addressed this personally getting in Billings and now Windsor. Welcome to the club Caleb.

Feels like too "corporate", if that is an actual way to describe it.

Absolutely get where you are coming from. Last year it was “ Demon Spirit” merchandise for finals. This year it was “ Possessed” merchandise. To the Melbourne Football Club, please no more slogans just let your football do the talking. Win finals, especially finals in Melbourne. That will put dollars in the bank account and give us more credibility.

    very different players

west might've been good today, but there's a reason she was dropped last week

Aside from a few feet in height not really, they are both poor kicks. But they have their obvious strengths and they have a role to play in the team. I just want them to stick to their strengths and not bite off more than they can chew. Granted Westy turned the ball over against Brisbane but we got beaten up badly in the midfield physically against North and that is why she was back in the team today and shouldn’t have been dropped in the fist place. Personally I would have dropped McNamara who was again ineffective today costing us 2 goals from her turnovers. Dropped chestmark in the second and a turnover kick in the third. McNamara tries but it’s not happening for her and think West has more value to the team than McNamara. Will be an interesting off season for the list management team.

This team fell into a very dark hole in the final three games. We know they are better than this, but it seems no one around them knew how to convince the players of that fact before it was too late. I'm calling it; an insipid performance by the coaching team. I'm not calling for heads to roll, at least not the main man, but something was missing from the support group. Get Daisy back asap!

Couldn’t agree more. Massive fan of Mick and what he has done with this group but I think he had a poor finals series. Questionable team selection, apparent change of forward structures. So frustrating to constantly see forwards push so far up the ground with nobody at home.Allowing so many uncontested marks throughout the finals series was inexcusable. Allowing opposition to play spares behind the ball and not counter that cost us as we kept turning the ball over. Not employing a tag on Geelong midfield until Goldy went in there. List needs a bit of a shake up it will be an interesting off season for our AFLW program. I also strongly believe that not playing at Casey today also cost us a win today, I may be on my own on that. I realise for many it is not a popular ground but it is our home ground and the facilities for players are excellent the weather conditions variable but advantage to us. One that got away unfortunately.

  12. We will learn a bit about the group today, hoping there are not too many scars from last week. Glad to see Westy back and Purcell starting in the middle. Hoping to see plenty of overlap run and switch kicks to get our running game going. Also really want us to hold our shape a bit more. For me our forwards have been pushing too high up the ground and wingers drifting to the wrong side of the ground. Let’s get back to playing our roles, let the bulls win the ball on the inside and get the ball on the outside and spread. Forwards have got to play in front this week and make any loose players in our forward line accountable. We can’t afford to go into our shells for this game, be brave and take the game on. Think we will have too much firepower for Geelong, as much as today is about getting the win we need to send a message to the rest of the competition but also reinforce to ourselves that we are good enough and can go back to back if we play our brand of football.

I like the monogram. But think below the V would help with the symmetry of the other logos,  thoughts?

Hopefully our forwards can now get hit on the logo!!

Really like your design Gunna’s. In regards to our forwards I just want them to get it between the two big sticks.
