Thats from the homeland of one Trav Johnstone.... so i see your point.

Not quite, Trav is from my club of Chelsea although these days he coaches Bonbeach Under 12 boys but do see him at a few Chelsea games. Local rivalry aside it’s more the culture of Edi-Asp. They are not a particularly well liked club down this way and with good reason. He is deservedly nicknamed  Travis Bongstone, everything you have heard about him is probably true.

  2. Tayla is a real impact player and also a selfless role player. A beautiful kick and can take a grab. If she is not tacking marks she is splitting the pack and getting the ball to ground where our smalls are ready more often than not. She doesn’t need to dominate the stats sheet every week to contribute Good luck defending a forward line of Harris, Zanker, Hore and Bannon. We are lucky that we have the depth to cover her but we are no doubt a better team when she is playing.

I know several people very close to the redevelopment at Caulfield. My understanding is they would happily welcome Melbourne there but Dees don’t have anywhere close to the $ they want (as it stands).

Interesting, wouldn’t have thought we were way off $$$$. Sale of Bentleigh Club and years of generous donations from Foundation Heroes would have raised a healthy deposit. No doubt we would rely on some level of government funding. Sincerely hope we get it as Caulfield for me ticks so many boxes.

So when Petty goes to Adelaide at the end of 2024 and May retires at the end of 2026 and "Trac, Clarry, Viney and Bradshaw" are all still playing, will Sanders be playing key defence?

No, but Turner might. Understand where you are coming from but question marks over Brayshaw and also Clarry, Viney a warrior but getting on also. But right now our premiership window is still open, our backline is not an issue. To take that next step we need a bit of class and polish and I believe some speed as well to help with that connection between our mids and forwards. We have also lost midfield depth with Dunstan, JJ and Harmes we need to replenish mids for the now. Next year trade or draft for Key Position Defenders.

  5. It is a genuine pleasure to watch these girls play live. Went with my daughter and a few of her friends that I coach and you learn a lot from watching this team. They are selfless and disciplined and play their roles really well. Gillard is a rock in defence her ability to spoil but hit it to the advantage of a team mate that is in position ready for the spoil is second to none. Our ability to win the ball on the inside and get it outside by handball and use chains of handball to move it is outstanding. Sometimes they can use one too many handballs but you wear that. We are usually good by foot but I thought we were a bit off there last night. There was a bit of a breeze but didn’t think it was a big factor. North hardly fired a shot after the first quarter largely due to our defensive pressure.Agree with the crowd a bit disappointing and North did not show up at all. After the game the girls went down to the fence and after the team sang the song they go around the boundary and engage with the fans. The girls asked Kate Hore and Banno for selfies and they obliged. But what struck me was that after the selfies they said to the girls “thanks for coming and supporting us” Others that high fives the girls also thanked them for coming.Honestly people get around this team, they play a bloody good brand of football and they are humble and fantastic role models. They make you proud to be a Melbourne supporter which is great as over the last few weeks especially my pride as a supporter has been dented. Go Dees!!!!!!!!!

  6. I understand the lure of home and if a club in your home state throwing some serious coin at you it is tempting, show a bit of respect to the club that was very proactive and strong in supporting you during the Zorko incident. Pretty ordinary performance Harry and I’m not talking about your golf.

Stafford is an easy target. He might be the problem, he just as easily might not be. He's been dealing with makeshift personnel since 2021.

The one thing I truly believe is our forward line does a better job helping our backline defend than our backs do helping our forwards score.

We have to be prepared to give up the occasional bad turnover goal, open up space in our defensive 50 and even get short a defender out of position by our backs being prepared to run and spread the ball.

A simple rule of in one side, out the other for our backs will do wonders for scoring. No more bombing it down the line it came in on.

Bang on. I just want us to put a bit more value on offence. We work so hard and well behind the ball to set up and defend but we lack the same urgency when transitioning from defence to offence. We can win the ball in the back half and switch the kick but we don’t see players busting a gut to push over to that side of the ground which is the fat side to be an option. I noticed at our B  & F that Goody made a point of acknowledging Mick Stinnear and our AFLW team in particular the brand they play. I really hope that he adopts some of those methods and becomes more offensive. Have said it before and I stand by it I actually enjoy watching our AFLW team play more than our male team. It is not necessarily because of the results it is purely gamestyle. It would also be a more enjoyable brand to play as a player as well.

Certainly looking like Curtin is going to be the player left for us at pick 6.

Assuming we can't get up any higher, I wonder if the club will take him there or have a different player in the mix like Caddy or O'Sullivan.

I would be more than happy with Curtin.

I would be really disappointed if we went for O’Sullivan first. Not our immediate need now while the window is still slightly open. May for me was our player of the finals and we can think of replacing him in a few years time. We need pace, skill in our midfield to front half.

  9. If Hawks get Ginnivan then not sure they will get Watson so I think he goes to the Doggies. I am a massive Watson fan and have seen a bit of him this year and would love to pick him up as I think he is an upgrade on all of our smalls .Would be an excitement machine like Jackovich or Jurrah where fans are up off seats when he is near the ball.

My Nana would come up with a better forward half game plan than Goody and Stafford.

    1. Alternate leads, space it out.

    2. Less bombing into forward line, and when it does, Kozzie stay down PLEASE.

    3. Even if a grub kick comes in, Koz is faster than a lot of defenders.

    4. Lower the eyes, the amount of times long bombs come flying in only to go straight to the opposition, it’s enough to send you bonkers.

    5. Move it in quick, don’t give opposition time to ‘set up’.

    6. Don’t rely on Gawn on a set shot, he’s a putrid kick for a professional footballer, even with the ‘apparent’ master coach Choco in his corner.

Tap BBB on the shoulder tell him he’s cooked and give home the role of forward coach restructure has contract and frees up a spot on the list.Move Stafford to specialist ruck and stoppage coach. If all that fails give Roy Boy’s Nanna the gig, I think she is onto something there.

He is tiny, gets plenty of it but sprays them everywhere. Sounds perfect for us.

He was the leading goal scorer in the national under 18 championships which tells me he kicks a few as well. Great effort for a small.

Without mentioning sources etc, I have been told Shane McAdam and Fogarty has been suggested by the dees for a round 1 selection. No me tion of what pick was to be utilised or multiples

Wouldn’t mind recruiting Fogarty, even if it’s for only 1 game. The return game against Collingwood, get home to smother a Brayden Maynard kick.

I won't get started on that debacle but the LFC and Klopp handled this in the absolute best way possible.

I would like to see our club meet certain decisions and issues with a bit more resistance. I was so proud of the way we fought the JVR charge however there have been moments this year where I felt we just copped our whack and didn't respond. For most of the second half of the year at games I would watch Gawn for an extended period of time, I needed to see for myself if the treatment off the ball he received was as bad as people had been saying. If anything it was worse, there were the knees in the back and rib ticklers but the number of times Max's head was targeted left me a little queasy. The time has come for us to ask the AFL for a please explain on this because seeing the big American with a medal round his neck is giving me a real Dean Wallis feeling.

There was also the Maynard and Brayshaw tribunal ruling. I don't know what grounds we had to pipe up about it but I would like to have seen some kind of pressure put on the AFL to appeal this decision. The fact that the defence's argument that Brayshaw's deviated running line basically caused the concussion was unchallenged or even questioned is frankly abhorrent as a look and I say this as a neutral football fan who loves the richness of the game but cares about the future of it with regards to head safety and health.

It's not even over yet, if the AFL over extend with North's assistance package will we make a sound? I doubt it. I know North have been down longer but that opens up the integrity debate for another post.

Agree mate. Clarrie getting held at most stoppages. Worst example being the lights out game against the Lions at the Gabba. They were holding all of our kids, I thought I was watching an episode of dancing with the stars and occasionally a game of football would break out. All it takes is for Max to wander over to the umpires and say “there are 4 of you [censored] out there any danger you can watch what is going on and blow your whistle” You could add the AFL taking Darwin off us as a zone and give it to the suns leaving us with Alice Springs. We could go on and

on  but you’re right we just cop our whack and get on with it. I don’t want us to turn into serial whingers but every now and then I would love them to publicly fly the flag.

But how does anyone know we don’t call things out? Is it because it’s not splashed across the media? For all we know our Club does call things out but nothing is done about it.

Liverpool Football Club acknowledges PGMOL’s admission of their failures last night. It is clear that the correct application of the laws of the game did not occur, resulting in sporting integrity being undermined.

We fully accept the pressures that match officials work under but these pressures are supposed to be alleviated, not exacerbated, by the existence and implementation of VAR.

It is therefore unsatisfactory that sufficient time was not afforded to allow the correct decision to be made and that there was no subsequent intervention.

That such failings have already been categorised as “significant human error” is also unacceptable. Any and all outcomes should be established only by the review and with full transparency.

This is vital for the reliability of future decision-making as it applies to all clubs with learnings being used to make improvements to processes in order to ensure this kind of situation cannot occur again.

In the meantime, we will explore the range of options available, given the clear need for escalation and resolution.

Above is a real contemporary example of what I would like to see in terms of communication from the Melbourne FC to its members from another sporting passion of mine. It’s short, sharp, strong and respectful. As a supporter I know that my club is onto it, but I don’t have that same level of faith in the MFC as we don’t know because we don’t hear much.
Have the AFL had a good year well commercially yes but operationally I would say no. I just want Melbourne to be seen to be a bit more vocal or transparent about issues that affect our club. You don’t have to be areseholes about it but I just see us as a very nice club that tells opposition players that their nose is bleeding and to clean it up. Nice doesn’t always win. I want us to win. Until such time we will continue to play Geelong in Geelong.
