  1. Yeah, its a topic that has been covered before, but I thought I'd begin anew in case there's been innovation in the field, so here goes:

What is the cheapest/best value way to get footy on the TV or streaming app? Free to air sux, obviously, and Kayo is comprehensive but expensive and Foxtel is even more so. Any other alternatives?

In explanation, now that I'm back in Aus permanently, membership/attendance is competing with TV coverage for a limited supply of $AUD, so... I turn to Demonland for help and support. I mean, where else?

Good read, thanks for that. We have Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney and GW$ for 20,000 viewers on TV

Is it worth it? AFL Headquarters will say it’s a raging success. I disagree.
Last Wednesday’s State of Origin would have really [censored] the AFL right off. It was an absolute Classic

The AFL cannot generate that rivalry up North. In Melbourne we had similar rivalries (1950’s to 1990’s) but personally i think the passion has wained a little in the last 20 odd years over all. The Suburban ground was lost to Marvel “Soulless” Stadium

GW$ and Gold Coast will never run themselves

I've been living overseas for 20 years. The first time I returned to Aus and went to Marvel, I cam away feeling as if the place had been designed form the foundation s up to fleece the customer of as much cash as possible. Even the pies are more expensive there.

The game and the identities are not the same, but things always change, don't they? IMO, its the result of the age of debt which is hopefully coming to an end now. There are too many teams and the talent is definitely spread too thin. If we think in terms of 'elite talent,' then F1 has 20 drivers. That's 20 in the entire world. Of course, there are hundreds of engineers, so the analogy falls down somewhat, but that's truly elite. Comparing AFL to American football, imagine a single US state with a population halfway between Texas and Florida, running a league of 18 lists of 44 players. How elite would that league be? Not very elite.

  3. When I find myself yelling "run!" and "run the ball!" in frustration at the TV, I know we are in trouble. Another one of those games where we don't play to our strengths, bombing it long and going slow, slipping and fumbling and too darn soft.....

Injuries don't bode well, but I reckon we'll be back after the bye.

If you've ever been to a game of ice hockey in the States, you will have experienced the brain-deadening effect of constant lights, music, gimmicks, etc, ad nauseum, literally taking up every spare second between "the play". Let's say the ref calls a stoppage. Immediately music blares AND I MEAN BLARES as the ref sorts out the players, holds up the puck and drops it onto the ice to restart play. The music only stops when the puck hits the ice. The whole thing can take 3 seconds. Three whole seconds where the viewing audience is deemed to be in desperate need of flashing lights, noise and stimulation. That happens over and over and over and over again throughout the game, and then there's the pre-game [censored], not to mention in between quarters (yeah, I know, there's only 3 of them) ... constant noise, announcements, TV screens everywhere, kiss cam, [censored] cam, on and on and on it goes.

At the MCG, the inane ground announcer and the music played at volumes hostile to conversation rate about one out of ten compared to the full on numbing trauma of the NHL. Robbo's Haymes paint thing looks like a country school fete in comparison to the full body assault of the NHL. Be very afraid!

Baseball is very similar..... Went to watch the game and it was the least thing on most people's minds. Very disappointing from an Aussie's POV. Bloody hell, just turn it all off! Maybe get Jack Viney to do an ad, "Even without fan activation, you still have a game kids can love...."

We do not play AFL (Australian Football League), we play Australian Football or if you wish Australian Rules Football. I know it has become popular to call the game AFL, but they are just the administrators, not the game.

Lots of people overseas refer to it as AFL. Gives me the $h*!t$...

any attempt to be more attacking this year will be more focused on making our forward line function better

Maybe we are a little hazy in the GF aftermath, but our forward line was dodgy most of last season. If not dodgy, then at least unsettled or less than optimal..... or some other politically pedantic term or phrase. I reckon this season will see that piece of the puzzle in place, and I'm backing BBB for the Coleman and another two of us in the top ten to fifteen.

Cool at night, but a lovely day today, gets a bit windy on occassion. I am getting to know the area, we have a house near Tower Hill. I spend two days a week cutting the weeds they grow so quick.

Not too many Dee supporters but enough, the colours are being worn around town.

So you're not from the area? Get over to Port Fairy. Take the walk around Griffiths Island around sunset and keep an eye out for the wallabies.

I'm guessing the Koroit boys won the Hamden League again...?

Oz is expensive but I always put that down to the sheer size of our  land.

Yeah, the tyranny of distance, to quote an old one. Tiny population.

Havign said that, see my note above re prices in the middle east. And I'm in a tiny country with a tiny population.....

internet in Thailand is 3 x faster and no more than $25 bucks a month. Aussie internet, mobiles etc is obscenely expensive. I dont know why.

Try the Middle East. My calculations on the Superloop+Boost combo I mentioned is 47% of the price it is here, and that's with twice the speed and data....

Hey, Grr-owl…. That’s when we’re expecting to return. We might have to navigate a lot of stuff around that time. Phone plans, electricity suppliers, furnishings, etc. But the daunting thing is the move and the crazy costs associated with it. Bonne chance, ami.

Yeah, I've been looking into plans......it's so complicated. Seems that Superloop is best for home net, Boost 12mth for mobiles...

Then there's gas and electricity.... Oh, boy. My bro says Dodo do a net+gas+electricity deal that's good.

Good luck to you too. I'll message you if we find a good deal on movers.....

  12. Resigned officially yesterday and am returning to Aus in August 2022. Yeah I know there was another thread about this, but I couldn't search it up, so I'm asking it again: What is the best/cheapest/simplest way to get the footy on TV in Aus?

I'm used to the Fox Footy coverage and want to continue with that. Don't want Foxtel or any other cable service with endless "documentaries" about killer sharks or reality shows about man-kini surfer truckers. I vaguely recollect Binman recommending Kayo.....
