But we need to find one. I’m hoping Jason Taylor has had enough time since the Brayshaw retirement and more importantly as been told to look for a ready made replacement.

Its not that our Era/Window is closing, its more that other clubs have come into their own making it harder to win a 🏆.

yup 100% i do think our Midfield is very thin with losing Gus, Sparrow hasn't taken that next step unfortunately.  Hopefully JT has something up his sleeve

  2. A list of former AFL listed players that have nominated.

I was keen on Teakle at the start of the year and think we should seriously look at him.  The few games he played for port he showed he was a capable ruckman and not bad up fwd either.  At least a good backup if anything happened to max.

The other worth looking at is Bianco, good footballer who maybe needed that drive after being delisted to get to the next level.

I really think Teakle is a go though, i have heard from a couple of Port people i know he may have attitude issues though.

I think anyone taken in the mid season draft would go hand in hand for development. If they’re good enough to take for immediate impact and come off they would be good enough to develop.

Essendon-Nick Martin, Pies-John Noble, Eagles took Maric last year, Richmond took Marlon Pickett.

The talent it there, you just have to find it and given we lost Brayshaw early I’m sure we have been having a good look!

And I’d argue any Key Forward showing promise at VFL/WAFL level would be better than anything we have atm.

Fair point re Ruckman being a longer shot, but we only have 1.5 back up options in the VFL.

I think you highlighted my point.  Of that list you put up there is 1 Key position player.

And Picket was an SSP yes but was also an AFL player before that.  Midfielders you will find.  Key position you wont.

You can argue that about the Key fwds but the fact is there are very few Key fwds and Def in the AFL, so if they are worth it they would be listed.  Big difference to being a good stay at home forward in the lower levels compared to covering 8-12km per game in the AFL.

You may not have pre listened to my question @Demonland.

But given the Mid Season Rookie draft is 7 days away (9 at the time of recording) didn’t appreciate the dismissive answer to yeah it’s ages away..

From what I see 12 clubs have at least 1 spot available and some even 2 or Brisbane, north and Richmond.

If you don’t think this is important, it’s a very short sighted view, given the clubs depth up forward and in the ruck atm.

Theres a Key Forward playing for the pies who looks likely and a ruckman in geelong that could be of significant interest!

Unfortunately rucks and key fwds that are not already in AFL systems are no good.

They dont have the fitness base and 0 idea of systems.  This is why teams switch players positions rather than grab lower level Key positions.

Very few SSP players have had success at AFL level let alone Key position.

This would work however if you are taking someone with the view of the future and developing them.  But that won't help us this yr

  5. I'm sure this has been done before, but i need to take my mind off the game on the weekend.

Who in the current AFL system is your favourite couple of players outside of the Dees?

Im not talking best/gun players just players you like to watch!

For me its :  Errol Gulden and Dan Houston

Both classy players that look smooth with ball in hand.

Big body? He’s built like Tyrion Lannister with half the physicality.

Assuming Langdon is back we don’t need an experience wing for positioning, especially not one who isn’t winning the contests at Casey and is super slow.

What we need is more hard running, attacking the contest and quick ball use.

Its time to give Woewodin an extended run of games either at half back or as the third winger, rotate all of Windsor, Woey and Langdon across half forward for pace. Or if Woey’s back we use ANB as 3rd wing and play another mid forward.

Woey isn't a winger, i actually like him as a lock down back pocket.

Hunter is 183cm and a nugget, we need footy smarts.  Running gets you nothing if it's to the wrong spots, and unfortunately our guys are not good at that.  If we coukd find another 2 Windsors id be happy!!  Im not asking for Hunter to get 20 and kick 2.  But if he has 15 and goes at 80% thats what we need atm.  Which is suppost to be what Billings is for

No Hunter in my team. Has done little at Casey and not part of our future IMO.

Who cares about future, he is a solid AFL standard player.  We have a list that can push for top 4 this year, he is a part of that.

Our midfield is very thin after losing Dunstan, Harmes, Jordan.  Unfortunately our kids are too small, Hunter is a bigger body and has good ball use.

We need a bit of stability and smarts in the middle of the ground, he is a better option than Billings.

  8. FB: Bowie  May  McVee

    HB:  Rivers  Petty  TMac

    C:  Langdon  Viney  Windsor

    HF:  ANB  Fritsch  Kossie

    FF:  Chandler  JVR  McAdam

    Fol:  Gawn  Oliver  Petracca

    Int:  Salem  Sparrow  Hunter  Howes

    Woewodin(Sub)

    In: Langdon, JVR, Hunter

    Out: Lever(inj), Brown, Billings

Petty to def to cover Lever and get a bit of form, give McAdam another go and use he and Fritsch as lead up fwds in a smaller fwd line.

Hunter comes in for some midfield depth and ball use. Langdon and JVR no brainers.

He doesn't look 100% fit and he will be 34 next year.

Of course he will still dominate in some games but, how much longer can we expect him to keep going?

Career best form and best in the league. Im not talking about age ect.  You've lost it if you think he looks slow and past it

It may be time to rethink and plan ahead.

Use this season to develop the team of the future.

That includes what are we doing with our coaching staff (starting with the Ruckman who is training our forwards).

I have some hope in our yourn guns like JVR, Taj, Windsor, McVee, Kozzy, Rivers.

Maybe it's just the end of the road for our 2021 players like TMac, BBB, Petty (if his head is already in Adelaide), Salem.

We could use some young talent in the midfield. Max is also starting to look past it, and understandably so, he's carried this team since 2015.

It's gonna be a long season.

Im sorry, but max past it?  He has been in career best form and a lock for AA

    he’d want more than a 1yr deal

he is far past his best and will ride the GC gravy train

Yeh, maybe a 2 yr deal then.  He just looks like someone that is sick of getting flogged.  Just more value in coming to a side like us than an average side like GC

  12. Ok hear me out.

Dusty to me looks like he has lost a bit of passion at a club that is changing direction and destroyed by injury.

Could we get him across and a 1 year contract with a clause for a second or something.  Petracca showed us how valuable he is up forward on the weekend and this could allow him to spend more time fwd and Dusty a small amount of time in the midfield.  That's a scary 1-2 punch for any opposition, imagine dusty finally goes into the midfield and then you have to match up on Petracca when he comes forward for 5-10min.

Bit of out there thinking but surely he would be more valuable to us that a Gold Coast

  13. Horrible horrible first quarter.

But, to be an optimist after that, it is the best we have played in the wet for 4 years.  Maybe goody is learning!

Would have been a great win to get but not the end of the world, i do think we need Hunter in the rotation and once Bowie is back to full fitness there is a bit more class through the middle.

not too worried by this loss

  14. Huge win, very pleased.

Good to see Petty run into some form, i like this role too, up the ground more where his leading patterns don't matter as much but we can move the ball quickly if he clunks it around the wing which means we can change angles and get better fwd options.

It also allows him to help the defence out and play his natural game of attacking the footy in the air.  The inclusion of Turner has allowed this to happen.

Also, i wasn't sure about you Woey as a def, but could he be that lock down small defender we have been craving since Jetts retired?

  15. Hey Legends

Im sure there is already a thread about this.

Where are some good places to have a drink and a bit to eat before the game, coming in from Lilydale so keen to get in a little early.

Preferably closeish to the G so i dont gave too far to run after squeezing "one more" in.

if he isn’t the GWS starting team should we really be looking at this player?

We really should be looking to take someone that will immediately improve our top end. KPF / midfielder etc. Our defence is solid and isn’t really an issue area.

    So pass for mine.

Whitfield, Ash, Himmelburg, Idun and Perryman are the names getting a game ahead of him, all guns.  I agree about the other areas, but this kid is a walk up start in most teams in the comp.  Unfortunately no KPFs available worth spending $$ on.

    Yes.

Unrestricted FA as well I'm fairly certain. Can play wing as well and is an excellent user of the footy.

yes he is, and you would think we can offer him more $$ than GWS as their books would have to be pretty tight

    For those questioning my ongoing support of and the viability of an NT team, here are my solid contentions;

An Indigenous-led team will be underwitten by the fed and state governments, as a social mechanism.

It will still attract massive sponsorship $$$, in a CSR respect (sorry Santos and INPEX).

The locals will be more likely to switch allegiances or support the NT as a second team compared to Tas.

Most of Australia will take up the dynamic (cliche) NT as a second team, inc. dinky memberships.

Anyone who has ever watched footy up north will know it's not just a cliche. [censored] is exciting.

A local team will unearth local hidden talent, adding to the AFL pool. See Jurrah x 10.

The conditions are challenging, but it's not a big deal in winter. Just a bit slippery. Seriously.

A new 25,000 seat stadium in the city will fill out every second week the team play at home.

The same stadium can host other stuff and bring in people from SEAsia. Benefit NT.

    ..................................

I'm a Norwood supporter, but would back an NT team before a third SA or WA team. An NT team would outperform GWS and GC on almost every metric in their first season, on and off field. Canberra? pfft. Darwin leans AFL but is fairly split with NRL. Start a team up there and watch the fans and kids gravitate. I have first-hand anecdotal evidence: my kid brother is 6ft.7 and build like the proverbial. He should be an AFL ruck already but is still [censored] around playing rugby.

Also A Redlegs supporter, and don't want them in the AFL because i don't know how i would choose between them and  the Dees!

It's also just a media story and nothing else!
