Petracca on 360
That's not really what I took any of that as, at all. Seemed more like he was saying they took the good times last year for granted, not this season. He said they trained harder than ever this year - not something you'd do/say if you were taking the season for granted. Think you're trying to create something that isn't there.

Injured Players
100% mate! I agree with you about simply dropping players for the sake of blooding newbies, I was more on about gradually bringing through some newbies to relieve the physical pressure on the sore/injured players.

Harrison Petty - KPF in 2023
Love Disco! And reckon he's gonna be a player for us, but I don't see him as a stay at home defender just yet, more of an intercept type a bit like Lever, plus we would have 0 depth in that position if Tommo left and Petty went forward.

If Tomlinson is traded I reckon you can close this thread...

Injured Players
TBF though, there were a lot of posters on here, and fans in general, increasingly questioning this as the year went on. There definitely is a lot of Captain Hindsight as well, but the management piece was brought up often during the year.

Injured Players
That's a completely different conversation that I wasn't commenting on though...

Injured Players
Lol turn it up mate. Without having in-depth medical records, KPIs and GPS data no one can go through "week by week" and make those calls accurately. Ridiculous comment and you know it. If you balanced it out and brought it through gradually you just need the players coming in to play a role, they don't have to play out of the box. That's what depth is. The Watts comparison is absurd and we are past those days. 'Dropping' a player is not the same as managing a player. How do you think Chris Scott explained 'dropping' Joel Selwood?

Injured Players
No one said 11 players should have been dropped at once and replaced. The clear implication is we pushed the boundaries with inured players, perhaps off the luck we had in 2021, but the balance was too far to the other side this year and it cost us. Given the form of Casey, losing 1 game for the entire season, there was ample opportunity to blood some young players who had earned a shot while at the same time making sure those injured players were brought back to better condition. We could have done this bit by bit and planned out the year differently, especially given not all injured or sore players were at their 'worst' at the same time. It's not just on Goody, but also the fitness staff and the entire selection committee. I would say mostly the selection committee given what we know about Goodwin's firmness with the fitness team.

Farewell Jayden Hunt
When you only average 10 disposals a game it is.
-
Farewell Jayden Hunt
For comparison, Hunt averaged 10 disposals, Salem averaged 17.4. For comparison, Hunt averaged 7.5 effective disposals, Salem averaged 13.9.

Farewell Jayden Hunt
So that cancels out your argument as 'tidied up over the last two years' then. If you want to go back to 2019, when he played 21 games, he averaged 2.7 turnovers per game. Over the last 2 years he's also averaged 2.7 turnovers per game. Not exactly a tidy up.

Farewell Jayden Hunt
That's incorrect. I think you're getting confused with the average salary, which is now around 370k. Going by 2021 figures, there are more players in the 100k to 200k bracket than any other. Source: Back in the money: Who are the AFL's million-dollar men?

What's next for Adem Yze?
The only thing that add could to the sting of Yze going to the team I absolutely despite would be Hird coming to the Dees as an assistant...

Farewell Jayden Hunt
There's no way we'd be paying Melksham and Hibberd anywhere near 500k next year.

Farewell Jayden Hunt
You mean when he's mostly played as a deep defender? He still turns it over nearly a third of the time he has it. Across 2021 and 2022, he averaged nearly 3 times as many turnovers as he did in 2020. Not sure that counts as a tidy up.

Farewell Jayden Hunt
Maybe I've got some confirmation bias happening, but I have far more memories of him running himself into trouble, making poor decisions, kicking it badly and being caught trying to run too far, than I do of him using his pace to get out of trouble and delivering well.

As rpfc put it perfectly above: "I believe in the presumption of innocence, but I am over the days of the presumption of lying and duplicity."

I literally just explained how there's two sides, but ok...

Farewell Jayden Hunt
Can't help but feel the opposite tbh. I thought he played some of his best footy of the year as a lockdown defender. His disposal and decision making would cost us too much on turnovers on the wing.

Farewell Brodie Grundy
Maybe. I hate the kick to the pocket stuff, but I also recognise we weren't able to physically execute properly in the later part of the year so it's a bit harder to judge.

Hawks racism allegations (merged thread)
Typically one sided take from you. The other side of the coin is just as bad, if not worse, where victims have either not been heard, not been believed or not even spoken out due to those first two factors. That's what systemic racism does. It's not as black and white as you want to make it.

Farewell Brodie Grundy
Yes, prolonging Gawn's career and replacing Jackson are obvious factors, but I was responding to your comment about how Grundy fits in to how "our problems are ball movement going inside 50, inside 50 pressure and around the ground pressure." I agree they're problems, but looking at what we already do with the kicks to the pocket and trying to force a stoppage then to me the answer is obvious as to why the 2 rucks setup seems so important to Goody. It's been a part of his plan for a long time - We went for Preuss and people questioned why, then Jackson and people questioned why, now Grundy. I don't love it as a plan, I would much rather have more targeted inside 50s and better forwards, but this seems the way Goodwin (a premiership winning coach) wants to go.

I think it's part of their contracts...

It's a typically disgraceful 'article' from this scumbag. Including things like: "The ABC quotes three unidentified players at length, from the more than 20 indigenous players who were with Hawthorn when Alastair Clarkson was a premiership-winning coach, hailed as the best of modern times. We do not know how typical their complaints are, and we are relying on the reporting of an ABC that has a strong race agenda." He would be rubbing his hands together knowing he has weeks, maybe months, worth of outrage to farm for his continued employment.
