It's just an indication of the players worth on the market. Let's not take this to silly places now with comparisons based on awards and premierships, we all recognize there's more to it than that alone right? Anyways, we're not getting Naughton either way. I'm tapping out as promised.
-
Haha not bad mate.
-
Rising Star, Premiership player. Who would go first if they were being drafted this year? Rate Naughton very highly, but we're talking market worth here. I'll leave it at that, don't wanna back over it too many times. Understand if others have a differing opinion on Demonland.
-
It doesn't eventually, but for 20/22 year old key position players it does IMO (unless they're complete duds). Where would Jackson go if he was in the draft this year? How about Naughton? Guarantee you 99% of people (outside of those on Demonland who have now turned on him and are desperate for a key forward) would have Jackson going first out of the two.
-
Fixed it for you.

Given their ages it clearly has an impact, albeit not a main one, on their worth on the trade market. Again, would love Naughton, be unreal for us, but in terms of trade market worth Jackson would be higher IMO. As good as he is, I don't see any clubs being willing to offer 2 top 10 picks and a million a year for him.

Jackson - Pick 3, Rising Star winner, Premiership player, 20 years old. Naughton - Pick 9, 22 years old. I get it, I really want a key forward too and obviously people have 'turned' somewhat on Jackson on Demonland, but you guys are kidding yourselves if you think their worth on the market is the same.
-
Would need to take in the whole big picture of everything, but yeah absolutely.
-
Sure, with Jackson leaving I'd be happy if Naughton replaced him, but what I said was "worth", and IMO the market worth of Jackson is higher than Naughton. Of course, you would note that in the trade scenario we'd be trading Jackson AND a 2nd rounder for Naughton.
-
Pick 32 is our pick. Jackson and 32 for Naughton is clearly overs.
-
No there isn't.
-
Yep, fair point. I don't really see us having a chance at him barring the long shot of him being one of the players who (apparently) doesn't like the culture and sees a split in the group. Now, should we still be shopping at the end of 2024, Naughton not re-signed, and Ben Brown finishing up with us.....
-
Jackson worth>Naughton worth IMO (let alone chucking in a 2nd rounder as well)

One for the 'I'm offended by modern society and overreacting' crowd...
-
Ah yes, I'm sure Collingwood would sack one of their best players on a huge contract just simply off the basis of 1 social media post without investigating to the nth degree. Not an over the top take at all... Do they? I don't recall saying anyone anywhere saying Clarkson should be immediately sacked, let alone '99% of people'. Couple of classic red hot takes here mate.

I hear ya for sure, and it's an intriguing one if it's true we do want to go to the draft a bit more this year and next. I believe the Bowes figure is around 1.6mil over the next 2 years, so it's more than just that initial year we'd have to worry about. We've made some big re-signings the last couple of years, we'll have Grundy on the books (at least for 600K or so), May and Kozzy next year will both still get pretty decent deals IMO, Lever and Langdon the year after. Plus, there's always the chance we have to overpay JVR a little bit if he's tempted to head home (out of contract next year also). I reckon with Jackson gone, compo for Hunt (albeit not much), Tomlinson trade, possibly 1 or 2 others in the mix, then with some 'up-trading' - I could see us having 2x 1st rounders and 2x 2nd rounders this year which the club might be happy with as is.
-
It's being reported 850k next year is the asking price salary wise for Bowes. Tomlinson, Weid and ANB are all contracted, which makes it difficult, and none of Hunt, Bedford or Melksham off our books gives us huge relief salary wise I wouldn't have thought. Plus, it's not like you can ditch 3-4 players to accommodate 1, we'd still need to bring in other players. I'm under the impression we'll be looking to add more younger players this year and next given the contracts we've done and need to do so as tempting as that pick 7 is, I'm not sure that 850k for a player who would be iffy for our 22 is doable for us.

It does seem like Vic clubs so far, but he's from Cairns originally isn't he?
-
Would it make sense for Freo to go after Bowes and then use pick 7 as part of the Jackson trade?
