    From a journo or caller?

Didn't hear it myself, but pretty sure it came from a caller and Cal Twomey said something along the lines of 'have heard it, haven't been able to confirm it'.

Surely this means T-Mac & Brown are properly cooked?

I think they were both going in for surgery post season

Maybe, but we also have list depth to make up - Jackson, Daw and Mitch Brown all gone. Grundy in, but seemingly no replacements for the others yet.

*This is if the rumour has any weight of course.

I would definitely like to see it given a go. I do think the jury is still out on Tommo keeping that back 6 as strong as it has been but I would definitely like to try it.

No argument Petty>Tommo. Think it'll just come down to the balance between the loss in defence vs the gain in attack.

I would like to try Petty forward and Tommo back at some point but I'm not convinced that Tommo would offer half of what Petty does down back. I like what Tommo does and he can lock down and spoil well but a lot of people are judging him on the 6 good games he played last year and suggesting the swap would be like for like.

If we're going on amount of games, then Tomlinson is a better back than Petty is a forward.

For mine, Tommo isn't and wouldn't have to be as good as Petty in the backline, we have May, Lever, Salem, Bowey, Hibberd, Rivers etc all around him so he just has to play the role well enough and those guys can provide the top quality.

Aside from the reach he has, I think Petty going forward gives us better pressure and intensity inside 50 as well, and that will actually help the backline. All that adds up to absolutely worth trying in my book.

  5. Melbourne is being urged to accept Fremantle’s best offer of pick 13 and a future first-round pick for Luke Jackson and get on with the business of securing Brodie Grundy.

Fremantle has made clear its best offer of those two first-round picks will not improve as it attempts to hold its line and still secure the brilliant hybrid ruckman Jackson.

West Coast has publicly stated it is still in the race for Jackson as it moves towards splitting its No. 2 pick for the Power’s No. 8 selection and a future first-round pick but all roads point to Jackson arriving at Fremantle.

Fremantle’s view is that very few players are worth more than two first-round picks without a rival handing back a second or third-round selection.

You’d have to think that the club would have some thing in their contracts with coaches that outlines when they can’t accept a new job.

Anyone know how a coaches contract works? I’m all for giving people opportunities, but not 2 weeks out from a season.

Not sure on timings, but I know assistant coaches can break contract if their new job is a promotion.

Can you name a religion or denomination that is not asset rich?

By and large, riches built on the back of taking money from the masses and tax breaks. The catholic church, for example is the richest ngo in the world, yet I'd bet that the large majority of its followers are either poor or far from affluent

If I am correct, SWYL is referring (yes, in a generalised way) to the church being rich, as in the religious organisation. Not the individual participants in it

One upmanship of religious experience does not make you any more right in this matter. It only highlights arrogance

I've said my piece and I'm sure others are as keen as I am to get back on topic.

    Cheers.

That's almost become the stuff of urban myth...and before you get on your high horse 'Nev' I know there are figures to back you up.

...but as 'DeeSpencer' said, it was a small sample size and in a winning team.

We will never know the answer but I suspect Petty would have taken his position before the end of 2021 even if he wasn't injured. Petty is the better player.

I don't use that stat to try and claim he's some kind of superstar, more that he was doing his job and holding his spot before injury.

Can confirm that the knee was nowhere near 100% when he returned, and heavily impacted his form this season.

Don't be surprised if he comes back after a full preseason looking more like early 2021 Thommo.

If he managed to pull a ANB/TMac and come back and win his spot back it could be a very different look forward with Petty, JVR and a fully fit Gawn all potentially forward.

There was a reason why he didn't finish top 10 in the Casey BnF, and other defenders Buntine and Ellison did. Tomlinson quite often got caught in no mans land when the opposition won a contested possession and kicked long. And he's not a good one-on-one defender either. His stat line would look good because he took the kick-outs and played on, and also would get a lot of handball receives.

To be fair, he played 14 games for Casey, half of which were when he was clearly still getting his knee and fitness back.

Buntine played 16, Ellison 20, and neither are key defenders; which is usually a harder position to win votes in.

And just to add - he was number 1 in the AFL for defensive one on ones before he did his knee so I disagree he's not a good one on one defender.

No, he had a few good games but the limitations he has now are nothing to do with his knee.

    He had them pre knee.

His biggest limitation as 'rp' pointed out is Petty.

Even with the kneey Petty would have overtaken him not too much further into season 2021.

Was number 1 in the league for defensive one on ones before he did his knee.

Who don’t ask enough questions of the people above them, all because of the Stories in a Book

We've ventured a long way off the track - but I'll just say I'm absolutely with you that those who abuse their position of authority and power in religious organisations should be held accountable every time, which obviously does not happen. I would even say that given the nature of their positions and the additional trust, place in society and financial advantages they can have that punishments in such cases should be more harsh to reflect that.

I understand our experiences have been very different, but my experience has been quiet different to yours in terms of people in religious organisations holding leadership to account and being transparent about their operations. I've also personally known many at the 'top of the tree' in organisations like this who have been thoroughly good, ethical and selfless people.

I won't go on any more though so hopefully we can get back on topic.

The AFL twitter is a bit confusing.   Are they waiting for a club to be interested or 'need another club to participate' ie a third club to make a deal happen that we can get done, hence in 'the hands of the dees' comment...

Heard the whole interview live, was definitely more about having a club interested in taking him - likely with some kind of assurance he'll be considered first 22.

Corbett clearly not rated highly by Gold Coast.  A future fourth rounder?

That's not even a packet of chips, it's the little crumby bits at the bottom of the bag.

Sometimes those bits have the most flavour... but I'm not sure how to turn that into a footy analogy...
