The subjectivity and lack of transparency of the powers afforded to the MRO when upgrading impact on head high collisions (see point 1) 3. Has yet to transpire but how inconsistently this will be applied throughout the year. Ill bet 1 week will become the norm for the no-concussion head high impact (as opposed to a fine last year).

The correct term for conduct is intentional and the ball was in play (he could have tackled him) so it can only be ruled as careless. You can take that to the bank - anything else is contrary to the actual definition. The only aspect up for discussion is impact. Is it low or medium. If it’s graded low I believe it’s now a 1 week (last year was a fine) and a medium is 2-3. If Kozzy gets medium, then Buddy has to get high as the player was concussed and will then likely face a 4+ week suspension. But I have zero faith in Michael Christiansen as i don’t have the highest opinion on his integrity given his track record.

Not sure whether the guidelines talk about the contact in stages ie initial vs subsequent. Kozzy clearly hit Smith shoulder to shoulder initial impact, this is what he intended and can control. The subsequent phase of the contact was that his body rolled around and made contact with his head. When you break it down like that you could assess the incident in two stages - the initial stage you have assessed correctly. I think it’s the subsequent phase where the isssues arise and it can be graded as Careless, low impact, head contact. With the rule tweaks and the the AFLs need to make a statement I’d expect the impact to be upgraded to medium, which is then in the 2-3 weeks. Buddys assessment has to be a higher ruling in the impact as the player was concussed, so that’s my barometer on whether the MRO has ruled correctly.

I can’t say I remember the Eagles too well but I think Kerr and Embley were also a worthy 4 & 5. but back to your point, right now they are almost on par, but who knows in another 2-3 years with as many premierships it could be a different convo. If Gawn keeps this up for another 2 seasons, he’ll go down as the best ruckman to have ever played the game. Having Trac, Oliver and Viney as your rovers has the potential to be legendary, but it’s a bit early to call just yet.

Great performance. Grundy will get better with more games as he learns the tap locations. Just sour to lose Kozzy for a couple of weeks.
