I'm over him. We thought we had a first class midfielder but the truth is that he is miles behind the best in the AFL. Cripps, Dangerfield, O'Neil, Fyfe, Martin, Mitchell, Pendlebury, Merritt, Cotchin, Rowell, Boak, Cunnington, Kelly... it seems like most clubs have a better midfield than Oliver. Time to shake him up or move him on.

Cringe-worthy as it is, "Learnings" has been in common use for at least two decades in Asia.

I might have watched a different game. Kozzy was all buzz with no impact. Smith was ok. Rivers looked lost. Melksham looked disinterested and has forgotten how to chase. Hannan was ok considering how long it is since he has played at this level. And despite the love for Lockhart on this forum, he simply isn't ready.

I wouldn't apply the same sentiment if it was a Dee's supporter.
It was meant to be tongue in cheek.
That's also a problem. Do you think that tongue in cheek or casual prejudice is ok? Joking or otherwise, swearing about an English man because he isn't a Dees supporter, dismissing him because you think he's only been in the country for 5 minutes. Seriously? It's 2020 and if you haven't already noticed... NOT COOL, MCQUEEN.
Demonland, let's ban that sort of post.

Pommy [censored] who sounds like he’s been in the country all of 5 minutes breaking down a game analysis.
[censored] off mate.
Why does where he is from have anything to do with it? This sort of bias has to be called out.
Not cool, McQueen.

Hard to distinguish between the dark and light blues. And the videos show that several kicks went to opposition players. Maybe the two are connected. Or maybe we are still unable to find a teammate.

My completely dodgy, non-evidence based theory is that the youngest son should be the best because (1) he has older brothers to play with as he's growing up (whereas the oldest brother has to wait for the younger brothers to be old enough to play with him) and (2) because he's the youngest he needs to be better if he wants to be able to compete.
As I said, I have no evidence to back this up. It's just a thought bubble.
There sense in your thinking, LDV. Putting aside twins, from my memory there were brothers Abblett, McDonald, Wagner, Matera, Beams, Brown, Curnow, Hill, Jakovich, Daniher, Cornes, etc. It's obvious that T Mac has it over O Mac, but is there a pattern of whether the younger or older is generally better?
-
Achievements should include Gawn as captain in 2020.
-
Has anyone thought about whether there is a pattern to which is the better of siblings? E.g., older versus younger. I would be interested to hear the views of others more knowledgable than me.

Good as Jones has been for us, he's a long way short of the AFL's best midfielders. Has never been All-Australian.

A group of players who all had lockers next to each other and regarded themselves as the elite of the group. A boys club. selective of who they let in..I think that was the gist of the infamous Hollywood Blvd. G Lyon was the leader.
Thanks for explaining, L36. I hadn't heard of that group before.

SWYL... Hollywood Boulevard?

Forget McCartin. We should throw everything we can behind recruiting Jeremy Cameron.

If anyone had doubts about Johnson being one of our best since 1987, just watch this game.

19. CLAYTON OLIVER
This natural ball-hunter is going to be well inside the top-10 by career’s end. Oliver’s hands and vision in traffic are superb, even if he is still learning to balance his game. Was All-Australian in his third year and has two club champion trophies already. Averaged 28 disposals across his first 83 games and led the league in contested possessions last year.
Huh? If this about about players from 1987 to 2020, how is Oliver going to be "well inside the top-10 by career's end"? He has only the remaining games this year to climb 9 places? Unless we're talking about players who played in this era, but taking into account their output over their entire careers. In which case, Flower would be number 1 because he played in 1987, although his best years were prior to that.

The great Sean Wight was Scottish, not Irish.

Would be better for spectators.
I think a new AFL would have fewer teams in Melbourne. Maybe just 6. The strong clubs like Collingwood, Richmond, Hawthorn and Essendon might be the first four, then the other clubs would have to merge or start from scratch to form the last two. Much and all as I love the history of the Melbourne Football Club, in a clean sheet future, all it has going for it is its name.
