Doesn't Goodwin have a policy of not picking debutants as the sub?

at least with the new system there is a higher chance of the sub being used than the medical sub days  (Just dont think about the Semi Final)

I actually saw that one. Kozzie gave him a decent bump VERY late. I must admit I did think something similar, that's dumb.

Love Kozzie but just needs to reign it in occasionally. Especially when the ball is 50m away and the umpire is right next to you.

I had switched over to the Matildas by this stage so I didnt see the incident. Probably could have just saved time and gone back onto Kayo and found it tho!

Wasn't sure if was just Carlton tears or a legitimate grievance. Guess thats the risk when you play on the edge like he does.

  3. Very curious to see how Rivers/Salem go through the guts.

Rivers big bodied burst through the pack in the lead up to the Melksham goal in the Brisbane game was A+

    More of that please?

  4. Didn't want to derail the sad Brayshaw thread, but thought a different thread would be best to discuss squad ramifications - That thread is deserving of 100% Gus kudos/

Some longer term cap relief may help us snare a big fish but in the short term what can we do?

I'm not exactly 100% of the rules of what we can do and the dates for brining players in etc. Can someone in the know clarify.

And also given our list what should we be looking to add at this stage if we can, or best to wait until mid-season?

(Admin/Mods - Delete this part if appropriate (sorry in advance) - if a certain other player does get a lengthy ban, are we able to sign a top-up for 2024?)

I bet they're happy. We have helped Sydney become a far more improved side in exchange for a couple of mediocre draft picks (unless Sydney flop this year and the second round pick becomes interesting).

I get that we had no leg to stand on in terms of bargaining power, but at the same time, we were under absolutely no obligation to trade him.

Always risky improving another contender but also need to judge how we go with list management and salary spending (Given we've cleared space moving him on etc).

As bad as it must sound to alot of posters, this is Schache's chance to make an impact at the club.

I know some were critical of re-signing him, but given the question marks over some of the others long-term fitness, glad he's still on the books given what has occurred.

Definitely Last Chance Saloon him - but could be integral early in the season (if he can perform etc)

What did he say Demonstone paywall blocking viewing.😁

I'll just post his "issues" with the concept.

Here are a few blatant wrinkles in a liberal mid-year trading system that emulates overseas sports:

    1. Assuming there’s little restriction on who you can trade, clubs down the ladder, e.g. Carlton last year, have greater incentive to give up on the season and effectively tank. This flies in the face of the equalisation that has made the AFL more appealing.
    2. The teams higher on the ladder would enhance their position if they can a) acquire a key player that redresses immediate need and b) can get the vendor to pay a portion of that season’s contract.
    3. Integrity. The fixture will always be compromised, but is it right to cop, say, Richmond with Tom Lynch in round six – and then your top eight/four rival gets the Tigers without him in round 18? Not because he’s injured/suspended, but since he’s playing for Collingwood or Sydney by then?
    4. Players and their agents could ruthlessly exploit a mid-year trade threat: “I want to go to Geelong and get there now (Cats are thereabouts). Or sign me on a $6 million deal now.” Predatory clubs will get in the ear of players to push for an immediate trade.
    5. Geographic disadvantage. Victorian clubs can gain players from nine teams in the same state. Is a gun player, with kids, willing to uproot his life and move to Queensland or Adelaide?

  8. Perhaps some people are downgrading us as they are uncertain to what degree Oliver may play.

Injuries and bad kicking cost us in the finals. I've got that optimism from the players we've brought in (drafted/traded)

The Window is definitely open but i think the current state of the league is a house with many windows unfortunately.

Adelaide will continue to improve, GWS were rampant in the 2nd half of the season, Sydney have added well and should have a better season. Who knows what Carlton are capable of with a harder draw.

Do you chromecast to your tv or just use the Smart TV Kayo?

I was chromecasting from a Galaxy S22 all last year and whenever the game was live I would get lags at the worst times but never on replays. Recently I decided to test another streaming method: my laptop and connecting to the tv with an HDMI cable. Watched the whole College Football National Championship (4 hrs) without a single lag or spinning arrow.

It's a real pain but sometimes you just have to try another method, if one is available of course. These services struggle to get functionality right on all devices, should be a lot better.

This Chromecast or the Chromecast with Google TV? (one with the apps etc).

I'm with Foxtel, Ive got my 85 inch t.v hooked up via ethernet straight into the wall which if your modem is in another room, such as study produces a much better resolution and seamless viewing than Wi Fi. Ive paired the lot up with a Yamaha 5.2.2 system Blockbuster 7750 which literally brings the house down, plus the adjacent neighbours places as well🤣😇🤯😎

    What TV you rocking Picket?

Will be picking up a 65' OLED this year hopefully.

I think the Digital Membership from the club is a great saving on the Kayo subscription.

Digital Membership at the moment is $250 and includes KAYO Basic which is the 4K option. Imagine this will increase next year.

If you signed up to KAYO  for the footy season and then cancel at the end of September you'll be paying $245 (7x$35) if you want the 4K option/2 Stream option.

May as take advantage of the digital membership for those extra months - as you also get that 40% off voucher to use at the Demon Shop (valid for one transaction).

The drop in concurrent streams is a little cheeky those in streaming conglomerates though

Sparrow is a totally different player to JJ. He is much more dynamic, much more damaging with his ball use, and has a good burst of speed. JJ lacks those things, which made him surplus to our needs. Accumulating possessions in our midfield is not a valued skill when you have the likes of Clarry and Viney getting 30+ touches a week every week.

I wish JJ the absolute best at Sydney. He is a lovely, hard working kid and I totally get why he left.

Sparrow can definitely roost a ball off minimal steps. Love that about him.

Well, that's a matter for the rugby codes and soccer. I'm a footy and cricket man 😀

But given a boutique (approx 20K) rectangular stadium isn't needed for the Games, I'd say its lower on the priority queue.

In the end, footy and cricket will be the biggest beneficiaries of the Games due to the new Gabba.

Yeh understandable just curious about a Brisbanite POV and the mention of legacy benefit. Lots of politicians jumped on the Matildas with the Women's World Cup for photo opportunities and what not but now that train has left the station it's all very quiet. Brisbane could definitely do with one though

    Geez, what a pile on.

As a Brisbane resident, I say bring on the Games. 80% of the venues already exist with only 4-5 needing to be built so the overall infrastructure build is actually pretty light on.

I agree the Gabba rebuild is a lot of money, but its bloody needed. The stadium is falling apart and has lost cricket test matches due to that, and needs to be done up whether the Games are coming or not. A complete rebuild was a bit of a surprise but it will make it the best equipped stadium in the country and will provide transport links that are missing at the moment.

The boutique stadium for the Lions/Heat at RNA also makes sense as the RNA will be used for the Equestrian at the Games. It'll be used every year for the annual EKKA event as well as adds more capacity around the inner city for sports event, festivals and concerts. I do think the State Government should be chipping in more for it though given the displacement of the Lions/Heat from the Gabba.

But re: the comments about using Metricon, both the Lions and Heat themselves flat out refused that option. And Springfield isn't even in Brisbane and would need a tonne of works to upgrade it also.

All in all, both the Gabba rebuild and RNA stadium are needed and will provide legacy benefits well after the Games. The actual dollars are a lot I know, but so is everything these days. Definitely reckon the pros outweigh the cons.

My two cents anyway. Just thought some perspective needed perhaps.

Hi Demon Fred Spofforth - Out of interest - Brisbane still needs that boutique rectangular stadium - where would that sit on the priority queue?

Can anyone tell me what Adelaide gave GWS for pick 8?  Is it right that we were offered WCE future 1st for pick 7?

    Thanks for any help.

North Melbourne offered up two picks in the teens, Essendon was willing to part with its future first-rounder or picks 9 and 31, Hawthorn was willing to trade its future first and West Coast had its coveted 2024 first dangling. But Adelaide's offer of picks 10, 14 and a future second-rounder trumped the lot.
