I heard a discussion on sen a week or 2 ago, discussing reasons for poor carlton membership. Plenty of unimpressed supporters rang up with stories way worse than anything I have read on here.

My guess is that the Cats have already signed him at an asking price that we consider too high.
And where do they get room in salary cap?

The Richmond & Melbourne theme songs are our exit songs at the end of the night.

Mmm, a mixed marriage, hope you've got the potential offspring sorted

"Not all were happy with the state of play and it's believed it played a significant role in the resignation of two recently retired board members."
I am 100% satisfied from my information, that there is NO truth in this.

And development of young players was below parThat explains why we didn't have a game plan that worked.
We had 2 coaches controlled by 2 different Boards.

Another thing that was quite shocking to hear last night, was how bad the relationship with the scorpions has been over the last few years. PJ and Roos both said how happy they are with the new cases coach and that he is on the MFC payroll. The expectation now is that the alignment will actually add to the development of players rather than be counterproductive.
So many things were broken, it's no wonder we have been so bad.

Yes and to hear that the football department has not always been considered first priority,; that the top heavy management structure could have 1.7 mill wiped from it, and have no ill effect on the operation of the club. Infuriating.it actually makes my bloodboil. A lot of supporters invested a lot of money, hope, and tears during that period.
I'd love to slap those involved, i truly would.
What was going on?
And while I'm at it, to see the lucrative and effortless revenue stream from gaming, and to wonder at the equivalent on carlton's balance sheet...infuriating!

Roos did a brief q and a with HL and Frost and then Petracca and Bradshaw, 'on the couch' he dubbed.any word on the Roos interviews with the new recruits?
H said he was impressed with professionalism of club, expected it to be way behind Collingwood, Frost happy to be back home in melbourne, living with family and having a break from footy at the end of each day. Petracca commented on big gap between tac cup and afl, brayshaw concurred, reminding us of the footage of Christian near death experience on day one of preseason!
Lyndon dunne's little boy had his demon jumper on with 14 and 'Daddy' on the back. Too cute!
PJ talked about 10 year strategic plan and others have said, it includes 6 pillars he talked about 3.
1. Fans. In the attempt to engage new fans in growth corridors, heartland has been ignored. More focus on inner East and bayside suburbs
2. Branding, linking MFC with the city of Melbourne. Interesting that he said that the facts that we were the original club in the competition, we wrote the rules of the game, and that we bear the name melbourne, is not WHY we are great but why we NEED to be great. That we have a sort of responsibility to the city to be great. We can expect more efforts to strengthen links between the footy club and the city of Melbourne going forward.
3. Footy, others have covered this, aim to make finals 2016. Roos compared this preseason to the last, in that 38 players had completed benchmark 25 sessions, compared with only 25 last season.
These comments aren't meant to be a verbatim account, so excuse any shortcomings please

Worst discussion Cats have made in 20 years. Hopefully it's the start of there down fall, I'm sick of them being in the 8

Hope someone has told the club, they can't improve unless it receives feedback.
I heard collingwood give their 50 year members a new set of teeth.

First thing I noticedJust as an aside, did anyone see Gerrard Whateley's hair on the Offsiders this morning?
What has he done?
-
Very, very sad, been hoping and praying for a better outcome. Rest in peace Phil.
I'm sure Cricket Australia would have preferred not to have knocked the AFL off the front page on draft night.

I can tell you now this source is quoted from Brendan McCartney himself.
He is going to the Dees on Monday. He wrote his own contract. He is VERY happy and sounds like he may even be our next senior coach in waiting. His role won't be much next year.
He rejected Essendon senior gig because of the scandal.
He built a bonfire with all his doggies stuff, had a party and burnt it cos he was treated like crap there.
Probably the only scoop I'll ever have so passing it on to fellow Demonlanders
I'm hardly a source of information either, but I was told at about the same time as the above post, very reliably, that Mc Cartney will be announced on Monday as our dev coach. it was from his work with Goodwin at essendon, that made him decide to come to the dees- he really rates him. Hird wanted him, but was rejected them for obvious reasons.

"One more thing, Demonland deteriorates when its members start bickering"
Could not agree more GNF, a complete turnoff, we are all on the same side for God's sake
BTW thanks for the goss- fascinating

Yes, I agree.I 100% agree. We need to win some games. Not just to get some momentum going or to keep fans happy. But also to be a club tat has some hope of attracting free agents and the new free agent - any player coming out of contract (or just plain unhappy players for that matter). The window of opportunity to do the old style rebuild has slammed shut. The time is now.
another year of watching us hopelessly uncompetitive is unpalatable to everyone, players, coaches, us the supporters, and the afl in general. While we wait for the 18year olds to get 50 games into them, we lose supporters, members, sponsors, hope. We can't wait, we have to improve significantly now. This is the way to operate in this new landscape, not saying it's good, but it's the pragmatic decision that has to be made. Gusty move, well done dees

JT has failed his medical, re injured his foot, same thing. Poor Jack. He stays a dee, but back to rehab

Like so many here, my siblings and I grew up watching and marveling at Robbie Flower, our shining light in regular weekly losses. After reading the article this morning, I decided to take the afternoon off work and pay my respects to him at the G on Monday afternoon.
See you there.
The NAB Challenge
in Melbourne Demons
Posted
Just read a Matt murnane's articles on the age site after the last nab challenge, and feel utterly depressed about football.
"Frawley has slotted into hawthorn' s backline with ease and next to Brian lake have allowed Gibson freedom to run and create."
"Mitch Clarke today showed the cats supporters not only his goal kicking assets but his effect on Hawkins, setting him up to kick multiples."
And lastly, "Melbourne' defeat against a 3rd rate bombers team was only equal to the saints 106 point defeat by hawthorn."
Cheerful days
Thanks Matt for the reminder
