  1. Fritsch does break away but too often for a backman - and who the hell thinks he is built or adept at backline work? He is a natural, free-roaming forward in his space and field awareness, and a very good mark/goal shooter who has been extracted to fill gaps and thus, has lost some of his mojo for that area of football - and it is an area role he should be playing. We have seen what he could do with limited exposure to the big game and arena. Nah, put him down back, heh? He is one of the few to assist the Melk and Hannan in the free space excursion, nearer to goal perhaps and still very possibly lethal in that role. He is not a pack mark; he is a lone ranger type on his direct opponent and in the continuous function of moving to space, retaining space and looking upfield for opportunities for others to elicit ball penetration. Give the guy a break, Goodwin.
  2. I still believe that Frosty is not so guilty. He is caught between gap-filling, supporting to save desperate situations down back and assisting in the progress of clearances. Some he does well; for some of these roles, he is overwhelmed.
  3. Begs the question, though: 'How did we not maintain development (fitness, form, freedom from sustained injuries and surgeries) for so many players with attributes for football?' And then, 'Why is it that many of our recruits - though not all - fail to develop as conceived at the time of their recruitment?' I guess that if we knew the reasons for these issues and were capable of doing something tangible about such concerns, we'd be sitting pretty, right now. Do we have to admit that we do not have such skills in our FD and managerial set?
  4. This invokes instant thoughts of AVB and Joel Smith contributions in the very near future, hopefully. We are currently a lop-sided mixture of some sort that is really testing our recruiting and alleged depth. A return to form for Jeffy would also be amazing....
  5. When Lewis arrived, I just saw 'Coach' in my mind. He'd be terrific at that for the MFC.
  6. The wisdom is missing at the moment. Love the fundamental approach, coz it ain't no good being where the ball ain't. There are certain triggers in our game that our players struggle to identify so a fella like that (despite the pink) is a good investment.
  7. My oldest female relative (103 years) offers/volunteers for our fullback position, and at 5 foot 2 inches, can help out in the ruck if Gawny is feeling a little off colour. She will also bake him and that lovely young man with the red, curly hair some fortifying scones served with raspberry jam and cream - just to bring the colour back into their cheeks. If it's raining, she insists on the boot-studder going to work on her very smart, pink gumboots, however. (Possibly do better than our deep defensive line, at that!)
  8. Good players fight back in the pursuit of making something of themselves, contributing 'big-time' to their team as often as required. This is more than doing your best/putting in the effort. It is a transformation and at 21 years, in a fourth season, it is not too great an expectation - particularly if you were considered to carry a footballing heritage and the associated lineage potentials. A club can remain tolerant for only so long.
  9. Such negotiations then, would collapse - on performances, how far downwards can a Club go in the remuneration realm?
  10. He needs to be recuperated, therefore.
  11. Not so sure about 'take a grab' as it sounds and will most probably involve more 'bombing' to so do. Deep forward and flanking leads are the things we need and so far, only the Melk seems able to do this - on occasion. We do miss Hannan's ability to just 'bob up' into the action and rove around for something on which to score. This may well involve another 'just standing their ground', such a Preuss - or the big fella just leading straight out - no-one will get in his way if life itself is important to them. Vanders is a big loss, as well, around whom protection and pathways are made available for the forwards. Chaos footy has led to random efforts and this does not auger well for this year.
  12. We will be killed by their linkages and speed, with runners everywhere. The Swans back-up everyone with support and options - their brains think about where and what to play ... forward thinking in most instances. It's been refreshing itself over the past few games, so this match is most likely going to be the premiere, not another dress rehearsal. However, OMac may fire and save the day!
  13. There is that chance, as he can take on most of his size and a few of greater speed. He does have his polarity organised when it comes to that of the ball. There must be another couple of Seniors trials for him for experience, confidence and in the temporary elimination of those not actually performing, wouldn't you think?
  14. A few selector - recruiter regionals might assist; those who are capable of all-round player assessments matched against the needs of the current game.
  15. The Oooze has been bubbling along in a coach's rack nicely for a while now. Maybe, with Jordan Lewis for experience and footy smarts, a team of the two could assist the FD overall.
  16. It appears that across the board, our coaching staff do not seem to self-reflect, self-evaluate, speak their minds and actions, nor bring out the individual and team understandings of role, functions and execution because surely, BH Hawks just cannot be that good? We know, already, that Port and Essendon were not that good, either! Geelong - always ready for anything at this time of the year. Seems as though the MFC 'steam engine for the rest of the season' theory has run out of water!
  17. All of this is a coaching issue rather than a player issue, surely?
  18. This side has a few hidden secrets ... thus, reports of the game would be phantastique. Like the competition that we have with Box Hill Hawks, so it will be disclosing on quite a few Casey Dees that we are most probably all thinking about as nearing-form, in-form.
  19. Sam does take them at the apex of hands in his leap which is a strength but this does not mean that he is a pack-marking surety. However, if he could lead, almost randomly, it means that the in-comings directed at him do not need to always be in front/or chest height bullets; these in-comings could well be elevated to a reasonable extent and his vertical reach may well surprise instead of running under the bombed ball that is devoid of all intent. In packs, he is much better as a 'side-entry sprawler' with a few preparatory paces - an attribute that he used to good effect in the finals and in earlier games.
  20. Sad, meaningful and true.
  21. It is a dilemma that we are currently (injuries, form) facing and the potential for amelioration of the now chronic faults, errors and misjudgements are stronger with Frost than OMac, and Tom must find some form, as well. The relief from panic assistance rendered by HIbberd and Jetta down back to cover and support '...he who leaks on the field each week, then piddles off as if nothing was his responsibility...' will also be a refreshing addition to our clearance efficiency. Keilty and Petty are two that one could expect to make contributions with other assets, as well, to the Gawn overload. Just a few thoughts ....
  22. Yep, agree with this quite strongly. Frost is: 3rd banana stuff due to pace (and disposal is not as sick as people in defence of OMac in the past have suggested). Clearance machine in waiting for Lever and May, and Jetta and Salem. Add Keilty up back as another intercept to balance Lever (with opportunities for flanking entries by both of them and we are in town! Spot left for Petty as backline utility, as well. Releases some of the midfielders to stop penetrating so often into backmen's territory and as a result, enables them to penetrate closer to the forwards for less 'distance' bombs and more 'eyes-up', controlled short-passing whilst still playing chaos on the flanks and through the two wings. Makes good sense to me in comparison to what we have seen since.
  23. That is the best alternative, dazzle.
  24. The 'avoid impact' at all costs and the running out of the zone as soon as teammates arrive to take the blame/provide support by leaving their own zone and/or opponents to assist in a crisis and then appear to be responsible for the error - after the fact - for a stuff-up or failure have always been characteristic OMac on the field. Long sentence and description, but a long journey for teammates with no end in sight.
  25. Our contributions to the Club, outside of words, are enormous. Maybe our words are the best gift that we can present, after all. Everything else is ignored. The banner could state the facts as these are seen by the supporters, the general footballing public and the Club members. Somehow, we seem to be out of control, rabid and full of expectation to be heard now that Pert is in the chair. Maybe not?
