  1. Effort and everything aside, that was a 15 goal loss
  2. Haha. Can confirm that I'm not Marc McGowan however he can expect a letter from my solicitor
  3. Yeh exactly right. Granted we've got Jones, Hogan (traded in) and Watts to come back in, I think our original point still stands. We're hardly GWS and I think our coaching staff and co should be applauded
  4. Now that we've come good, I quite often here the old 'yeah so you should be with all your draft picks' yet let's look at the 22 we had on the weekend. B: Hibberd (pick 30*) McDonald (pick 53) Jetta (pick 51) HB: Lewis (pick 48*) Frost (pick 23*) Bugg (pick 43*) C: Melksham (pick 31*) Oliver (pick 4) Salem (pick 9) HF: Stretch (pick 42) Pedersen (pick 63*) Petracca (pick 2) F: Hannan (pick 46) McDonald (pick 53) Garrett (pick 61*) Followers: Viney (pick 26) Gawn (pick 34) Vince (pick 23*) Bench : Tyson (pick 2*) Harmes (rookie pick 2) Neale-Bullen (pick 40) Hunt (pick 57) Note * is what we gave up in trade and not their original pick number. I count that as only 4 first rounders that played on the weekend. Make no mistake we are being coached and developed properly to go with some excellent trading.
  5. There's either been a huge plunge for the dees or the bookies are expecting a big late withdrawal from West coast. Dees 2.60 into 2.20 Line 18.5 into 5.5
  6. I mentioned last week about 1 percenters like smothering and sticking tackles as things to work on. How good was our first quarter!
  7. Treloar and pendles reckon that was the quickest game they've played in a while
  8. I was surprised to read that we won the centre clearances so convincingly and came out even in clearances overall. Not a bad effort by the 'worst' midfield in the competition against the 'best' midfield. Upon watching the replay. Despite winning the tackle count, I thought we missed a lot of tackles today. There were plenty of tackles that got broken and a few where we had them corralled but just didn't put the tackle on and gave them an 'out'. At the very least we should be able to put a smother on. I think Maynard put on two smothers on Salem and melksham and its something we should be doing more. Not trying to be negative but if we can fine tune these things to our game, we'll make it easier for ourselves.
  9. Ps: that kick out from full back to Vince right on the 3qtr time siren nearly killed me
  10. Hibberd is a very good defender. Does better than half a contest and when he gets done at least he hits body and brings them to ground and slows up play. We were very fumbly and wasteful going inside 50 today. Would kill for someone like a pendlebury or sidebottom to deliver inside our 50
  11. Far king played 100 games with howe surely don't kick it in the air near him!
  12. Bugging kicks that goal and frost doesn't make that turn over!
  13. Could be showers on Monday night. Hogan and hibberd in makes us a 5 goal better side (structurally) so hopefully we can put that on the scoreboard. If it rains a little bit harder our midfield will beat there's up and no way we take Pedersen.
  14. Personally wouldn't mind seeing petracca go head to head with Martin. Trac is strong enough to go with him, especially in the air one on one and is good enough to hurt him going the other way too.
  15. On a side note. How good does our Anzac jumper look! The advantage of not having a back of jumper sponsor I suppose haha
  16. James harmes is a butcher of the highest order. Missed a set shot in the third and freo go on and kick the next 7 and he constantly under hits passes
  17. Which should happen given we're not in full contact yet
  18. I attended training today to get out of my un air-conditioned house. I pretty much just sat in the shade so I'm only going from what I saw from a far. Rehab group: Filipovic,King,TMac,Pedo,Wagner & Hannan Brayshaw came off the ground with troubles to his foot. Got assessed by the docs and they put him through a series of run throughs and exercises. Nev also came off early but wasn't attended to as did Frost who had a bit of work done on his lower back. There was some form of VIP group that got invited down to training, a lot of oldies including the great Ron Barassi. Robbo & Daisy Pearce were also there. Matt Egan addressed this group for a few minutes and as luck would have it I happen to be within earshot of most of this. He gave a brief description of what we were meant to be seeing in each drill (at that moment). There was one drill where there were 2 lots of defenders & attackers and the defenders were to block leads and the attackers were to block the defenders from blocking leads. Looked like a bit of merry-go-round until it was explained by Egan. Another drill was stoppage work from the mids and the other drill was leading & contesting marking up forward with an emphasis on repeat efforts & Hogan's name was dropped. Egan said whilst they are happy with Hogan's contested marking they'd like him to have repeat efforts and impact more contests. Egan was asked about the music at training. For those who haven't been to training, they have music blasting out from the punt rd end. The reason behind this is to overcome noise & in game day situations there are points where you cant hear the person that's yelling at you so you have to use signals. Egan also made mention of Goodwins coaching style at training where he likes short, sharp, intense drills. If you've been you'll notice that drills go for about 5 mins and then they huddle in the middle very quickly & break out again. He likes to change it up and not leave room for rest and see how the group deals with fatigue. One thing that was noticeable in todays session was the emphasis of using your opposite foot in the drills. Frost, Petracca were prob the worst. Suprisingly Weiderman pretty handy on the op. There was a 3/4 ground drill where the emphasis was on quick ball movement, playing on or 'rolling' as the players would call it. Oliver had good hands, Hibberd, Lewis & Watts field kicking were sublime & Spencer held his own against Gawn. I was a little disappointed when a wayward kick got kicked to Viney and as he lead to it he was quickly approaching the fence. I was the only one to yell out 'fence' and by then it was too late and he cannoned into it. Luckily he is built like a wombat and got straight back up but it could have been far worse.|| Max Gawn made note of the lack of talk and gave a spray from the sidelines. As I left they were doing some form of 3/4 ground run throughs around the boundary. Up & back twice. As they finished and naturally put their hands behind their heads, Gawn & Lewis ripped into em and said words to the affect 'don't show signs of fatigue. The comp wont know what's gonna hit em'. Wagner, TMac & Pedo did a lot of lap running. Leadership group locks at this stage look like: Jones,Gawn,Viney,Lewis Contrary to recent reports, Oliver was in the main session today looking like he has knocked off the puppy fat. Petracca looked like he was on limited minutes. Feel free to ask questions, however I normally drink at this time of the night
  19. Dad put me down at birth (November 1988) Junior membership at 16 Restricted membership at 18 Full intermediate (meaning under 25yrs of age) at 21 Full membership at 25 I work in hospitality and consequently work all weekend. I've been to no more than 5 melbourne games in the last 5 years. However not for a second do I think about throwing my membership in. As a football supporter, the membership pays for itself. If you go to an elimination, semi & a prelim thats half your membership there.
