I have cast 2019 off as a loss caused by surgery to some of our best players and a large number of injuries. 2020 I expect a lot better. However if we don't get back to 2018 form then teams like the blues will go past us.

The Blues are useless. They will continue as cellar dwellers for years yet. Unfortunately we look pretty useless at present too with so many losses. It’s so frustrating to watch the players get it towards and into the fifty and then not be able to capitalize and get some goals. We could have won so many games this year with more accurate kicks into the fifty, better leads from forwards and more accurate and opportunistic kicking for goal.

He SHOULD be selfish. He should watch de Goey's game and see how a talented player turns half chances into goals.

Tracc has the talent, he should not have to worry about game plans, defensive pressure, etc. Just go out, see ball, get ball, wreak havoc. That's what freaks do, but he's not allowed to celebrate his freakdom. He's being turned into a second rate robot.

    Good point!

Viney is a limited footballer and in no way in the same class as Dahlhouse, who has the tricks and smarts to play forward.

Viney is an inside mid and thats it.

I wonder if there’s resentment against him amongst the players? He was made captain very early and partly because his father was a club champion. He made silly, holier than thou statements about May who had a couple of beers with mates. He’s hard at it but his decision-making is not great and his kicking is not straight.

    Don't agree...

I think we stick with Weid, was ok considering the quality of ball coming forward and lack of assistance with Petracca being the only other forward who looked like they could play.

...but please drop Tommy back to Casey. He's giving us nothing.

    Pruess can take his place.

    How about Preuss?

Pies won 7 on the trot before their loss to freo.

We have been inconsistent and horrible in front of goal. But overall our intensity has improved.

We are not without a chance but it will be tough.

But you can never tell what will happen on these big days. The rain is meant to clear and the sun come out which is great.

Playing Cox is a mistake in my opinion. He is not a natural footballer and needed to get some touch after 6 weeks out.

Cox will kick at least three. We should have played Preuss. None of our players can match up on this height except Maxy and he has other jobs to do.

You can always come up with some negativity about the club and players. What have you achieved in a sporting sense to make such comments?

That’s irrelevant. This is a blog for Demons supporters to make comments based on their opinions. Nobody on here reveals their true name or education/training or occupation. Whether or not someone has played or achieved in footy, another sport or been King of England doesn’t come into the equation of whether their comments carry weight. The only thing that does count is whether the commentary is logical and fits with most supporters’ views. There is no point attacking unrevealed credentials of anonymous people.

  7. Management is often about finding a scapegoat below yourself in the hierarchy and dumping all the blame on them as you see them out the door and preserve your own job.

Some of the higher ups should go too.

Very surprised he is willing to finish in the VFL.  I take my hat off there, as long as there aint the financial carrot in his contract to continue playing.  I can see him giving away a few more 50s and a few suspensions so he won't play that many if I had to guess/bet.

My head-shaking has been more at the club than him.  Those that think he got slower suddenly, or started dropping his to his knees in the past 8 months, haven't really looked at him between 2014 and 2016 at the hawks where he had an OK 10 games out of 65?  I watched him closely at Hawthorn, and couldn't believe then, that he was earning a cemented senior gig.  Like Cornes said, no other club was going to offer him anywhere near what we did.  Smell like paying over the odds to me.  If you have a 1994 Mercedes C 280 with a faulty wiring harness, leaking oil and 400,000 km on the clock, you pay market value for that at the most.

In the past 30 years, only the desperate or those wanting big bux have ever seen MFC as a destination club.  When Lewis, via Todd Viney, saw Melbourne as a destination club, we were seduced and didn't think he was really coming due to desperation or dollars.  The big error on our part was that we were a one-paced side to begin with.  If you want to insert leadership on field, you can't do it, and make a slow team slower.  Our only option at that time was Brent Harvey...that was all.

On field, did he make the difference between non-finals or finals; finals or GF?  No.  He wasn't an asset to us on field at all.

On leadership.  A true leader can keep his nerve on the field.  A true leader is completely selfless on field.  A true leader facilitates leadership in those around him, and makes the joint better on departing.

IMO, Lewis aint no true leader.

That’s a bit sad. Why bother posting this? The guy’s retiring after a great career in football. That’s all really.

I didn't watch the second half so no blame on Oscar for the loss from me.

However one thing he continues to do, which he did last year and still does this year, is spoil to the corridor. If you're going to spoil you should be spoiling to the boundary line or over the goal line. O Mac still hasn't learnt this and constantly send the ball back into the run of play or worse still to the top of the goal square.

He’s not the only MFC player who does this. Punching the ball in the forward fifty instead of marking it has led to multiple goals this year when it goes in front of the oppo players and our crumbers are fast asleep, not anticipating where the ball will go and not grabbing it or the oppo player who picks it up. Heaven help us if de Goey is not tagged this week.

Keen to hear who should have played for Oscar last night? Petty? Keilty?

May and Lever might be back this week but until they arrive Oscar is it.... sadly.

May should have. Absolutely ridiculous making him play VFL. He’s a high quality player. He played very well in VFL and could well have been the difference if he played against Adelaide instead of Oscar, leading to a win.

The season was over as soon as we ran through that 'mean tweets' banner.  One of the most embarrassing moments in the history of the club.

We may as well have had a banner saying 'This club is still soft as butter and our  players are weak as it gets'.

They didn’t run through it. They walked up to it and gently squeezed through.

We have 3/4 of our players out injured or playing injured and replaced by NQR VFL players. What did you expect from this game?

Reading that I thought you had to be a troll, I've actually had a quick look through your postings and it really doesn't look like it. I've done a knee, and you are so off the mark it's laughable so instead of scalding you how about I break things down for you.

Recovery isn't just the injury itself, particularly with structural injuries like knees. A closer mark would be 6-9 months is what it takes for the knee to "heal", but that doesn't take into account the conditioning your body and in particular that leg loses. The rehab isn't a constant upward trend either, you have setbacks (and I'm 99% sure Jake had one around December that required surgery) and when you have setbacks it really slows you down. Then when you do get the all clear to start loading again you can't go all guns blazing because your muscles aren't used to it, you also have to be careful that you're not overloading one leg over the other, it's not uncommon for people to do their other knee following a return. Then you have to get confidence in your body that it isn't going to break down again, whether that's the knees or the muscles surrounding it. Then he has to return to the game, get back his natural skills, and get a feel for the pace of the game. You try doing something and then returning a year later and see if you are able to jump straight in with no problems. All that is putting aside the psychological side that plays on your mind of "will it all be ok?"

Bottom line is I'm just stoked for him that he got through the game unscathed and he will go next week with more confidence.

I’m way more aware of all of this than you could or will ever know. But what you say is largely nonsense. The ligaments and capsule of the knee are fully healed at three months. Then there’s some rehabilitation to strengthen the surrounding musculature and re-educate the nervous system including the brain to run properly with the new knee. It’s pretty simple.

Maxy tires as the game goes on which is understandable.

Having Preuss in the side will help a lot with this so to will his aggression.

He got tired after a player used his boots on Max’s head to take a mark. Not that different from the Toby Greene marking style.

That is about the level of this comment Stormy.

Give Jake your support you have obviously forgotten his ability and team ethos in defence and will be back bigger and better than ever ASAP.

He’s had a whole year off to prepare for a return in a much lower level game. He did next to nothing in that game. Very disappointing.

I seem to remember when we made our breakout first finals appearance in 1987 after 23 years in the wilderness, we just scraped into the final 5 in spite of winning something like 8 of our last ten games (l stand corrected as to the precise details). Could this be a repeat?

With something like 17 of our senior list on the sidelines ATM, the performance in Perth was really quite remarkable, especially considering we beat them inside 50s, and it was only because of our deplorable kicking that we lost.

As we get our list back over the remainder of the season, we will get stronger. The next two games are more than winnable, then Collingwood awaits on Queen’s Birthday. By that stage we may well have half a dozen of our 1st 18 back, and then ripe for a crack after the bye.

All is not lost. I must say l was heartened by Harmes comments after the game: something like “winning is not our only focus now, we want to play our game style, winning will come”. If this means they relax a little more and play their natural style, who knows what might happen?

Having a ripe crack can happen now. Not after the bye.
