You need to watch it again, unless he was under pressure from the rain

The pressure comes from the facts that 1. the ball was kicked across the face of goal in the forward line of the opposition, 2. It was in wet, slippery conditions when it is hard to take a mark, 3. It was unexpected by O Mac because there were better options such as a long kick out of their fifty, 4. There were opposition players within a reasonably close vicinity. Kicks across the face of goal, close in to goal are highly risky in the best conditions and often result in turnovers and opposition goals. It was a pivotal moment in the game. At that stage goals had been extremely hard to come by and we were in with a chance. To give one away through dumb play was deflating to the whole team who had been trying so hard in terrible conditions.

I was at the game yesterday and it was one from a perspective of bring there and looking at the boys off the ball it was evident they were tired.  In light of that we were 1-2 goals on being back in it by 3/4 time and thought the boys were really starting to break the lines a bit more.   But still looked tired.   Not hanging them on that performance although maybe Spencer and Grimes in yesterday giving Billy 'the kid' and Maxy a rest could've been a well worth strategy , not too win but for the sake of longevity of this season.  Just to now stay in touch so the guys have a cause to finish off the season well is all I want from this yr.  amazing what a bye could do and back on our home turf in a couple of weeks against Adelaide I'm already looking forward to that one.   Our bodies for that style of footy yesterday as mentioned by other posters really couldn't had the rough and tumble all day either.   There getting there but yes would like to see Roos coach from bench 2nd half and have Goodys in the main chair. It's time

Adelaide will thrash us on current form.

This is spot on. Hogan gives up on the ball as soon as the kick isn't to his liking.  There was one point today when the kick missed him and went over the top to his opponent who dropped the 1mark, but Hogan had already started soiling and not run to be on the mark to impact the contest and the Swans player had time to fumble without pressure. That is laziness

    Soiling? Did he poop himself?

We learnt nothing from the Hawks game a few weeks back, still over using the handball in wet conditions.

Forwards were poor again, need to play in front and create a contest in the air!

Not just that. Did you notice whenever the Swans were heading for goal, rebounding from our 50 or half back, there were Swans forwards down in their fifty ready to receive the ball. We didn't do the same and there was nobody to kick to in our empty forwardline several times.

If you think it's "irrelevant" you have the democratic right to ignore this thread, any articles on the subject and our section on Women's Football when we get it up and running.

Also, if you really thought it was "irrelevant" then you wouldn't have wasted your time posting or the time that others spent reading it.

I will ignore it all. No interest whatsoever.

  6. Full Definition of chauvinism

    1. 1:  excessive or blind patriotism — compare jingoism

    2. 2:  undue partiality or attachment to a group or place to which one belongs or has belonged

    3. 3:  an attitude of superiority toward members of the opposite sex; also  :  behavior expressive of such an attitude

Number 2 could apply to all demonlanders with respect to MFC!

A fantastic day for football and womens' football in particular. This is no doubt one of the biggest positive steps for aussie rules in many years. It will be embraced by 10's of thousands of fans and it's about bloody time women are given a forum to showcase their talents and passion for the game. Make no mistake, this is a monumental day for the game.

    Go DEEEEEES  !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Monumentally irrelevant.

    Meant to mention this earlier.

How good was it to go a match by old protagonists at the G on QB Monday and have both teams in their correct jumpers?

On top of that ( where I was anyway )there were no fights, no Swearing in front of kids.

You sit with the opposition  supporters with   good nature banter and just to top it off not a face mask or flare in sight.

Yes. Those "away" jumpers should be disposed of forthwith. They are completely unnecessary. The umpires can easily see who is on which team. As for the TV and radio commentators- who cares? They mostly talk nonsense anyway.

    Pure Maths

when did this club last win 4-5 in a row?

the good clubs set those standards and just do it.

At The MFC the Ghosts of the past are used as an excuse. Why should any player still be effected by the 2011-14 years?

they are being well bloody paid.

Just put your head down and work your ass off, at training & on matchday....

They aren't that well paid. They can only play for a few years. Also it's only the really top players who earn quite high salaries compared with most Australians- E.g. Lance Franklin. Many then suffer long term arthritis and other conditions from their time in the AFL. Most end up doing menial jobs after AFL with poor incomes for the rest of their lives. Don't compare footballers' salaries with your salary, compare them with top English football players' earnings: they earn millions.

I was expecting / hoping for ten wins at the start of the season and that hasn't changed.

I don't think even 12 wins will get you 8th spot this year.

8th spot is irrelevant anyway. The last four spots in the top 8 are just for revenue generation for the AFL and Fox. They give false hope to fans in two ways:1) that the team can win the premiership, and 2) that the team gets good 'finals experience' and will come back the next year and have a tilt at the premiership. Both are B$. For example look at Richmond. Also look at Freo - yes they were in the top four but what good has 'finals experience' done for them this year?

    Hard to say.

Losses to Essendon, St Kilda, and Port Adelaide have certainly put us in a position where us supporters still have no faith on which Melbourne will turn up on match day.

Collingwood, Carlton, St Kilda again, Freo, and Gold Coast are the only winnable games I see for the remainder of the year, best case scenario 10 wins for the season.

now, 10 wins is 3 games better than last year but I would still say we are a year behind schedule where the club wants to be...by this year PJ wanted 50,000 members and to be looking at finals.

We are at 38,600 and are looking to come in around 10/11th at best.

I would love to see a couple upsets of course but the team hasn't really given us fans any faith or beleif that that might be the case.

Right now I feel the club isn't out of the woods as to if this rebuild or whatever you want to call it these days is a success, granted we have a very young and inexperienced side and by the looks of your young talent, it is only a matter of time, anything could happen so I still wait here with bated breath as to what happens to the club in terms of on field success over the next 18 months.

On current form we won't beat Carlton. On current form and 10 years history against St Kilda and our history at Docklands I seriously doubt that we will beat St Kilda, especially if Riewoldt plays and we continue to not play a tall man on him.

Apart from the mark on 50 in the last where we were level or just behind and he kicked to the pocket to Dawes and someone else. Went down the other end for a score i think. Don't know who i was angrier with, Tracc or Dawes and whoever else lead there. Dumb footy all round. We were in it up to our necks at that point.

The other part that annoyed me was the celebration after Jones's running goal in the 3rd. You would think we had won or something. Jonesy son i would've thought you'd learned by now. Settle em quickly tell em to head back to their places, head down "we've got a job to do fellas....no celebrating yet!". Hawks pretty much took over from there. Not saying this was solely responsible but will we ever learn?

Dawes lead to the the pocket could well have been to draw the opposition backs out there and allow trengove to mark unopposed directly in front.

one of its' few functioning defenders, in an inexplicably feeble defence, to injury. Better??

Almost. There's no apostrophe in the possessive form of its. Neither before nor after the 's'. It's means it is (abbreviated form). Its' does not exist in English.
