Preuss is a dud. The big lumox couldn’t even stick a tackle - one of their smalls broke free of him far too easily. He can’t play with Max pure and simple.

You have a short memory. Max Gawn was just as bad in his early AFL games.

Agree with this. Petty strikes me as a similar player to Jack Darling, agile tall forward with a bit of agro about him. TMac and Weid are definitely our key forwarda with Pruess able to rotate in as a key forward/ruck.

Looks more like Cale Morton or Lucas Cook to me. VFL level.

    We were 4th last year.

But ok mate, all of a sudden recruiting has ruined us.

We were 5th at the end of the home and away season. Finals are a separate competition which we won’t be in this year. At least compare apples with apples.

The first couple of minutes of today's game were close to a mirror of the prelim from last year. We had errant handballs and a total lack of system.

The only difference in the games is that Collingwood failed to take full advantage & convert early on.

No matter what Goody says & Jones says as he did tonight, they haven't adjusted the plan one little bit & that's a big concern.

If they think they have tell 'em they're dreaming.

Treloar basically said it post game, we knew what Melbourne would bring & we waited, adjusted, took advantage & ran them on the outside.

Yeah we can win contested ball but because we have so many drawn into the contest to win it we have no one to give it to and we cough the ball up...and off they go.

Within days of Reece Shaw taking over the North job there were obvious changes to the way they played so we can't use the it takes time excuse...but we do.

If the coaches are coaching a different plan to what we're playing then we have an even bigger problem than I thought...the players are not listening, the coaches are not communicating.

Looking at how we are playing the only thing I can deduce at this point in time is that Goody is not a good coach. From what I am seeing he is stubbornly sticking to a plan that just doesn't work, sticking with players/positions that aren't working, clutching at straws bringing in underdone players.

The measure of him going forward will be his ability to reset & adjust. If he can do this rather than stubbornly stick to his current plan then I reckon he will turn the corner. I hope he has the currency (faith from the playing group) to pull it off, after a while he will be out of coin, it will be too late.

Buckley & Hardwick pulled it off but it's not a given, if he's good listener, has the right council & we pull the right levers with new appointments then all's not lost. I truly hope this is the case as I couldn't take another coaching change.

As we look at things now...is Goody a good coach? No.

Very few are in their early years, they need to grow into the role.

Will he be a good coach? I sure hope so.

A few observations from my first post after the Port game.

Max has really stood up, he's not allowing himself to be pushed around. He's back at the top of his game and a credit to himself. Just wish he would stop pushing the ball to the left in his set shots.

Tommy Mac is done..for his own good & ours he needs time at Casey. Please...nothing has changed.

Hibberd is still struggling, admittedly coming off the collar bone is not helping (rushed back/underdone) but he has been inconsistent and we're not using him well.

    Fritsch is treading water.

I reckon Trac is on track, just not being used to his full potential. See forward set up...

Weid needs to stay, he's our best bet forward but with Preuss as his foil & to relieve him of 2nd ruck duties,

...and who is the coach responsible for our forward structure???? the buck has to stop with Goody but why do we insist on this narrow funnel set up at centre bounces. It gives us nowhere to go but wide to no mans land.

We get the ball in the middle & look up to 6 forwards & 6 backs all in the the same lane way & kick it there. Is it a wonder the ball rebounds so quickly.

There's still a lack of passion & it showed out today.

May & Lever will be gold but we paid overs for them. The list needs a lot of work I just hope we can conjure the currency to get us what we need.

This year is the drop off year, the measure of the club, coach, FD & players is going to be how/if we bounce back.

Expect a full review & some level of power to be taken out of Goody's hands. Everyone got ahead of themselves & changes will be made.

I hope we get the right person to do the review, a real smart football operator who knows clubland & success backwards.

What's Andrew Ireland doing in retirement, an old Roy boy maybe could do with a couple of months pocket money????

    Worth a call Perty...

I want to change things. If you want to just keep going as we are then that's your call mate, but we currently sit 17th with a genuine chance of finishing last. Time to actually shake things up, change the dynamic, reaffirm selection culture and get back our balls.

More likely to be castrated in this game!

Keeping Stretch also raises the issue of the 4 injured amigos... AVB, 2 Smiths and Stretch... can we afford as a list to have four NQR players who are injury prone. Add in KK and that's 5. Put's immediate strain on the list.

    Delist them all.

Not totally sold on this theory.. Most people were saying the exact same thing about Carlton & Saints earlier this year.

Look what a new coach has done to the ‘plodders’. I believe we’re just not being coached to our strengths & players are struggling to execute Goodwin’s game plan.

    There's a game plan?

Trouble is the much safer bet with a top-end pick is the best midfielder type.  And at this stage we're staring pick #2 in the face.

KPF selections throughout the history of the draft has a history of turning up busts.  Even so,  the big blokes take longer to develop and blossom anyway and our needs are immediate.

Maybe with a later pick but our best option might be to trade for a KPF.  We could use next years first round draft pick especially if the club believes we can bounce back into finals contention next year.

Much like we've done with May & Lever down back.  Even Frost came to us through a trade.

And there's always free agency but I'm not sure who might be available anyway.  That's what our recruiting people are there for but  I see our needs up forward as being critical to our success.

The Tigers went hard after Lynch even though they looked to be in a position of strength.  No thoughts of sitting back and now they've rebooted and could win it all again.

We’ve been able to get it from the midfield to inside the fifty all year very well. We can’t convert that into goals. We need forwards not more midfielders.

Interesting that BT said from the start that you have to aim at left post at our end and we have missed right 3 times. Nothing wrong with Lewis’s action they just can’t read the breeze. Petty misses as well. Unprofessional by our forward coaches it looks to me.

I’m at the ground. There is no breeze.

Even if they could come back this year, why would you bother? All are contracted for next year, so let them have an extra month to get themselves right for a big pre season.

I would have put Jetta in that batch as well, although it seems like we are going to try and run him into the ground before the end of the year. The reaction if something serious happens to Jetta or Lever over the next six weeks will be fun to watch.

    Exactly

  11. Why not just admit that none of these players will play again this year instead of the listing on the website as follows:

    Jake Melksham | Foot – 3-4 weeks

    Tom Sparrow | Knee – 3-4 weeks

Tom McDonald | Knee – TBC

Kade Kolodjashnij | Head – TBC

Aaron vandenBerg | Foot – TBC

Jordan should be a good player for us and did nice things today. However I would rather him continue to enjoy his footy, keep learning and develop his body for the rest of the season. Maybe one run towards the end but not against the Eagles. Bedford likewise.

There is no player called Jordan. Maybe you mean Jordon?

I can’t believe a few people here are considering dropping Pruess ?‍♂️

Was one of our best against Carlton & while didn’t have a great game today showed some signs that he could do well for us forward.

The seasons done for us, give him a solid 3 weeks as a Forward/Ruck. If it doesn’t work out then we should drop him but to drop him after his first game as the main tall forward is just ridiculous. McDonald was playing rubbish for the first half of the season but he wasn’t dropped so why should Pruess ?

We don’t have a player called Pruess. There is a tall player called Preuss. Do you mean him?

We beat GWS, Geelong, Hawthorn and West Coast who made the 8 last year.

Operations, Injuries and many players not having good pre seasons make a huge difference.

Brisbane had two players out of their total list unavailable for selection on the weekend. Remove five players from their team and see how much it impacts them.

Yes, we’ve had a really bad season, players injured, no confidence, and even recruits injured.

Most likely we end up bottom 4, we get a good draft pick, probably capable of playing firsts next year, get any operations out of the way early, pre season for team starts early, we get a good draw next year. Pick up someone with speed and someone who can crumb in the forward line, and 2020 we’re back in business.

2014-18 we improved each year, this ones a downer, but we can be in a position to go for top 4 in 2020.

We lost to Geelong twice during the home and away season. We lost to West Coast in the Preliminary final. I can’t recall whether Hawthorn or GWS were in the eight when we played them in the home and away season. But mostly we only beat teams below us or not in the eight.

We will be outnumbered as usual in the supporter stakes too. All those indigenous players that the eagles have will make them the preferred team. Other than money, we have gained nothing from this whole NT escapade.

Not so! Last year there were many indigenous people at the ground supporting MFC!
