  1. Red is a light colour compared to our blue dominated jumper. And red clashes less with our supposed clash opposition than white does.

This whole thing is a farce.

The members were upset about not being consulted about the silver disgrace last year, and now the same thing is happening again. People submitted designs and I guarentee 90% were based in red, not in white.

The AFL says it wants light vs dark, not black vs white.

Are we gutless or do we stand for something? The Demon is back, so should the red and blue be.

I completely agree. We should have at least tried.

  2. Really don't like Frawley in for Martin, but the rest of the changes are good and will better the team. Glad that Maric got back in.

Even if Bate is fit I thought dropping him was the right move.

  3. If Geelong don't beat West Coast by more than 100 points they will have done badly.

I have a feeling some of the Richmond players will be thinking: 'finals are over, who cares if we win, we're gonna finish 9th', and they might take their mind of the game a bit. Melbourne will be 100% committed to getting a win (which doesn't help us, but anyway). So I think there is a small but significant chance of a Melbourne win.

  4. I don't think we need someone to come in and make an immediate impact - we won't be in contention for a while yet. Dermie on Watts:

"if Melbourne wants an excellent longterm prospect that will assist its structure from 2010 and beyond, then this boy is a target."

    ^ Sounds good to me.

Yeah I agree Rogue. Even though we're 99.9% certain to get pick 1, Dermie was still making it more of a hypothetical situation, rather than saying: 'Melbourne should take Watts'.

  5. After hearing that as a player you must think to yourself- If they dont really want me maybe i should look to get traded home?

On the other hand, as a club hearing that one of your players doesn't want to go home because he wants to stay at the club, maybe a new contract should be offered.

  6. I read this in the paper where he rates the 3 players and gives his 'verdict'. Basically he says Watts has what it takes but is a long way off being capable of AFL football, whereas Rich is ready to go next year in Round 1 (because Rich plays senior footy already, Watts doesn't). He says Naitanui has enough to work with, and is kind of in between the other two. Overall I think he leans towards Rich because he's ready to play AFL now. If we were to take Watts, we wouldn't get anything out of him until 2010 at the earliest (says Dermie). I still think Watts, but Dermie's suggestion that Neitz, Schwarz and Lyon all evaluate Watts is a good one, and if they have queries the club should listen to them.

  7. I would say they dropped Jamar to enable Martin to stay in the side AND play Dutchy. This way Martin and White can ruck, and Holland can replace Newton and dazzle us with his incredible guns and divine kicking ability :D

That's what I think. However I did hear the other day that Carroll played in the ruck for Sandy, and he's named at FB (which I guess means he definitely is in), so maybe he might ruck a bit.

  8. Why doesn't Adelaide's clash jumper need white in it?

None of the following club's clash/away/alternative strips contain white:

Adelaide - uses red as the predominant colour

Essendon - more red than usual

Port Adelaide - I cheat here because they use silver instead

Richmond - more yellow than usual

West Coast - lighter blue than the home strip

Each of these clubs' regular jumper is predominantly a dark colour (dark blue or black), like Melbourne, which suggests to me that they would clash with similar teams. 2 weeks ago Adelaide played Essendon and wore their clash strip, and there was no clash. So one would assume that a predominantly red jumper for us wouldn't clash either. I don't know why we were told to have white in our jumper. Maybe this isn't the AFL, but it's the club that wants the white.

  9. IMO Holland will be the supporting ruckman option guys. Not to say he won't go foward and kick some sausage rolls...

That seems probable. Looking at the team, you'd think that White will ruck, with Holland forward, then when White needs a break maybe he'll go to the bench and Holland will ruck.

  10. Honestly do you think a player crippled with OP for the past two years has any legitimate trade value? Or put it another way would you be happy if MFC chased with a valuable pick a player who had not played any football due to OP for the past two years? I certainly would not.

Me neither. If we were to let him go, we wouldn't get what we know he's worth, so basically we'd make a loss.

    Tell him he's dreaming. B)

If we at demonland didn't dream, there wouldn't be a demonland.

  11. I don't like the way we have been forced to accept that white (or any third colour) must be included on our clash strip. There is no white on Adelaide's nor Essendon's away strips. Both of those use red as the predominant colour to avoid the clash that normally exists with the blue/black of the normal jumpers. I can't understand why design B with a red background can't work for us, yet the same principle works fine for the Crows and Bombers.

Anyhoo, I voted B. There were 406 votes, 51% of which were for B. I don't like the way the Demon logo has been changed (with the open eyes and more 'aggressive' look).

  12. But credit to North and Port Adelaide.

Port for example, 12 whole months ago (a near lifetime) played in their last grand final. Having to struggle and sruvive in a two team town, they've STILL managed to almost have as many people come to games as Powerhouse teams like the MFC who have 12 Premierships compared to their one.

    However are they to survive?

Of course they draw big crowds. They got 25,000 to a FINAL, who's ever heard of that? And they had to compete with the first ever round of A League.

Two crowd pulling teams, it's Victoria Versus South Australia, how could anyone have looked at this being played anywhere other than at a ground with the greatest capacity

You know, for a moment there I thought you were being serious...

I can understand why it is at the MCG, what with it being North's true home ground, but they play some home games at the Dome, and with Carlton and Hawthorn on the same day, this was probably not the best decision. The Franklin/Fevola thing just makes it worse.

  13. Further speculation: -

    IMO Brown will stay.

    Rutten will stay.

    Cousins to Collingwood.

    Kerr to Essendon.

    White to Sydney.

Agree re: Brown Rutten and Cousins.

Don't know if Knights will take Kerr considering the problems they've had with Lovett.

The irony of White being Jolly's understudy is quite sad for Jeff.

  14. Remember Bates age, his just a baby, he played well @ CHF when the team was struggling early in the year but I believe he's feeling the pressure of expectation to perform at the top level all the time in a week forwardline also with a decimated midfield supply.

    slow & fumbly = confidance.

When the team is all back on the park & Brocky, Grimes, Morton, Petterd, Jones, Buckley, & CJ are delivering the pill forward, I guess the forwards will start to look better.

Yeah, I've probably been harsh on Bate, all things considered. I guess a truer measure will be to see if he improves next year.
