  1. They may have already made their mind up for the first few rounds, wayne. Port have Ryder/Lycett, Cats normally have two of Stanley/Smith/Esava/Fort, Bombers may also go with Bellchambers/Clarke/McKernan as well. With that in mind the FD may already to committed to using both come Round 1. Either way, they still have JLT2 to try it, and it seemed to work well in the scratch match.
  2. You're probably pretty close to the money there, Jim. Outside of getting through the game with no injuries, I think watching some of the fringe 22 and depth players perform, as well as seeing how Preuss goes up against Nankilands, will be the things to watch on Sunday arvo. The result is irrelevant (although I'm sure some will find a way to try and do the opposite), I think it's a good chance for a variety of players to stake their claim for a round 1 gig.
  3. They didn't elaborate and I'm as far from a nutritionist as you can get, so I won't assume too much, but as the article was all about getting skin folds down, it may relate to that.
  4. It's a bit of a pre-season puff piece, but I still like the fact that the boys aren't resting on their laurels and are looking for ways to improve even further. The article mentions that Jack Viney is doing a 16 hour fast, by only eating between 12pm-8pm, so it's also good to see our leaders doing similar things and setting the standards. Again, it's not much in terms of information, but it's always heartening to see the players pushing themselves further in the quest for a flag.
  5. He played a few games for the Dogs after leaving us.
  6. To be fair, we couldn't even hold THAT title at our lowest ebb...
  7. I noticed that - I took it straight from the article. It looks like they did it for the first few and then gave up and just stuck any old names in there.
  8. Here is the Tigers line up for the game as well - they have named a pretty strong side for the game, so it should be a good contest. B: Alex Rance, David Astbury, Dylan Grimes HB: Nick Vlastuin, Bachar Houli, Jayden Short C: Dion Prestia, Shane Edwards, Trent Cotchin HF: Daniel Rioli, Riley Collier-Dawkins, Jack Higgins F: Jack Riewoldt, Dustin Martin, Daniel Butler R: Toby Nankervis, Kane Lambert, Ivan Soldo IC (from): Oleg Markov, Nathan Broad, Jack Ross, Liam Baker, Jack Graham, Brandon Ellis, Maverick Weller, Noah Balta, Callum Moore, Connor Menadue, Fraser Turner, Callum Coleman-Jones

  10. You underrate Febes a little, Pennant. He was a terrific HBF in his day. Flash is a must in the side, though - preferably in a forward pocket, feasting on the crumbs that Neitz, Ox, Lyon etc get him.
  11. Hannan could be a handy addition, much like AVB, in the second half of the season. If you watch the highlights of the last 4-5 games of the season, which includes the finals, he was a key contributor in either scoring goals or being in a position to assist them. With our depth I'd say he gets plenty of time to get himself right and put himself in the frame to make an impact come July or August.
  12. I totally missed that, ding. Sorry. I thought it was a Robbie Flower reference, hence me going with 'Maxine' (which isn't her name, just went with a long version of 'Max'.) Our wires were well and truly crossed, but thank you for the well wishes!
  13. Brett Lovett? Adem Yze? Brad Green? Aaron Davey? Nathan Brown? How someone like Liam Jurrah gets a guernsey in this 'side' over some of the above is criminal. Not to mention others getting a gig who haven't even finished their careers yet.
  14. Thanks Moonie. It's actually 10 now. This one has to sleep in the attic but she'll live. ;)
  15. 1. Had another daughter. Well, my wife gave birth to it so technically I didn't have it, but I was there cheering her on with the membership number ready to go in my phone. 2. Took a break from here. 3. Watched as much NBA and EPL as humanly possible. Absolutely pumped for the footy to get rolling, though. Only 3 or so weeks to go (for the real stuff, anyway...)
  16. WERRIDEE when someone starts a best 22 thread:
  17. I might be old school with it, but turning up in suits or club gear should be the way to go. I think it shows far more respect for the club and the game as a whole than turning up as though Stevie Wonder dressed you in the morning.
  18. When you look at how we're viewed overall, and not in isolation, I think it's a fair reflection of our capability and the expectation on us as a club. With the list we have, and if we generally stay healthy, then we should be pushing for a flag. The fact that Malthouse has left us out of the eight is further proof of our credentials.
  19. They might extend the amount of players we have on the bench, plus they might extend a few of the breaks as well. No injuries and some good footy will do me in that weather. With their level of fitness it will be hard to gauge too much otherwise.
  20. Unless he is injured, Lewis will play in Round 1. It wouldn't surprise me if a few overtook him through the year, but to me, there is little doubt he gets named Round 1. He goes to half back, Fritsch to half forward, Joel Smith out of the side. Otherwise it's probably on the money, although for the first bounce of the year I'd like to see Viney in the guts and not on the bench.
  21. I'm always flabbergasted that people still do this sort of stuff. I mean, what in the world does it achieve? I agree that they should be named and shamed. Deleting the post almost gives them the anonymity they don't deserve.
  22. Jeff White was an AA ruckman at the peak of his powers when Jolly was around. In hindsight you might say it was a shocker of a decision, but Jolly was never going to be a first choice ruckman at Melbourne. Jolly knew he was capable, as did we and the Swans, so when they offered a first rounder we jumped on it. That's life. To me, Preuss will only play in specific games where we think having two ruckmen will work. Port in Round 1, for example, might be a game where we go with two forwards to combat the potential threat of Lycett and Ryder. In other games where a team might go for just one recognised ruck and a pinch hitter, we might attempt to do the same. I can't see us going with two rucks for the majority of the season.
